omg strawberry-free neopolitan!
Isn't that great?  It only took about 100 years for them to figure out that no kid* likes the horrible strawberry band in Neopolitan.

I would buy this product.

*yeah, well, I and Zeebo and presumably Cam didn't like it.  I'm sure there were others.

+1.  The strawberry just messes up the vanilla and chocolate.  These days?  Give me this, with chocolate syrup.

The low sugar stuff actually tastes better to me than the regular.

I had so much artificial flavors growing up that when I actually tasted a real, fresh strawberry I thought there was something wrong with it.

I like casseroles like that.  Scalloped oysters are one of my favorite holiday casseroles.

It tastes even better than it looks, Duke! I'll be happy to share the recipe, so remind me if I forget. Cheers!

My dad would often end up eating the lion's share of the Neopolitan strawberry that we left behind.  If we were desperate for ice cream, we would revisit those "strawberry fields."

As children, we called it "Napoleon" ice cream.

I continued referring to it as such for an embarrassingly long time.  Hehe.

Julekake.  To have tomorrow morning with gjetost and coffee.

With saffron and cardamom, raisins and other fruit.  It's supposed to have candied citron but you can't find it this time of year, so I dice dried papayas and pineapple and cook them in booze with spices.

It has been suggested that Benjamin Franlin customarily brought a large sack of those whenever he attended a Hellfire Club function, and passed them out the next morning to ensure that the strumpets who survived the evening would have something to nibble on while they staggered back to their squalid abodes.

Haha alas my good fellow, there is nary a strumpet in sight.

That's a good thing given my present condition and time zone, K. Cheers!

Cheers to you, sir!  May the morning be gentle to you.

Here are some casts ("avstøpning") of old julekaker, some from a hundred years ago.  I have a long ways to go.  The sow with piglets is particularly fetching:

Of course, there's a number of recipes on the web but mine is fairly simple.  About a pint of oysters,  cover liberally with crushed saltines, add half and half, mixed with seasonings of choice (salt, pepper, etc), until it's to the top level of crushed saltines.  I then spray some good olive olive oil on top, so it'll be nice and crispy.  Bake at about 325 for 20-30 minutes, just keep an eye on it.  When it's browned on top, it's ready.  If you like oyster stew and oyster dressing, you'll like this.

It's hard to go wrong with fried rice.  I like the way the Thais make it, fish sauce instead of soy, chilis, and a little lime juice.

Crab, duck & pineapple, or chicken...

Way to go PB.  You post with that picture, get me thinking about Thai fried rice, then pad thai, just as Mrs Duke tells me the Mrs Paul's fish sticks are ready for lunch. Bleech.

Turns out the Central American tamales are different from the Mexican tamales we normally see.  Each area makes theirs a little differently, they're often bigger and may include potato, peppers, tomatoes, beans, green olives, capers, fresh herbs..

I'm with you on this.  Another regional variance I prefer is the Japanese take on curry rice, which is not insanely spicy and includes big chunks of succulent carrots and soul-warming potatoes.

Don't know about that, but this is a thing:
"Poutine"

a Canadian dish, originating in the province of Québec, made with French fries and cheese curds topped with gravy.

I was afraid to hazard a pronounciation.  Any ideas?
