So, Jimmy keeps saying we need a Progressive Party in this country to truly counter the Republicans and Corporate Dems and he sometimes suggests that Bernie Sanders should lead this. However, I think to many of us he seemed to be working in cahoots with the corrupt corporate Dems and maybe still is. So, that plus the fact that he's pretty old makes it a bad idea. No, if that's going to happen they need to start fresh with someone young, honorable and, as yet, uncompromised. I wonder if they could coax Tulsi Gabbard away from the Dems because the longer she stays there you just know they'll eventually ask her to sell her soul to the devil. She fulfills all those requirements and then some. She's young and energetic. It'll probably take several elections for people to get used to a new party before they had any chance of winning anyway. So, that bodes well. She seems very honorable. Service in the military. Pretty much every political decision she's made so far has been the right one. If he and his friends are really interested in this happening they should seriously consider her if they can get her. In the interest of having some serious opposition and keeping things interesting.

McCain was unique because he was born overseas but on a US installation. There was settled case law because someone in the past had been born while the parents were stationed at an embassy. Right now I forget who.

Cruz, as far as I am concerned was not settled case law and still isn't.

America Samoa is a territory and wiki said she became a naturalized citizen at the age of 1. It doesn't go into details from what I had seen. No idea if her parents were citizens.

p.s. I may be misremembering the McCain details because it has been years since I read up on it, but I got into a detailed discussion past year on Cruz and as far as I am concerned it is still not settled case law.

As far as the current discussion, if she was naturalized at age 1 she was clearly not a natural born citizen. I do know that if you are birn in Puerto Rico, you are a citizen, but not eligible to run for oresident. I do remember that from book learning.

McCain is a special case.  He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, a military base.  Congress passed a special resolution saying he was qualified to run.
Most people I know who were born on US military bases in foreign countries assumed they could not be president even though both parents were US citizens.
The question has not been resolved by law. PB the Deplorable cites a case that discusses what natural born citizen means, but even the judge admits his comments are dicta. Dicta is legalese for shit-posting. In other words, it is judicial rambling without legal authority.
As for the Gabbard wiki page, it's not clear if the person who got citizenship was Gabbard or her father. The sentence is poorly constructed.
All that said, American Samoa was subject to US laws at the time.  Does that make her natural born? With the mobility of people now, this question is sure to come to a head.
