Are there any ceviche lovers here? Any preferences? The best I've had was in little sodas on the Guanacaste coast in Costa Rica. Every place had its own recipe and personalized presentation, and I can't imagine ever getting tired of eating it.

Yes, I love it as long as it has lots of fresh fishes and is very citrusy. The last time I had it though, I hated it. Was full of big chunks of olives and other powerful vegetable type foods. I like olives but did not go with all the cilantro and citruses at all. Had too much salt too.

Grilled fish tacos with a squeeze of lime is always delicious.

Ah!  The hallowed lime.  No vile yellow or orange citrus.  Make mine green

Papaya no lime?  Don't waste my time.

That sounds hideous!

Hahaha I must have checked that book out more than any other at the library when I was a kid.  But my allegiance has shifted from the humble cake to the maple cruller:

One of my favorites as a kid! I still have my copy and still enjoy reading it occasionally.

One look at the cover art and there was no way in the world that I was not going to read that book.  It had everything going for it: machinery and donuts.  heh

Our library copy was well worn.

When we got our first Krispy Kreme out here maybe 10 years ago, the machinery immediately brought Homer Price to mind -- it really does work that way.  But I think Homer's donuts were a little more substantial to survive tumbling into the bin like that.

Best mussels I've had were in Holland but you also can find them on the menu in Belgium in season (months with "R".) And that gives you the opportunity to say "Mussels from Brussels" (pretentious waiters don't get the joke/reference, by the way. Or pretend not to do so.) I think they are done very simply, I think just steamed or boiled in some white wine, butter, and garlic and that's it- I think, not really sure but they are damn good. And you can figure out a way to eat by using the discarded shell as sorta "chop-sticks" to get the next mussel out. (I would avoid that technique in a nice restaurant but ok if one on the beach or at home. At least to me.)

Haha I remember my first attempt at them with a little fork in a nice restaurant on Penn Cove.  The pesky things were still attached to the shell and my efforts to unstick them shot one of the poor creatures through the air like a rubber band.  We never did find it.

Sure wish I had one with my coffee.  Wouldn't even snub a plain, unglazed cake.

I first thought it was Hitchcock doing his obligatory cameo, but it's not nearly big enough.

I think some others may have beat you to it.

But, granted, it's not quite 100% grease.

At one point, I was drawing a likeness of the groups' symbol (three question marks) with chalk on the sidewalks in my neighborhood; not unlike a vintage hobo leaving secret signals to hobo brethren.  The sad thing is that I was playing by myself; so who the hell was I signaling?

When I was about nine, somebody wrote "Nanker Phelge" on a sidewalk in my neighborhood. I figured they were dirty words, but it puzzled the hell out of me because I'd never heard anyone use them. I didn't solve the mystery for many years, and have been puzzled ever since wondering what it was about the words that compelled the person to commemorate them in chalk.

The Mulligan (hobo) Stew recipe, basically whatever you got to put in the pot, reminds me of the inventive concoctions guys make from MREs. Heard lots of stories, but the only one I ever tried was "Ranger Pudding".  Apparently there are many variations on how to make it, but what I tried was a mix of cocoa powder, instant coffee, sugar, non dairy creamer, and peanut butter.  I wouldn't call what I tried particularly tasty, but in the field it's a great way to get an energy boost from the sugar and caffeine, as well as bit of protein from the peanut butter
