Only the most diehard left-wingers fail to see the problem in trading 5 terrorists for 1 American who was a deserter. And the government knew he was a deserter at the time the trade was made. This is one of those truly puzzling decisions that there is no way to rationalize or justify. Like having a personal email server instead of using a government email when you're 4th in line to be president.
And you'd be one of the first first sob sisters to post here how that lousy SOB Obama left a troubled American soldier in the hands of the brutal Afghan enemy if no deal was made for Bergdahl.  Just as sure a the sun will rise.

Keep trying Geezer. Your typical weak liberal efforts to justify this Obama move are a complete failure.  There is no justification. They wanted to let these terrorists go to help the enemy period. THey obviously figured they could disguise it as a trade for Bergdahl, it failed. If they had any respect for the U.S. military they'd bave known better. Amazing how many Obama actions have left the country wondering who's side he's on.

I have $20 that says Obama pardons Bergdahl, just to spit in the face of Americans that actually love America...

Done.  With a kicker: if Obama leaves office without pardoning Bergdahl, you have to admit he didn't make the trade to help the Islamic fascists.  If he does pardon Bergdahl then I will state he is in league with the Taliban to overthrow freedom loving people everywhere.

Unless, of course, he doesn't leave office (as Paper*Boy is convinced), sets up a "People's Republic", and tosses your ass in a gulag to pound rocks (among other things...) in which case the bet is void.

I would still win.  Hell, we would all win then. (pound... pound... pound...squeal... pound...)

Obama has a weak spot when it comes to Islam, and the Islamic terrorists.  If he isn't one of them, he may as well be

These Leftists despise our military, our police, and will always assume the worst.  Will always insist that however they can misconstrue something, or take details out of context, is the reality.  So shooting 'black' suspects is always unjustified, always racism.  Waterboarding is 'torture'.  And Gitmo is 'bad'.

They claim holding illegal combatants at Guantanimo Bay instead of bringing them into the US and putting them on trial (and thus exposing confidential National Security tactics, procedures, informants, operatives, documents, etc) is somehow Unconstitutional.

It's is not true of course, but their real goal is to damage our national security and hurt our relationships with our allies - by 'confessing' that we are somehow abandoning our principles of justice, and undermining the Constitution by holding them there

So Obama uses that as an excuse to release as many as he can.  They must have creamed their pants thinking about how many top Taliban jihadists they would have an excuse to release in exchange for Bergdahl.

And Gitmo is 'bad'.

And it's still open. Sure wish he'd have kept that campaign promise instead of Obamacare. As do 25 million of my unemployed friends.

Remember when passing national healthcare was going to give free healthcare to the 30-50 million who were uninsured?  8) Like that was ever the purpose. Now we have 40-60 million uninsured, and 5-10million Ted Cruz's who have signed up so they don't get fined.

Gitmo's prison camp is still open because the conservative Congress banned the transfer of any of its prisoners to max security US prisons. Obama was set keep the promise in his first year; they even had US prisons prepped.  So now, thanks to Boehner's Blockheads, we get to pay three f'ing million dollars per year EACH for the 120 or so prisoners left there.  Most of the current American guards were in grade school when the remaining prisoners arrived.

They should have had their military trials by now.  Those who should be executed should have been executed by now.  Those who are guilty of non-capital offenses should have been sent somewhere else to finish their term, and those who are innocent should have been released.

It's George Bushes fault they didn't try and execute the worst of them.  Can't really blame Obama, that's just not who he is - he'd rather let them go, and kill more Americans.

At no time should any of them ever set foot on American soil.  Even though our Bill of Rights and legal system would not legally apply to them as Illegal Combatants, there is always going to be some judge who will find the opposite.  And like I said, trying them in open court would be impossible without compromising national security.

I don't know why we are treating them so well, and spending so much on recreation and all the rest, we aren't getting any credit for treating them better than we need to - not from the Left, not from the Media, not from the foreign media.

We don't need any more Muslim infiltration into our prison population. We have enough problems with the homegrown Muslims and radicals. If they are a bad guy we should've killed them long ago or, if not, released them back in to the world (not to Mexico or somewhere they can use the Obama Doctrine and walk across the open-border though.) We should either RFID them or (at least) release them back to their countries with a hand-shake and some cash and let the rumors that they were collaborators happen and let their fellow Muslims be 'peaceful' with them. Bush and Obama were wrong to keep them around for so long or to torture them. If they aren't useful then dispose of them, one way or another, and move on.

We should keep GITMO at least as a R&R resort for our troops or open it up to America people in general. We have a hell of a lease and Cuba, supposedly, isn't even cashing our checks (for political posturing.) So keep GITMO.

No.  I cannot and do not respect Michael Savage and will not listen to him, even is he was talking to JFK.  Get me a Charlie Rose interview or someone with some integrity if you want to insist on "reason".

