For some, the Live At Massey Hall album is recommended..

His Autistic son went to my high school. Ben was a senior when I was freshman. I knew his Dad was famous but didn't know he was until Ben had graduated (as a nice gesture from the school) and Neil made a sizable donation to the school...

He's hosted an annual charitable concert at Shoreline near San Francisco, going on 30 years now.  It's an all acoustic show and they always get some pretty big names to play it, all proceeds going to the school.   I think they put out CDs of it.

Here's another one from Neil Young's 45 years of writing, recording,

and performing music.

Beautiful song.

Ok finally some talent to be recognized. ;D

Klaus Nomi was a huge talent.  Once in a lifetime talent.  The only problem is that the only way he could ever exploit his talents was through his avant garde persona that was just completely lost on people.  But if he was going to exist at any time in the last 100 years, the late 70's in NYC was the perfect environment for it.

Indeed, about the few bumper music Rush plays that I like. His voice was amazing and apparently not classically trained or schooled. But what a bizarre scene it must have been there, then. Wow.

I don't know about the General's scenario.  Sure Neil has written a lot of junk but he has also written some gems like Harvest Moon, Keep on Rockin' In the Free World, Heart of Gold, Mr. Soul, Cinnamon Girl,  My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue).  I don't see people making fun of him after hearing one of those songs.

I wish Bruce Springteen was filling in for Neil Young at the local city-park free concert that was coming up.

At least then I could hear a true Commie extol the virtues of his favored candidate instead of insipid tripe from Socialists to the tune of:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPhWR4d3FJQ

Freaking Socialists.  I'd vote for Bernie if only "The Boss" would endorse him at one of these 'poor-me-I-can't-sell-tickets-to-my-show-so-I-give-them-away-on-public-radio-to-juice-the-market-did-I-mention-I-hate-capitalism-OH-I-will-be-sure-to-do-that-onstage-for-three/quarters-of-my-show-instead-of-performing' because he loves to play "The Hill."

Or at least give free concerts at/&/or before the Hill...

Not Sure.

"The Boss" and Neil.  Kneel before the boss of Captain and Tenille.  Toff brothers.  (I like toffee btw...)

That reminds me - I've never really liked Springsteen.   He has a few good tunes, but he's mostly just boring,  Maybe there's a bit too much 'Jersey' in him.

My question is how and why this very ordinary talent got to be nicknamed 'The Boss'?  The boss of what?

'Allo! We are still with you yet.

I would believe anything about David Crosby. He's no good.

But are you saying Mr. Young has been manipulated  in some way.

Everybody has different recollections about those times.

Apparently, there were a lot of drugs being consumed back then.

Don't leave us Mr. Beelzebubbelah

The effort that you make in your posts is well appreciated.

You have a singular voice and an intelligent and valuable point of view.

You would be missed by many.

Since this thread got me back into a Neil Young kick I've been listening to Le Noise from 2010.
Nearly flawless to me. Just Neil, his guitar, and a ton of effects.
Here's the video companion.

This music is new to us and so fucking great.

It's hard to keep up with everything Uncle Neil puts out.

45 years and it keeps on coming.

You're welcome, MrHippie, glad to share the music. Music is the best, to quote Frank Zappa.
I love it when he plays the electric guitar and this album certainly filled the bill.

3OctaveFart

I should like Spingsteen, but his douche fans have a way of turning one the other way.

Only a Brucehead will painstakingly try to explain what Born in the U.S.A. "is really about, bro."

I'm somewhat surprised that no one has mentioned "Sample and Hold" from the "Trans" album.  Pound for pound, the greatest rock song ever written.

I need a unit to sample and hold
But not the angry one
A new design, new design.

I'm getting misty-eyed just thinking about it.

What was the falling out with Young?

ediot:  Not Sure what it is.  I puke when I hear Neil's voice?

I like Neil Young, but don't like his singing voice.
I feel the same way about Dire Straits. Knopfler's voice doesn't do it for me. I have an album with him and Emmylou Harris and he ruins the thing for me. Like Jar Jar Binks.

Trans is a good album because Neil Young has all those vocoder songs.

I like all kinds of music.  Rock, jazz, classical, country, reggae, blues, folk, western swing, dixieland... it's hard to think of a genre that I don't like.  But I like quality.  There is gold to be found in all genres of music.  I really pretty much dig it all, as long as it's the good stuff.

I ignore most music that I find to be lacking in talent, quality, and general listen-ability.  There's no reason to go around hating everything I don't like.  But there's one artist, one sole artist whose songwriting is so incredibly vapid, whose voice is so grating, whose talent is so severely lacking, that the mere mention of his name starts my blood to boil and my head to throb.  I am absolutely filled with incredulity at how any self respecting person could listen, by choice to this talentless goon.  I generally surmise that his fans only exist because he is supposed to be some kind of legend.  His reputation as an icon is a self-perpetuating myth that somehow keeps going, regardless of how poor his music is.  I absolutely loathe Neil Young.

Imagine for a moment that Neil Young were not famous.  Imagine that you nor anyone else had ever heard of him.  Now imagine yourself at an open mic in some bar somewhere, and up to the stage staggers this old hippie, wrinkled clothes, Yamaha guitar in hand, some kind of floppy hat adorns his greasy head.  And here comes the song.... "OLD MAN LOOK AT MY LIFE I'M A LOT LIKE YOU."  No one would say "this guy should be a legend."  People would be holding back laughter, out of politeness.  If Neil Young hadn't somehow lucked into his position in the constellation of rock and folk legends by sheer happenstance, he'd never have been even remotely famous.  Not even regionally famous.  He sucks.  It's that simple.  Neil Young fucking sucks and nobody could EVER convince me otherwise.

The General..I don't understand you at all.
"Down by the River" .... Did you like ever?

Smoke some dope.. And give it a try.. down by the river...

Surprised no one's dropped this here yet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZWiV9wY_R4

While Neil's acting is atrociously two-dimensional and it's pretty cheesy overall, there's enough interesting bits throughout to make it worth tracking down and watching. The anti-nuke theme is admirable too.  8)
