She is an improvement, but visage does not rhyme with dressage.

The system is so far broken that universal health care seems the only logical solution...

So government regulations, bureaucracy and meddling, all of which have inflated costs and confusion and led to the issues with have affordability, are bad, but you want MORE government regulation, bureaucracy and meddling, so be the "solution"? How is that logical? Government has no business running healthcare for 315 million Americans.....NONE! For one, they can't afford to do it (see Debt; Federal) and secondly, they completely botch nearly everything they get involved in.

Yeah before Obamacare healthcare was sooooooooooooo affordable. And the gubbermint sucks at everything it does which is why we have interstates, nuclear navy, super advanced Air Force, and robots gathering data about Mars. Yeah. We suck.

Hence my comment about a caring society.  USA! USA! USA!

And how many trillions have been spent, by the government, taxpayer money, on the "War on Poverty"? The answer - $22 trillion dollars!

I think we're a VERY caring society, so caring that we lead the world in charitable donations by individuals and we don't require government to force us to do so. We, the US taxpayer, contribute greatly to the needs of the poor, not only here, in our country, but in the Third World also.

Yeah before Obamacare healthcare was sooooooooooooo affordable

Obamacare hasn't fixed anything, nor will it and in some cases, it's worsened problems. It was written by the insurance lobby, for goodness sakes. Government needs to extricate itself from a great number of things, healthcare chiefly among them. The states need to responsible for healthcare regulation and administering of as much of the public healthcare plans, as possible.

We need to encourage things like co-ops, allowing businesses, municipalities, etc., to come together and get group rates and coverage. They work great, but the government regs are so strict on how they have to work, that unless you're a really big city or corporation, it's cumbersome and expensive to start up.

There are a million things we can do to cut costs before we begin to look at the Fed's running MORE of our lives.

Sure we have those things, nobody disputes that, but do you REALLY want to point to the Pentagon as an example of a positive, when it comes to showing examples of good government? If so, I'd love to show how just how much is wasted by the DoD. They're among the worst offenders of waste and negligence.

Totally and completely agree! Need to write an entirely new constitution.

So government creates and facilitates an environment where people/companies are able to manipulate things to their advantage and you're seemingly blaming the Constitution? That makes no sense. The issue isn't the Constitution, it's government exceeding its authority and doing things, regulating things, that it's not supposed to be involved in and fostering a situation where companies like GE are able to pay virtually no taxes. Both parties are owned by lobbyists and their influence needs to curtailed, greatly! The Constitution is perfectly fine, it's the federal government IGNORING it and exceeding their mandate, that is the problem.

I feel like, and course I could be wrong, that our founding fathers would laugh hysterically then cry at our stupidity from finding out we are following the exact same constitution from 1776 and haven't improved upon it once our country and world has changed. America, and Americans are afraid of change.

It's been changed a great number of times, so in effect, it HAS been "improved". Those things are called Constitutional Amendments, maybe you've heard of them and several of them have had a great impact on our nation. Americans are NOT afraid of change, by-in-large, correctly, Americans fear politicians that talk out of both sides of their mouths, messing with something like individual liberties.

That's crazy talk.  All of the most effective healthcare solutions on the planet are national socialist programs.  Leaving healthcare to the states is tantamount to abolishing it for the poor.  For example, Gov. Bobby Jindal in Louisiana is trying to defund Planned Parenthood right now, and previous to this new outrage, the state has systematically closed hospital doors for the poor by defunding all of the health programs that helped poor people get medical service.  Healthcare is a national issue, and we should model our solution on the most successful programs in the world, not try to re-invent the wheel.

Really? Is that why so many people complain about healthcare waiting times, in so many of the European nations? Is that why many of those nations are re-thinking their systems, due to the influx of immigrants? Good, Planned Parenthood SHOULD be de-funded, they neither need, nor deserve, taxpayer funds on any level. The most successful and best system in the world is here, in the US, and STILL with all of our problems, it's the best. Nearly every problem we have with healthcare in the US today, is caused, on some level, by federal government intervention, regulation, or mandate. I'm not advocating the elimination of programs for the poor, but I am for shifting the management of it, to the state level, and eliminating Washington's role in our system, as much as possible.

Healthcare is a national issue because the government, in their infinite wisdom, has botched most the things they've touched within the system, and created a situation where the HMO system is able to do whatever they want, with no concerns about monopolies. This is the system that government has engineered and the lobbyists and politicians, on both sides, have put us into this mess. Why you trust them to get us out of it, with MORE GOVERNMENT, is beyond me.

Lies.  I have several friends in Canada and Scandinavia and they unanimously pity us for our awful healthcare problems.  See “Universal Healthcare Doesn't Mean Waiting Longer to See a Doctor:
A new report from the Commonwealth Fund shows that people in other industrialized nations get doctors' appointments faster than Americans do.”
http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/11/universal-healthcare-doesnt-mean-waiting-longer-to-see-a-doctor/281614/

The truth is that "free market healthcare" has never worked anywhere in the world, because healthcare isn't a discretionary product, it's a necessity, so "supply and demand" doesn't work with healthcare (as you may have noticed).  The U.S. has, by far, the most expensive / least effective healthcare system in the developed world (a problem which preceded Obamacare by the way).

Good, Planned Parenthood SHOULD be de-funded, they neither need, nor deserve, taxpayer funds on any level.
Now I see.  You drank the hyperconservative Kool-Aid.

Planned Parenthood is the first line of defense against breast cancer, cervical cancer, and the only source for affordable STD screening for countless millions of people in this country.

But I’ve learned that debating with people who parrot Faux News propaganda is an exercise in futility.

I’m out.

They aren't lies, they're facts that are seemingly ignored by every advocate for government run healthcare. Do a Google search for waiting times healthcare (European country) and LOOK at the news stories. You're sorely mistaken and my wife could tell you stories of people that have come here, primarily from Canada, France, and the UK, because of our access to healthcare, rather than having to wait months for appointments with specialists. I don't have to rely on anecdotal comments, my wife practices medicine, I know precisely how things are.

I've consumed no Kool-Aid, it's you, who continues to believe in some fictitious nobility of PP, and chooses to ignore the purely evil intentions they have (and have always had). Almost every penny they make is made off abortions, it's their focus, and there are federally funded clinics, that don't sell fetal issue and don't try to craft new abortion techniques, so as to fine tune the process, to salvage aborted babies, that do a lot more, than PP does, but they don't get nearly the attention they deserve. Being married to an Obstetrician, I've heard the nightmares that come out of these "clinics" that PP operates.

I've gotten no information from Fox News, nor am I an "ultra-conservative" that gets his information parroted to him. I think for myself and I can tell who does and who doesn't and sadly, I think you're in the latter column, rather than the former.

Edit - Here is an example of the wonderful people in the "women's health" community. I'm sure you'll find her heroic and the parts where she describes the garbage disposal method for dealing with an overstock of dead babies. I'm sure you'll get a thrill where she mentions she contemplated a "bonfire". Wonderful physicians, real humanitarians.
