Art gets this, I think. Whatever else may be going on with his mind, one of its better qualities is that it is open. I say again, open. He's very reluctant to use words like "incontrovertible," even with modifiers like "seems."

I got that book for my dad for Christmas. I don't think he knows who Art Bell is, it's possible he does he is an avid Sci-Fi fan but that doesn't mean he would know about Art, also I think he's a skeptic. Anyways it was my plan to expose him to Art and see what he thinks.

I have an uncle who is seriously a pathological drunk. He was a nice guy and I loved him as a child but he could never keep a job and every 6 months or so would have to move in with my family to avoid homelessness- These job losses were never, ever, his fault. Always a story that placed him in the light of a poor victim and as a child I believed him.

Anyhow, there came a time when he got another job (sadly he was a highly skilled individual trained to be glazier (sp?)making really good money when he did work ) and my folks gave him money for a bus ticket and enough to  move out to Texas until he could start getting paid. My dad told my mom that in 6 months he will be calling for help because he lost another job and it again wasnt his fault (never was). Sure enough , that happened and my parents refused to help .

I was angry because I loved my uncle, believed everyone was always "picking on him" and thought my parents were being assholes.

Then I found out later he was bitching about my parents and my family while spinning a sob story to another relative-

Now, decades later I have watched this pattern continue without cease and he is an old man with nothing but "poor me" stories and excuses. Its sad.

Maybe he was telling the truth about losing some of the jobs through no fault of his own- maybe... However, at some point you just have to assume that its another lie, misdirection and refusal to accept responsibility and pass blame on others. His boss, my parents, society... At some point you have to look at the big picture.

I never saw Art as a truth teller but a story teller, so I'm not disappointed.  He's just good at what he does, so if he does more, I'd listen and enjoy.

What I am both angry and insulted is about is how he keeps playing his most faithful devotees who lap up every piece of shit he throws or doesn't throw at them and they come back for more.

I loved your show/s Art. I love you as a great in radio, a pioneer, an innovator and always will.

However that said, I am done with your melodramatic, narcissistic, self aggrandizing nonsense.

Despite all the archives of your programs that I have saved over 2 decades and all the recent MITD programs, it will be a very long time if EVER that I will ever listen to any of your programs again.

I cant' listen and enjoy someone who I strongly feel has played his best supporters and fans over and over and again.

Thank you though for all the wonderful rides, when the ride was great...when I believed in you and what I thought I felt what you were trying to do.

I think if you look more closely you'll notice that there's one side that's totally unified and furiously engaged in espousing stupid bullshit targeting the other that covers about 80% of every page, while everyone else is just dismissive of all the childish "outrage."  The only interesting thing I noticed today from "the howlers" is that malicious.martin and DankPenguiN both started pushing the "Art is a sociopath" thing simultaneously.  It's hard to believe that two people could independently reach the same absurd conclusion at the same time...
