Finished the final season of 'The Killing' on Netflix. This is probably my favorite cop genre series since 'Hill Street Blues'. The ending was fitting for the characters. The series is worth a watch if you have patience for a crime that is spread out over an entire season before it's solved. For character writing, it's peerless.

I did see the final season after it was released and love how they tied it up. So well done. There was chatter that they might continue it on for yet another season. Highly doubt they will. But, what a refreshing series for those if us who appreciate such quality. Both Enos and Kinnaman (sp?) worked so wonderfully off one another with incredible writing. Yet, miss when a series of such brilliance ends.

WHAT are you guys DOING to me??  Now I'm HOOKED on this one!!  Just watched the first two episodes.  I'd stay up half the night binging, but I'm exhausted. DAMN the two of you!!

Oh, yeah....THANKS      :) :) :)     I'm loving it.

Know what I'll be doing this weekend.   :P

Isn't it great? It kinda just sucks you in and before you know it, you're hooked and you're binge watching one eppy after another. As far as I'm concerned, Joel Kinnaman can do no wrong, but he and Mirelle Enos together are something else. Don't expect anything like the killer being found in one episode, and expect lots and lots of plot twists. It's totally character driven and it's all about Linden and Holder. Enjoy!

Yeah, I made it through ep 3 before hitting the deep zzzzz's last night.  haha  The slow development is what I like.  And the music.  So haunting. Love it, too.
This time I checked to make sure I wouldn't have to pay for following seasons like Hannibal.  tee hee hee.

I'll be having plenty of free time around the end of the month, but I just might be done by then.     ;)

How does "The Killing" compare with "True Detective"?

How does "The Killing" compare with "True Detective"?

Both series are excellent, and both are all about the two detectives and the interplay between them. The Killing is atmospheric - rainy Seattle is as big a character as the leads, if you know what I mean. It's the background for the drama which is gritty, downbeat and not given to pat answers or tied up loose ends. Probably more subplots in 'The Killing' than 'True Detective' but that's because the series ran longer. In common - they both focus on one crime and let that play out, both are quirky, excellently written and you may not always like the characters, particularly Linden, but she and Holder are very real right down to the grubby work clothes and lack of 'makeup and hair'.

Cary Grant mini binge

His Girl Friday(1940)  - perfect pairing with Rosalind Russell. smart, witty and very funny
I'm No Angel (1933) - with Mae West and still funny after all these years. Another brilliant pairing

Can't think of anyone ever coming close to Cary Grant.  :)
My favorite is still Notorious with Bergman and Rains....Mmmmmmm.
Think I'll take a break from The Killing(what a roller coaster) and find me some Cary.

I know it is too early to start playing Christmas songs, but still, why can't SinterKlaus (sp) come to visit early?

J.S. Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 565

Try playing that in two windows at the same time...  With different start points...  Dammit did I eat the goose-liver pate or drink the Beam...

The Signal. The Huge Waste of Time and Money.

I can't believe people got paid to make this.

Nope, I found Charade yesterday, but the Notorious listed is a comedy thing with Russell Peters. :(

I'm getting close to the end of season two of The Killing.  The rain, the rain....it IS a whole character on it's own.

12 angry men. Getting ready for jury duty next week and this seemed most appropriate.

Going to check-out The Equalizer today.

HUGE Denzel fan here. Can`t wait.

Bless Me, Ultima (2013)

For once, Netflix recommended a winner. This easily is one of my favorite films from the past few years - a coming of age story set in 1944 in New Mexico about a young boy, Antonio, who is guided in the ways of healing and native spirituality by his curandera, an old woman who may or may not be a witch but who guides him as he sees good and evil, life and death, myth and reality. Beautiful understated film and I don't know how I managed to not read the novel which has been around since the 70s and is a classic.

Hated this book.  Had to read in in college.

This is about the fourth movie I've tried to watch on Netflix that wasn't there.  Do they have different movies in different parts of the country??  I'm on the the same coast as you are, UC.  My Netflix search comes back with no matches.  Nuts.

PS:  Not many TV series make me sob.  The Killing got me.  Damn.

I saw a clip of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.  Not even an entire episode, just 5 minutes.

I cried.

I've always preferred showers, but after watching Defiance, I've grown to appreciate the therapeutic benefits of a nice long soak in a warm, steamy bathtub.

Sorry TW, it was on dvd, not streaming. I should have said. I retained one dvd because Netflix waits a long time to put new releases out there. I think you might like this one, and I have a feeling Aldous might as well.

Did you see the end episode? I was crying, but it was a happy cry. For a minute there it looked like it was going to be ugly sobs.

American Horror Story - Season 3 : Coven

BTW, if the song One Tin Soldier doesn't make an appearance at some point in this season, I will feel ripped off.  Justifiably so.

Too bad I can't draw an arrow fm One Tin Soldier to Coven.  That would make it so obvious even DPS could get it.

Because you will be justified in the end.
