"Have they put out a missing elderly alert for crazy uncle Hoagie, yet?  Things just haven't been the same since daddy Art went for smokes.  Step-daddy Noory is so stupid and boring." >:(

Weird. I can't find a ROM for it. It must be a super rare cabinet.

Ha! If anyone qualifies for a "Silver Alert" it is RCH! Especially during this cold-snap. I doubt acrylic, or glass, domes would protect him and his car, with the make-shift, homemade plates, is no place to sleep in this weather!

This begs the question:  Why didn't Hoagie ever have a classic arcade game / pinball show?  I mean tell me all that cultural assimilation of space invaders and asteroids and moon patrols wasn't part of some subtle e.t./military disclosure program!

Yes, the US Army actually hired Atari to make them a tank sim after playing Battlezone...and there's also the urban legend of this:

Oh yeah, and the Army also made this as a recruitment (brainwashing) tool about a decade ago.  ;)

Oh, people took it plenty serious alright. It generated a number of sequels and a bunch of academic studies have been done about it. Also, it worked. Recruitment went up. ;)

Don't believe me? Here, peruse the Wikipedia page yourself:

military sim games that came out around America army, the military even uses it to train

Cool! I think some of those were available for the original xbox. I'm going to have to check them out. I picked up a copy of America's Army a while back more out of historical curiosity and still haven't put it in yet.

P.S. Apparently those games were all based on this one:

I dedicate this song to Hoagland.

Also, I would like some forum flair to indicate that only he and I know, just how tragic it is that he is not allowed to be on the air and talking right now. It's a national embarrassment.

Thanks in advance.

I was being sardonic but yes, Hoagie was very smitten with Bernie over the birdie incident. He was really feelin the Bern that night.  :D

Extremely rare and not very popular. A quick search brought me here: http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_list.php?letter=S&type=
which led to this:  http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=13220

Edit: I remember seeing those at the time at the local bowling alley though. They never got much play when I was there.

Cool site for the Vid, pinball, jukebox collectors though.  :)

It's too bad. It looks like kind of a fun game. I can only hope that someone who owns one of these cabs will do the right thing and upload the ROM for posterity.  ;)

Darren is doing an "imagining" panel on wolfmans show right now.

Thanks for the link.  I hadn't heard of this game until I read this book called "Armada", which mentions it, along with a whole slew of later games, books, & movies that according to the fictional but plausible storyline had in a sense prepared or even trained civilians for an upcoming E.T. battle.  It was kind of a Last Starfighter story.

Unfortunately I can't recommend this book since I thought it failed on several levels, but anyone who's interested in the world of 80's games and related pop culture should check out his earlier novel "Ready Player One" which is a real kick.  (Supposedly a movie's coming out in a year or so.)
