Then again, why would anyone parade a live missile loaded with powerful explosives passed of a massive and vulnerable crowd of dignitaries, military officials and cheering citizens? Just sayin'.

Again, that would make sense (to use dummies). But on a day like today though who knows. They don't have enough of those dedicated TAV transport vehicles (I don't think) to waste on dummies if the shit hit the fan this weekend. Would take lot of time to swap back to live munitions and get them moved into position. The civilians there are so war-prepped they would probably cheer if the trucks stopped mid-square raised swung and started launching right then and there. Just kidding really but would make a good movie maybe. Hidden in plain sight -- while the Yanks were hitting our (empty) hardened bunkers, all the best stuff was out on the parade route!  ;-)

Strange how some countries parade all their weaponry in public along with their soldiers. As far as I can tell, mostly it's oppressive regimes that do this sort of thing...like North Korea, Russia. I don't know...has the US ever done this sort of thing? Seems a bit obnoxious, if they have. I suppose it is meant to be threatening and impressive.

Do you mean like this?

It was a MiG 23 Foxbat. And the tubes were laughed at until it was pointed out they're impervious to EMP. But that aside, although the SU boasted of its phenominal climb rate, top speed and service ceiling (AFIK) of 100000 feet, what they missed out was doing that wrecked the turbines and they had to be replaced!

Mechanical linkages aren't obsolete either, the issue is making sure with large aircraft the control surfaces are operated with hydraulics. Fly by wire isn't a solution looking for a problem, it just makes things simpler for installation and servicing.

Incidentally while on hi tech. The new F35 has a projected maximum flight hour service life of only 5000 hours. Which takes them up to about 2035. Gulp.

I should have used the term electro mechanical linkages.  I was thinking some old style servo motors were found but I am by no means competent to talk on the subject.  I do remember that the Russians went with enormously powerful engines to overcome their lack of light weight alloys and suffered a lot of catastrophic engine failures.

Yep. You might also remember the ejection from (I think) a Mig 29 at an air display when the plane crashed? Everyone (including the pilot who lit a ciggie when he got out of the chute) was impressed. The parachute opened at an incredibly low altitude but safely. So impressed were some, that the seat was considered for fitment to (I think) the F22. However after evaluation, they found it was far heavier and more complex than first thought and not suitable.

What aplomb.  I think the first thing I would have done after getting out of chute would be to find a change of trou.

That is freakin' adorable. Who knew the yellow stripes recruited so young? Course', it is a generational thing, or so I have heard.

Just need a herd of love struck moose, some bannock and free maple syrup and you got yourself a parade!

Hit Squad!

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff tweeted a bit of their own "parade" display from Kadena Air Base in Japan.

"Check out this awesome display of combat #Airpower from Kadena AB, Japan! Fight's on!"

The N.K. parades, in particular, just go to show how wacked-out that place has become.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/north-korea-parades-new-prototype-long-range-missiles-amid-nuclear-n746921

"The parade, an elaborate display of the state's immense power, involves tens of thousands of participants, from goose-stepping soldiers to crowds of civilians who have spent weeks perfecting their ability to wave plastic flowers in unison."

Got to get those plastic flowers just right.  Don't want to piss off nut case Kim.

Time for another round of executions.  It must be fun to be a  rocket scientist in that lovely country.

Well, for a short time they might get to eat some leaves instead of just boiled tree bark- or worse. It aint all bad, considering, the majority people there.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous and violence is not the answer (excepting in certain circumstances and then better done at a distance by more effective means, but don't go looking for a fight, but I'm getting older) for silly politically-correct stuff or most politics where all the leaders really don't care about you, unless you cut a big check. But in the defense: how could this "alt-right," or whatever tell the anarchist/communist, or whatever their "deal" is, tell she was a she- considering her "cultural appropriation" of dreadlocks (she is a racist due to that per se) and her black garb and aggressive actions? And, considering equality of genders, why is it worse to hit a woman than a man, for man (or anyone of any gender or gender-questioning or bending?) (Kidding, just using the PC crowd's arguments.)

Figures. Quality person indeed, I still can't get over her "cultural appropriation" and why her fellow leftists accept that; totally racist.  ;)  The whole thing is still nuts to me, though. If both of some of these fringes groups would awake they would be "settling scores" in the Muslim and illegal alien enclaves instead of fighting each other. (Legal Statement: Not that I advocate that- except possibly in Europe where the football hooligans etc might be the last stand since cops and politicians are accepting the invasion. Again, did not call for any violence or crimes but pure political speculation and commentary.)

There was a time when I wouldn't think of hitting a female.  However, in the current era of gender equality and under the same circumstances, If a member of the fair sex grabbed me by my shirt collar I cannot be sure that I wouldn't knock her into the next zip code.   Assault is assault and everyone has a right to defend themselves.

Last time Kim used anti-aircraft guns as a means of execution.  What will he use next?  Maybe he'll use heavy artilliary.
