Steve Warner's Dark City

One night (from about 200 feet away) I saw this seemingly intelligent acting blue plasma looking softball sized orb slowly travel up along the siding of my uncle's house, pause, bobble a bit under a window, then quickly round the corner to his deck and vanish up into the tree tops. My mother & brother both saw whatever it was (alone & on separate occasions) out on his rural property. None of us knew each other had seen it until I told them my puzzling experience. Now I know what it was. Must have been a lighthouse HAHAHA!  ;D

OK maybe not a typical UFO story, but it was an unidentifiable flying object to me anyway. It seemed like it was scanning for something. Totally freaked me out and I was all IS THIS REAL LIFE?

I'm definitely going to read Leslie Kean's book  :)

I believe I was in college at BGSU when that was signed.  Beavercreek is probably the nicest of all areas mentioned but it isn't a city.  Suburb with Mall is more like it.  Riverside and Huber Heights are basically white ghettos.  Huber being a community of truck drivers and their quasi-feral children.   Huber used to be a nice little working class community but then the job base in the Dayton area collapsed.  And most everything went to shit.

The mayor and city manager of Beavercreek are going to be shocked they don't run a city.

Just to clarify, my original point wasn't that military bases were surrounded by nice, up-scale communities.  In fact, just the opposite is common, particularly around  posts where they are lots of junior enlisted.  You see a great number of bars, strip clubs, pawn shops, payday loan shops etc.  I was saying towns around military bases usually have better infrastrucure (roads, services, utilities etc) than other similar size towns because of the need to support the military base's mission.  Part of that is working with the base in cooperative agreements, part of it might be they get additional federal tax dollars to maintain the infrastructure around the base.

Didn't know Sir Dubb was a fellow native of the enchanted land of Southern Ohio.

Another great conversation between two people who get it. I had it on while doing some work, so I'll probably revisit it later for specifics.

"Mainstream" media taking the "nutball" approach toward logical people like Leslie just highlights the reason why we need more shows like Dark Weekend!

Two professionals at the top of their game, great job Steve.

As much as I respect Ms. Kean, I think she showed naivete with her talk of pushing for a DoD office for UFO investigation.  The US military has been in a "do more with less" mode for some time, our forces shrink but our committments do not.  Just this past week we saw even deeper proposed cuts.  We already know the DoD thinks UFO investigations are unwarranted (at least officially), and now she wants already thinly stretched assets to cover UFOs?  You think such an assignment would be seen as a career enhancer?  No.  So who would be assigned to such a billet?  Not the "best and brightest" to be sure.

In DoD speak, additional duties without additional assets is known as responsibilites "taken out of hide."  From personal experience, I can tell you when such situations come up, established organizations are forced to give up people.  Who do you think I give up?  It was a no-brainer, my least capable people were put up for reassignment. Same would happen here, the organization  would be stafffed with third teamers, in all probabilty led by a ROAD (retired on active duty) Lt Col (O-5/GS-13) biding time until retirement.  Is that what Ms Kean wants?  How would that be any different than Blue Book?  Oh, and by the way, I remember reading no Blue Book commander was promoted.

I'm not defending the system, I'm simply explaining how/why it works.
Thanks for pointing this out. It's something I've never considered all too thoroughly. I also think that if the governments do have any "really good stuff" in regards to the UFO phenomena, they are still withholding it. Give people a nibble to shut them up, but don't give them a bite or else they'll want the whole apple even more.

Another really good show!  I think I'm actually going to listen to this one a second time. Can't wait until you go to two hours.

Leslie Kean will be my guest tonight. Taking questions for the next couple of hours.

Will check this out tonight... I'm late to the party.

Another interesting and entertaining show Steve. Good to hear a sceptical approach for once regarding funny flying stuff. So many things to consider and what might lie beneath the phenomena. The Rendelsham forest story is a weird one for sure; Don't you just wish that smart phones had been in use back then?  ;D.. Or that someone had the presence of mind to have packed a small compact film camera?

YP says it all. Good show again.

Another great show, though I find UFOs a bit hard.  Like I said before, I'm not a big UFO or alien guy, never been my cup of tea.  I don't buy the extraterrestrial angle on them, I just have yet to be anywhere near convinced that we have been and are being visited by other intelligent beings. At one point I knew a lot of the historical narrative on UFOs and abductees and would see almost all new sightings/reports, and had become so desensitized to it by obvious bullshit that I kinda just dismissed it all as bunk.  So I'm having a hard time balancing my skepticism and personal feelings with these interesting guests and what I consider to be the most compelling UFO stories I've ever heard, evidence of extraterrestrials or not.  It's weird, but I definitely don't mind being exposed to it.  I still haven't gotten to watch Out of the Blue, been on vacation, but I'm going to try to watch it this week.

Yeah, Ratigan's question about the aliens bringing capital was REALLY off-base. Along with anything else he said. Props to Leslie for remaining professional in the face of such douchery.

show running late??? whats up?

Yeah.... What's up? I'm concerned ... Miss my dark weekend fix

George Drooly

C'mon guys, don't pressure Bateman -- he's probably just busy leaving chicken head platters in various parks.

BobGrau

His giant 80s phone battery must've run out.

I'm here, I'm here.. should have posted sooner. I was out of town for a few days & wasn't sure I'd be back in time to get a new one out, so Keith ran a longer show to cover.

So.....I guess it's too soon to be starting the "Bateman quits Dark Weekend" thread?  ;)
As always, I always look forward to the next show, it will be worth the wait!

A man's got to know his limitations. Great job with Leslie Kean, by the way.

Is this "podcast" still going? I thought it was winding down. Long live Rusty Humphries.

I endorse all of these topics.

How about a show on Nigerian Email Scams. Possibly get in touch with someone from this site: http://www.419eater.com/

I love stories about these scams especially the stories about the scammers being scammed.

All good ideas.  May I add "Amateur Astronomy for Atheists" as another suggested topic.  There is a guy in Conn who would be a great guest for this program.

Art heists finally?  Really really been looking forward to that, and more non paranormal stuff in general.
