And I am proud to rub elbows with you. We disagree strongly on political issues. Yet, because we both approach most of our interactions as adult, we get along pretty well. Not to get off on yet another tangent, but, the military is a socialist program. It is an enormous jobs program.

I am much more proud of the work ethic I took with me, into the military. Never, had I or have I ever seen the amount of incompetence and disrespect for work as I did when I was in the military.

Due to saving some asshole's life I was injured in a small fiery explosion. I got to witness both great and pathetic health care served to active duty soldiers. It still knots my stomach.

Accomplishments that I am prouder of are my family, putting my wife through a master's program. And helping both my children get through college. I am quite proud of the community work I have been doing for more than three decades. I am also quite proud of my travels through out this country and central and south America. But yadda yadda, what I did in the military was part of a group. Rarely a well organized group. for the most part I did what I was told, which by most of those around me was enough to make me "shine."

What I find interesting is how so many that are in or have been in the military are quick to point out how they protected our way of life. I have yet to see that. Believe what you want, but if defending our way of life is the bench mark then it seems allowing others to believe differently should be something to celebrate rather than condemn.

Socialism, or rather a democratic socialism is a cornerstone for the safekeeping of our citizens, just as much as serving in the military.
