Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

Coz

The following will seem weird. However....

There are some things you always remember in your life.

This sad day.... is one of them for me.

Although rabid fanboism is a bit out of my personality range... the closest I get to it is Art Bell. It's a radio show. Just a radio show. But Art has been such a persistent presence in my life for over 20 years. That is sad to me.

I've listened to him essentially all my adult life.

So goodbye Art. I've said some pretty rough things in this situation, and I'll stand by them because... that's how I feel.

But... best wishes on your life and family. And if I hear you on the bands, I'll say hi.

Be well. I'm spinning the dial over to shortwave. Reluctantly... and sadly.

Good night.

I haven't had time to read the 100 pages that have developed here overnight, so please excuse me if everyone except me understands the "I've lost my base" reason for Art's sudden departure.  I'm glad to see I'm not the only one, as evidenced by Horror Retro above, so I'll just go ahead and ask:

WHAT THE HELL IS ART TALKING ABOUT THAT HE'S LOST HIS BASE??   :-\

All his base are belong to us.

Understand now?

Art believes that he has lost all of his listeners because they can't stream Sirius. Which is BS, Art lost his base because he still is acting like a child like always. Meaning when Art doesn't get 100% of his way, he goes home.

Thank you. I am embaressed because I should have known. I swear I have heard this live on radio quite a while ago. I love the animation to the Ricky Gervais show though!

The replay of the podcast started and then died. Since I didn't hear most of the show, it would be nice to hear it again in its entirety.
And I liked the General's music too.
Thanks MV !!!

In all fairness to Noory, I once got a wicked brainfreeze from some Ben and Jerry's once. I got frost bite on the roof of my mouth and couldn't work at my lame call center job the next day. Thank god tommy was there to drive me to the ambalamps.

Desmond

I really enjoyed hearing MV and Curtis hosting the show.  It was great hearing several of you and the calls were good.  Having George call in and be a gentleman after all the shit he takes on here, he must have a sense of humor about it.  This whole thing is so surreal and strange, hard to believe the developments of the past few days.  Anyway, great job on the podcast, MV, you really do a good job hosting a show and it was quite entertaining.

I been listening to him since Halloween night 1994. I stand by very little of what I have said in this forum the last couple days. I however do not apologize because I find trolling eases the pain.

And he shows up for work regularly, none of these 2 year breaks between shows that other hosts are known for.

I'm so glad I didn't have a mouthful of tunafish when I read the above.
BIG LOL !

I'm putting this out in the universe, because, well fuck it at this point.

Art will be back on next week.

I'm just stating that now.

And be honest like MV said on the podcast, the fact is we are all upset because Art is not on the air.

Dave noorie still sucks
Who that has been here more than a minute can ever forget the night that Art personally called out Dave on this same bullshit Dave spouted tonight?   Right here on BellGab, where Dave Noorie and Art were logged in at the same time and Dave had no answer for this, other than to whimper and pee on the carpet like a terrified chihuahua?

Hello all, I have NO email from George, at least nothing today and nothing that relates to Oates at all.
There are several things I do not understand. I said I no longer hold a grudge with respect to Oates and
that is true, that kind of thing will make you sick but I will NEVER forget or forgive. Many of you remember,
or if not, know what was said now as does George, he Twitted that he plans to have him on again, really?
I thought that there was possibly a chance that George did not know the history, I no longer believe that.
At this point it no longer matters, it's done. I think coincidence occurs all the time, George I think has a
contrary view, to be sure this was a monster one. I did ban Oates for life. If George does not respect that
after reading what Oates said about me then there is nothing left for me to say about George.

Quote from: Art Bell on September 10, 2013, 03:26:29 AM
More to clear up, then to bed.

1. George got a Atty for me? First I had heard of that. Karen Jackson is the one who got it done
back here in Pahrump through a congressman almost 3 Years ago.

2. I indeed can guess who wrote that awful letter (Not George).

3. I still do not have that email, please feel free to resend.

4. Thank you for understanding my loss of Ramona

5. When somebody calls you a Child Molester and claims you were arrested for Porno, you do not forget and you do not forgive, that I
truly hope you never have to find out for yourself.

Look, this thing is over because it is a done deal, I had not thought for Years of any of this until Thursday, as of now I would like
to let it slide into history again. It was a shock but I will deal with it. Public figures have to develop thick skin, however I am older
now and I think mine is thinning a bit. night all....

Stay klassy, Dave.

Gabcast peaked at 150 listeners, and was at 130 at the end. This needs to be a regular radio show!

Thank you for posting that link, Wrath.

I'd listen to the first show if he came back on, but not after that. Its not even something I'm consciously deciding --- I just don't like him anymore. It's not an institutional hatred, but its visceral. I can't even listen to my old shows of him, and I have gigs of those. Oh well.

Sorry about that, but the line almost made me do a classic spit take.
I broke up.
It was cool to hear you and so many Gabbers call up and talk about how they felt.

No disrespect intended, Coaster, but that's how I still see it, regardless of flaky Art.

HaveAccess

I didnt think Sirius would buy it.
And they didnt.

Art is not so much an engineer but an artist.
And so I think it is true the deficiencies in the Sirius player was a factor.

Art returned because he loves engaged conversation and radio.
Art returned because he knew he could best those who muzzled him for 10 long years and prevented him from doing what he loves...
Actually a jail sentence. For a person who had done no wrong.

So Sirius calls him to offer him artistic license over his product. And he accepts.
As the few shows progress, it dawns on him that while people may listen to him while mobile, they do not call.
And nether should they for safety reasons.
Only a minority calls from internet devices. And those devices receive buggy transmissions.
Recall the Art Bell Show is as much about the Caller as the Interviewed.
Further the fee that Sirius charges is a minimum three times that of Premrat.
Yet what messages he receives convinces him he is a global radio personality.
Yet Sirius primarily services North America.

To break free of the limited Sirius model, he creates a new model.
A satellite / internet hybrid  which can more effectively challenge conventional radio broadcasting.
But Sirius votes a veto. Which implies Art will perpetually be nothing more than a niche programmer in the night.
And never be able to challenge Premrats dominance.

So Art quits.

He quits to build his own free streaming service.
To sell his own advertising.
To sell his own archived shows for a nominal fee.
To license his product to AM/FM radio stations.
To license his product to Sirius itself.
To more effectively compete against Premrats  conventional radio distribution.
And simply to crush them.

At least I hope.

Seems more like that question would be his last

I think he's jumping on the opportunity to try and suck up & don't think he's a nice guy at all. Just stopped by to drop a load of bullshit. He has balls though.

Nicely said. I'm guessing at least some of the others sort of feel that way too.

I suspect there might be something we haven't thought of that's the main reason behind Art's quitting. It might even be something we'll feel stupid about giving him grief over.
