Why isn't this place busier?

MV/Liberace!

In the last 31 days, 80 different members have taken the time to sign into their accounts on this forum.  That's an impressive 15.5% of our total registered users, and it doesn't count the number of unique people who read this site regularly but don't sign in.  So it begs the question: Why isn't this place busier?  I don't get it.  With that kind of member retention and awareness, it just seems like things should be far faster paced around here than they are.

I'm baffled.

Brother mine, this is a FAR preferable state of traffic and posting than existed in the previous incarnation!  I think you should feel a certain sense of pride and accomplishment that you have created such space where well thought out (for the most part), intelligent (ditto), and usually clever people and postings appear.  Definitely a case of quality over quantity and one of the things I like about being here.

Hey Michael, you're needed more than you know.  The numbers will take care of themselves.  By the way, you really hit your stride in your last radio broadcast.

well, then.  thank you, sir.  coming from you, that's something.

I've been spending most of my time recovering from hangovers during post finals week celebrations, and beating Batman: Arkham Asylum. Which, by the way, is great and the second one is coming soon. Now I'm hooked on Fable II until Alan Wake comes out for 360. Can't wait for that.

Although really, I haven't went to ANY forums much at all in the past year or so. One form I have over 9000 (yes) posts on...just up and quit going. I dunno why really.

And I haven't been listening to C2CAM much at all anymore either, so I kinda don't know at least 50% of the topics being discussed anymore. I basically just pop in to say hey to you guys and check to see when MV/Ev are doing Trainwreck broadcasts.

Only suggestion I can think of is maybe some ad campaigning for new blood is in order. Most members now are lurkers (or perhaps have nothing relevant to say). I wouldn't count on them ever being a huge source of conversational material.

Yeah I'm pretty stunned that more people haven't started posting here, especially with the focus being more on Coast in general. Honestly, I haven't been posting much myself simply because things have remained so slow for some time. I check in to see what's happening from time to time, but for a loooong stretch, there were zero to one posts every couple of weeks or so.
And like PirateKingAtomsk, I haven't been listening much to C2C for awhile. I have really become fed up with George's ill-informed and oft unintelligible interviewing style...and his goddamn infantile approach to all of it.
I have tried to tune in when a decent guest is gone, but I just can't take the same F***ing ridiculous questions and movie references over and over and over.........ughhhhhh.

And well,...even venting about it just pisses me off to no end too.

But then again, I'm not much of a forum poster anyways.

My guess is that most people who can't stand Noory are probably experiencing the same kind of boredom with Coast and are also too tired to bitch about him anymore...heh

It would be great to attract some posters here though.

one thing that i think would really help a lot is if the people who come here could link to this place on their own sites, or make mention of it on other sites they visit regularly.  i've even considered doing some paid advertising, but i need to focus on buying a house, first.  heh heh.

Hello everyone--anyone?  I'm here.  I'll talk your arm off given the opportunity.  All I need is someone to talk to and something to talk about.

What is everyone doing this long weekend?  Party or just family?  Camping? Going to the beach, going to a movie, BBQ-ing at home or at a park?  Staying home safe from all the crazies out there?

Since this is CoastGab, how about all listening to the show together and discussing it or hooting at Snoory when he does is dumb stuff.  I checked the schedule for tonight and of course it is Ian.  He is my least favorite host, but I will listen if I have a companion or two.

Dang, that is a hard question!  They both drive me nuts, so I guess it depends on the guests. Ian is smarter, but he hems and haws and stutters and stammers.  Once in awhile, with a good guest, The Snore will keep shut up and let the person talk.  He likes that so that he doesn't need to say anything and tax his little noggin.

But, in the interests of maybe having something going on here, I'd put up with either one of them if I had some company.  It might be fun, who knows?  At least we'd have each other.

Heh Heh back atcha!  Michael, my dear, you are the one looking for more traffic on your site.  I'm just looking for ways to help you out.  What is a forum for if it isn't for sharing, comisterating, bitching, ranting, laughing, and enjoying some like-minded companionship?

so puddin...
i recall about a year ago or so, you had a bit of a tiff with certain leftist shills on this site over your support of sarah palin.  i'm just wondering, do you feel as positive about her today as you did then?  i'm beginning to have second thoughts about her, starting with things like her endorsements of john mccain and carly fiorina.  i mean... i almost felt surprised when she did the right thing by endorsing rand paul in kentucky.  she seems to have turned her back on a number of viable tea party inspired candidacies out there, and i'm not particularly enthused by her presence any longer.  furthermore, i'm now feeling she's perhaps not what a rejuvenated conservatism movement should call its leader.

yup... this is the guy she is now stumping for.  wtf is going on?

