David Prowse was the guy in the Darth Vader suit in Star Wars.  He spoke all of Vader's lines, and didn't know that he was going to be dubbed over by James Earl Jones until he saw the screening of the movie.

Speaking of Star Wars, last year it was dubbed in Navajo, in an effort to help preserve the language.

James Joyce's entire novel Ulysses takes place over the course of a single day:  June 16, 1904.  But why did he pick that day?  It was the day of his first date with his future wife, Nora.

I had a date like that once.... and she even paid for the hotel room.... good times...

Despite this Ulysses is still a dreadful book

And for a nice little fact/video combo... Robert "Addicted to Love" Palmer once recorded an electro track with lyrics in Urdu

I know how you feel but I've actually finally come around to it with the help of a good podcast I found.  And I've actually made it about midway through Chapter 3 which has got me feeling slightly optimistic I might finish it one day.

Btw, while I'm at it, another NLF about Joyce.  The physics term "quark" came from a line in Finnegans Wake.

Talk about performance anxiety.

In France in the 1500s women could charge their husbands with impotence. He would have to become erect and prove that he could ejaculate in a courtroom. If he failed he could demand a trial by congress and attempt to have sex with his wife in front of experts.

I shit you not.

Ejaculating in a courtroom is at the top of my bucket list.   8)

And I wonder how a person got to be one of those "experts" back then.  Sounds like nice work if you can get it!

Number of people killed by fresh water snails annually - 10,000

Indries Shah wrote a book called, "The Book of the Book". It was 16 pages long. The physical book is 200 pages.

To get a copyright, his publisher had to submit a copy to the British Museum. The British Museum returned it with a note saying, "this is not a book at all".

He's criticized for not mentiong "God" or Islam. That's exactly what I like. If I have to believe something, then I'm not interested.

edit: To be fair to people who think Sufism isn't possible without being a Muslim, the Japanese didn't think westerners could get Zen.
Then they found out there was good money in being a Zen master.

Even if the rest of the book is too dense then I'd recommend the highly allegorical story "The Islanders"

Um, let's see..
52! = 10^67
13.8(10^9) * 365 * 24 * 3600 = 10^17

Yep, checks out.
