Radio and Podcasts / No show tonight, Tues, 10/22
October 22, 2013, 02:52:19 PM
From Art's FB, "There will not be a show tonight, my back locked up and I hit the floor like a sack of wet cement. I am now drifting into the World of narcotic fuzz and ice. There will be some kind of replay."  :(

Paranormal - Conspiracy - UFOs - Etc. / Graham Hancock
October 21, 2013, 11:41:41 AM
According to his FB, he'll be on DM on 11/4.  I'm really looking forward to that.  He was one of my favorite guests when Art ran C2C.

"I will also be Art Bell's guest on his new radio show (Art Bell's Dark Matter) on 4 November and with Joe Rogan on the Joe Rogan experience on 13 November."

Random Topics / Received an Arbitron survey

I was hoping it would ask which radio shows I listen and don't listen to and why.  It only asked what my favorite radio show or channel was.  Needless to say, I did not say C2C was my favorite.  ::)   There was a time when I would have said it was my favorite, but those days are long gone.

Random Topics / Anyone cut the cable?
January 18, 2013, 02:11:39 PM
I've done it before for an extended period, and I'm thinking of doing it again as my cable bill is due to rise by another $30 this month.  >:(   I don't watch a lot of TV.  I try to avoid crap like Honey Boo Boo and the rest of the garbage on the "Learning Channel."  I watch a little Canadian programming on CBC, a few shows on network TV, a few shows on MeTV, vintage Doctor Who, and that's about it.  Nine times out of ten, I'm watching something that I don't even need cable TV for.

I already have Netflix streaming, Amazon Prime streaming, and I can add Hulu Plus for a few bucks a month.

Anyone else make due with over-the-air channels?

Random Topics / Strange grave marker
November 25, 2012, 10:56:09 PM
Awhile back, I biked into an old state psychiatric hospital's grounds.  They have a cemetery for the residents.  I was walking through, and I saw this grave marker.  I've never seen one with three dates on it before.  Does anyone know what it signifies?  Is the middle date perhaps when she was "born again" religiously?  I just thought it was odd looking.

Random Topics / Losing a pet
October 16, 2012, 10:36:35 AM
I'm at the point where I have to start planning to have my dog put to sleep.  He's going steadily downhill.  He's a "special needs" dog as it is, but I can tell he's no longer happy.  He was always happy, no matter how bad off he was.  His back legs are paralyzed, so he has a little cart, and he would run around and be so happy to go in the yard or the beach.  I would have to run after him on the beach.

He had 4 grand mal seizures Saturday night.  He has advanced diabetes and is on insulin.  When his blood sugar rises too high, he has seizures.  I was able to get him stabilized with extra insulin and some phenobarbital, but he's not bouncing back this time.

It's really hard.  He's my boy.  Most people have that one dog or cat they really connect with some time in their lives, and he is mine.  We just have to look at each other to know what we're thinking.  He's such a character.  He's a little pug.  He was the "spokesdog" for the local animal park where we lived before we moved here.

The last time I had to take one of my pugs in to have him put to sleep, it was horrible.  It took over an hour for him to go and they had to keep upping his dose.  I had nightmares afterward.  It was awful.  I found a local vet that can come to your home and do it there.   I think that's what I'm going to do.  I don't want him to go in some clinical setting.  I really hate this.   :'(

Random Topics / Anyone have vintage radios?
August 28, 2012, 11:53:33 AM
Since we're all into radio, I was wondering if anyone else is into vintage radios?

With the exception of the internet, I get all my radio through vintage tube radios around my house.  My oldest is a 1949, and the newest is approx. late '60s.

My three main radios are:

1949 Sears Silvertone.  This is used daily in my kitchen.

This one, I'm not positive on the year.  I'm guessing late '60s.  It's the "newest" of the bunch.  This is down in the family room.

My all-time favorite radio is my '61 Blaupunkt Arkansas console.  It's AM/FM/shortwave, etc.  It really covers the world.  And it has a built-in bar.  Doesn't get much better than this, in my opinion.  There's also a turntable tucked in under the station tuning area.

Technology / Photo storage
August 16, 2012, 02:55:10 PM
I'm looking for photo storage ideas.  I used to use an external Seagate drive, but it went tits up, and I lost over 10,000 photos.  Thankfully, I had backed up most of my favorites to Photobucket before the crash.  I take several thousand photos per month, so I need a fairly large amount of storage.

Any ideas?