My little "personal jury" is still out on Sarah.  After I watched her being interviewed a couple of times, I thought that she sounded like a beauty queen contestant explaining her "platform".  On the other hand, I would prefer her being in the Oval Office herself to what we ended up with!  I've been disappointed with her support of McCain, but maybe it is payback for his bringing her onto the nation scene?  I think that old monkey should retire, but then I look at that gooney guy, former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth, a former talk-radio host who is challenging McCain in the Aug. 24 Republican primary, I don't know what to think.  I've had high hopes for Scott Brown and/or Rand Paul, but neither have really measured up to my (wishful) standards yet.  I am concerned that the Tea Party will split the vote and leave us vulnerable to the Damocraps.  Yuck.  I'd rather talk about little green men, ghosts, and 2012!

Why isn't this place busier, MV? Maybe you just answered your own question. At least in my case, the reason why I haven't checked in for several weeks and never will again is that your site is so populated with rightwing wackos who would say something like this (you included). If I want this sort of fringe, teabagger nutcase crap, I'll look at the Fox "News" website. This sort of shit turns me off and no doubt any other intelligent, progressive like me who might be interested in a forum related to C2C and C2C-related topics.

Don't bother posting a reply telling me that I'm a communist, bolshevik, Nazi, socialist, free radical, unpatriotic, liberal leftist shill asshole because I won't see it. I'm deleting my link to this site. It bores and disgusts me, and I won't be back. If I cared enough, I'd figure out how to cancel my account, but I don't care, so feel free to do it for me.

I really hate to admit it, but nowadays I really do prefer George to Ian most of the time. I didn't used to, but Ian has just really been getting on my nerves. And as Puddintame put it, Noory at least shuts up at times.
Man, I really miss the days of actually 'wanting' to tune in to Coast to Coast.

LOL...I love angry posts. The searing fervor of this one left me cracking up this morning. I could almost see the teeth and fists clenched.

At any rate, people each have their political views etc etc, so I don't see why one should be upset at another's expression of them. It's not like this place is full of political overtones...
Angry and attacking posts remind me of that 'ban-happy' glp forum... 8)

Supernormal

I stopped listening to the show for a while. I tried to listen around Noory if the guests and/or subjects appealed to me. Then, the topics became increasingly boring. Now, I'm back in the game, ready and willing (able on a good night) to add my two cents. I seem to be flying solo, though. It would be great to be joined by somebody like the Professor. *That* would get the party started! I hope that we can recapture some of that fun soon.

fine.  go find a site where you can entirely surround yourself with people who think exactly as you do.  how exciting.  that's the easy and cowardly thing to do.  you are weak, uninteresting, and predictable.

and by the way... if you have to use the word "intelligent" in describing yourself, chances are you're not.

Damn - I've missed SOOOOO MUCH!

---------------------

I happen to list to port

I also listen to NPR

I'm still here

It is true that many of the political posts here tend to be on the starboard side.  I think the reality is we are in the midst of a massive cultural mind-shift similar to the one that took hold in the late 1960's and early 70's.  Pendulums swing.

It's also true that a number of the center-to-left-leaning posters who were knowledgeable and well spoken seem to have moved on.   That's life, it's also democracy.  This site is not 100% democratic, but to a large degree things are allowed to evolve as they will. evolution and democracy are both messy.  But, if you don't like how things are - you have to participate to change it.

Leave Coast Gab if you aren't having fun; no one is hog-tied here. But IMO, leaving here ONLY because you don' t like the currently prevalent political positions being addressed is a bit like refusing to vote because you you don't like the candidate the polls suggest is in the lead.

An unfortunate trend in the USA recently has been to stamp the nomeclature of "right wing" to such 'reactionary' concepts as constitutionalism, national (border) security, freedom of speech, and the rule of law.  It is amazing to see so many 'liberal' minded people live in a world of total reality-obfuscation.  Our current domestic and foreign policy is a perfect example of this naive mental obfuscation of all facts and realities in favor of hollow image and political incorrectness.

EvB

Hmmmm . . . Most of the liberal types I know are rather fond of our Constitution, freedom of speech in particular.

As for this:

" It is amazing to see so many 'liberal' minded people live in a world of   total reality-obfuscation."

Given how diverse our nation is, and more to the point, how much spin is added to any information from all sources, this is a comment anyone could make about anyone else.   Even if reliably accurate info is available, how many of us have time for original research?

While this could like like the seeds of a conspiracy theory, I think it's just how things are.  It's a BIG WORLD.

like the ones who support the fairness doctrine just because they don't ideologically own every facet of the broadcast industry?  leftists seem, from what i've experienced and observed in my life, only to support free speech if they agree with what's being said and the words aren't "offensive."  however, when it comes to human rights and freedom, etc... they do talk a good game.

Supernormal, I think you are on the right track.  I have proposed (on the "June shows" thread) that we have one central place where we all know to go for the current night's C2C fiasco.  I think it would be fun to commiserate and comment and praise or poke fun at that show while the mess is current and live.  I'd like to hear your corny jokes and laugh and cry with you if I could find you in a timely way.
