I'm still waiting for the apology.

And you'll  wait and wait and wait.  Get off your high horse.

I could similarly ask you to apologize for posting so many dishonest Republican talking points.

I try to not use talking points, but the issue is whether the talking points are dishonest, which every Republican talking point you've posted in this thread has been.

So, Robert Byrd was wrong to be a member of the KKK (which he renounced) but slavery was (just) 'one flaw.'

Are you unhappy the South lost the "War Between the States"?

No.  The past is the past.  I don't dwell on it.  I love Lincoln but I also liked the state's rights position which has been unjustly soiled due to its past affiliation with slavery. What I said is that it is not right to focus on any individual based on one flaw of the person.  We all have flaws including you, 136.  I know that may surprise you. As for my judgement of Byrd, yes I disliked the man but not just because he was a member of the KKK.  I'm not going to give you a list of his faults though as you will undoubtedly disagree with me.

Hey, I admitted I was wrong about King.  I fessed up.  You won't do the same thing when you said  "Byrd's KKK affiliation(half truth)."  And I quote.

Sorry, my good man.   I think we were talking about the Muslim mayor of London but I can't be sure.  ??? :P

I have no bone to pick with that guy myself.  Best of luck to him as long as his intentions are honorable.

Oh, don't wait on me making derogatory comments about London; I'll be the first to pile in. I fail to see why the Americans (or indeed anyone from overseas) chooses to visit London as a destination. Sure it's convenient to get an ongoing transfer flight to elsewhere, but of itself? What a fucking dive. I have quite literally swum in runny cow shit that was more appealing than London*.

*That bit might not be strictly accurate.

Why did Shillary get such shitty trolls? What an incredible waste of money.

Exactly...the race card has already been played against the Reps, now I'm waiting for the following accusations:

1. Misogyny
2. Homophobia
3. Anti Poor/Greedy
4. War mongers
5. Gun toting baby killers
6. fill in the blank Dem talking point

Despite our protestations against the monarchy, most Americans of European descent have a soft spot for Great Britain.  We want to see where our ancestors lived.

Mrs. Who and I spent time in Yorkshire and the Lake District.  Magnificent scenery.  We went other places but those were our favorites.

You're asking a Yorkshireman where you should visit? Seriously? Get a flight to Manchester or London Heathrow or Gatwick. Then (if Manchester) hire a car (if you're brave) and drive the M60/ M62/M1 or A1M (Motorways, our version of your freeways), and head for York. (or get a train), and use that as your base to explore. If from London, get a connection to Manchester. Head for the Yorkshire Dales, Whitby (east coast) where Captain Cook set sail to find Australia; North Yorkshire Moors. Or go south into North Derbyshire and explore the Peak District national park.

Oh, nice...thanks!

QuoteSpeaking Wednesday to CNN, London mayor Sadiq Khan warned American voters that they faced a decision "of hope over fear, unity over division."

"A choice of somebody who is trying to divide, not just your communities in America but who is trying to divide America from the rest of the world. And I think that, you know, that's not the America that I know and love."

Sadiq Khan said he would never visit America again even if Trump allowed him an exception.

...So does this guy actually do anything for London or is his whole thing white people and Donald Trump? This idiot doesn't realize we've already had eight years of this nonsense and his rhetoric doesn't work anymore. You folks in the UK and Canada being almost a decade behind the US in most things are just getting to enjoy this type of politics.

I've demonstrated I have no problem admitting mistakes as in not pointing out Ronald Reagan's personal opposition to racism.

Mentioning that he had an affiliation to the KKK without mentioning it that he quit the KKK and renounced that association is, in my opinion, a half truth.   The definition of the truth is 'the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

You did not tell the WHOLE truth.  You wrote you figured everybody already knew that.  But, to write that he became the Majority Leader without mentioning that he renounced his former association gives a completely different impression than it would otherwise.

Anyway, this thread has moved on from here, and you're not going to get an apology, so let's just let it go.

I would avoid Bradford, although there's a good TV and media museum there. If railways are an interest, York has a huge museum. Leeds, okay for shopping, avoid for anything else. Harrogate, posh, and expensive. Knaresborough is quite picturesque. Remember the pronunciation isn't burroow. It's Bur'a. Yorkshire isn't York-shy-er..It's simply Yorksher. Weather plays it's part of course and we don't have a climate, just weather. And predicting it is impossible, many places have a micro climate.

Thanks, Yorkie...I'm saving these suggestions BTW...it will be my 8 year old daughter and I...we love beautiful scenery and the outdoors, history, architecture, excellent cafes and restaurants, museums, theater/plays...sounds like all the places you've suggested have that in spades!

You're also too stupid to know what stupid is.

So you changed your mind yet again that I was indeed telling a half-truth.  Whatever.

Do you know how stupid it is to say that Byrd was the majority leader in a socialist Democratic Party while he was with the Klan?  Of course he wasn't and the fact that I have to say this is idiotic.  Go suck on a popsicle.  You know you want to.  LOL.

I never said you weren't telling a half truth.  I'm not sure what the point of your original post was then.  I thought it was to show that the Democratic Party was, at some time, racist.

Of course, when the southern Congress people who opposed the Civil Rights Act were in the Democratic Party the Northern Democrats made an unholy alliance with those racists. There was and likely still is significant racism in the North as well, but every Democrat in the United States Senate who voted against the Civil Rights Act was a southerner (I've never seen which members of the House voted which way).  There was never institutional racism in the North as there was in the South but instead it was practiced through segregated cities due to 'white flight.'  So, I'm sure there are some still racist people in the North who vote Democratic and there may even be some racist Democratic member of Congress, though I'm not aware of any.

Anyway, Robert Byrd was first voted into the Democratic leadership in 1967, then become Majority Whip in 1971 before being elected Majority Leader in 1977.  So, you're acknowledging that the Democratic Party as a whole turned its back on racism by no later than 1977.  Good, we agree.
