Satisfies my massive man crush on Denzel while indulging in some serious shoot-em-up reverie.

2010's "Dear Mr Gacy" about a teenage douchebag named Jason Moss who becomes pen-pals(and more) with the noted sodomite serial killer while he was on death row. William Forsythe is excellent as Gacy(on par with Brian Dennehy's terrific performance in 1992's "To Catch A Killer")

And Gacy is the second biggest creep in the film after Moss. No mean feat.

nabila and i went to the movies the other night.  i had to choose something... so i chose the girl with the dragon tattoo.  what a steaming pile of shit.  a total snooze fest.  just putrid and awful.  perhaps the worst movie i've seen in 5 years.

save your money.  for sure.

What is so steaming-shitty about it? I saw the Swedish versions (available on Netflix streaming) and was wondering how the Hollywood version would compare. Noomi Rapace did such a good job (in the Swedish films) that she is how I imagine the Lisbeth Salander character. I doubt anyone else could compete. Of course, the books are simply superb.

Last movie I saw in the theaters..

Casino on Wednesday, Nov 22, 1995. I was 20 years old. I'd go more often if not for the other people who will be there.

Last movie I saw in the cinema was Captain America - kind of mediocre, but okay. I am planning to see the next installment of Sherlock Holmes on New Year's Eve. We go to an age-restricted cinema which serves adult beverages, so the other people tend to be tolerable and/or entertaining.

last movie I saw in the cinema was Children of Men a few years ago. That was such an excellent movie-going experience that I don't dare go back, knowing that it was a fluke.

last movie I saw at all was The Magic Trip (2011), which I'd been waiting to see for about 20 years.
hmm it was ok, i guess.

Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows

A lovely rendition of the confrontation between Holmes and Moriarty. Critics said, "Oh, it's just an action flick," but really, was Sherlock Holmes a stodgy fuddy-duddy? Hardly! The wife and I enjoyed the film greatly; it was quite a giggle-fest, with clever, understated wit. Mycroft is a hoot. And, to top it off, there is discussion of the oh-so-evil military-industrial complex - years before its time.

last night, nabila and i saw the devil inside.

review:  piece of shit.

it was completely not scary, the dialog and acting were awful, and i'm tired of movies filmed to look as though they're real life (blair witch, paranormal activity, etc.).  i remember seeing the preview a couple weeks ago, and the most "interesting" parts of the movie were ALL in the preview.  when the highlights of a film can all fit into a trailer, you know you're in trouble.  when the movie ended, a collective moan reverberated throughout the packed theater.  i've never been surrounded by so much visceral disappointment in my life.  perhaps if i'd been standing on the grassy knoll in 1963, i might have encountered a comparable level of disappointment.  who knows.  otherwise, i've never seen anything like it.

the most entertaining part of the film was toward the beginning when someone in the back row spilled their candy onto the floor.  it just streamed out, slowly, until it sounded like the package was empty.  the whole theater started laughing at this unknown person.  yeah, that was pretty entertaining.  otherwise, i'd rather have undergone penile surgery.

it's not a movie, but i wanted to mention it anyway.  i'm now on episode 5 of the increasingly poor decisions of todd margaret starring david cross.  as always, cross is brilliant.  i highly recommend this show.  it's available for streaming on netflix.

As a crank who generally likes nothing new...this show is damn good, indeed. Cross and Will Arnett are both great.

I finally saw True Grit last night. Great movie. Jeff Bridges was brilliant. Perhaps even better than Lebowski. Not as funny though.

10/10