Same old innuendo and insinuation.  Shoebat's credentials are all self-awarded. CNN and other MSM dumped him as an ME "expert" years ago when his claimed history as a reformed PLO terrorist was found baseless. But he's made a nice living since 9/11 in the rightwing echo chamber as a resonator for hire.  Deriding Bergdahl's parents for trying to publicly placate the Muslim primitives who were holding their son, and needed no further excuse to kill him, is beyond the pale for decent people, but standard fare for the right wing ranters on AM radio. Accusing American liberals of being surrogates for Islamists, while ignoring how his examples were dealing with a mess created by tunnel-vision conservatives, is simply singing harmony to the malicious lot who listen to Savage's corrosive bile. Savage is a producer of resentment porn for ambivalence-filled folks like you who need a regular animosity fix. He chuckles and rubs his hands together when he finds another anecdote to misrepresent or blow out of proportion; hatred and resentment are just money in the bank.

Get me a Charlie Rose interview or someone with some integrity if you want to insist on "reason".
A classic conversation that occurred on PBS between left-wing media heroes  distinguished media titans Charlie Rose and Tom Brokaw less than a week before the 2008 presidential election as featured on Rush Limbaugh's radio program from 2008.

Quote
ROSE: I don't know what Barack Obama's worldview is.

BROKAW: No, I don't, either.

ROSE: I don't know how he really sees where China is.

BROKAW: We don't know a lot about Barack Obama and the universe of his thinking about foreign policy.

ROSE: I don't really know. And do we know anything about the people who are advising him?

BROKAW: Yeah, it's an interesting question.

ROSE: He is principally known through his autobiography and through very aspirational (sic) speeches.

BROKAW: Two of them! I don't know what books he's read.

ROSE: What do we know about the heroes of Barack Obama?

BROKAW: There's a lot about him we don't know.

RUSH: Incredible! (laughing) Let's send the journalist to find out! Why, have you guys ever thought of that, Tom? Have you ever thought about sending a reporter to find out who the guy is? Charlie! You got plenty of reporters there at PBS, at least on the... Have you ever thought about sending anybody out to find out who he is, besides the two books? (laughing) I cannot believe this. We know who his heroes are -- and, of course, that's the point! We know who his heroes are. We know who his alliances are with. We know who his friends are. We know that he chose them all. But to hear... This is last night. This is, what, four days, five days before the election. These are two of Obama's biggest media supporters!

It really is a priceless synopsis of the the 2008 presidential campaign and how the media refused to ever vet Obama. It was 6 months of check stand isle magazine puff pieces on what a wonderful family the Obamas were, and which cell phones they used, what was on their iPods, what was their favorite tv shows...etc.  :o

The media vetted Obama quite well.  The endless Reverend Wright and Bill Ayres stories filled the airwaves while Obama actually talked foreign policy.  Remember, the reason so many supported him was his pledge to end American involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Maybe because Brokaw or Rose didn't personally vet him face to face re: foreign policy hardly invalidates them as reporters or interviewers.

Besides, Obama faced off with McCain in Nashville on October 7th for a foreign policy debate moderated by Tom Brokaw:

http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/president/debates/transcripts/second-presidential-debate.html

...so, I'd really love to see the link you have for your transcript; I'd be surprised to see Brokaw claim he didn't know Obama's foreign policy ideas after moderating the foreign policy debate.  Thanks.

What's priceless worthless is a self-blinded ideologue ranter like Limbagh trying to criticize Tom Brokaw's chops as a journalist.  What's this, Rushbo...two major liberal journalists saying something negative about the  Democrat?  Can't be so according to your very own dogma. Biggie Fatass wouldn't have uttered such a broad negative about the Repub candidate; even his arch-enemy McCain, so close to election day.  Because he's so fair and balanced, you see.

I gave up smoking a loooooong time ago.  The place I work is akin to a sanitarium, so, not so far off base.

Besides, I'm too busy selling alcohol to "impressionable 21 year old girls" to spend too much time here.

...Me, I am glad the kid is on his way home whether that means facing desertion charges, or being lauded as some sort of hero...  At least the kid's alive, which we cannot say for everyone that went "over there"...

I've always figured that should he face charges of any sort, he should be found guilty and given a sentence of 'time served' & a discharge with full honors.  I'm pretty sure that if we could find out where Bin Laden was hiding, we knew exactly where the kid was at any given time and could have retrieved him if desired...  Anyhow, I raise a glass to his safe return!  (If he can get out of whatever VA hospital he is in the Germany alive that is...)

I do hate quoting myself...  Did I say later on in the thread that the kid had to come home to face the charges/consquences of the "desertion" rap?  No?  Well let me state that I hope he gets off 'free and clear' and has to face a punch in the face from everyone that had to scramble sit or stand because of his pusillanimous acts...  Fuq that deserter, traitor sonobitch.  I am glad he's home, and I'll be even more glad when he isn't imprisoned and has to face punches in the face repeatedly by people that were endangered by his act, or just pissed off by his act, or just doan like his muhajidhadi face...

He deserves every minute of getting punched in the face that his worthless life extends to him.  fuq that guy.

And the travel ban for the terrorists Obama gave away for the deserter is up. It is likely that this character Obama is hoping they decide to travel here, although they might not be radical enough in his opinion.

I guess they are working on the weekend and Labor Day because this news was released about Bergdahl. They apparently are going to add another charge, rarely used in recent times, against him as well as dissertation. If convicted, and barring Obama from intervening, he could face up to life imprisonment.

And that is why we should treat people humanely- to gain accolades from the left and foreign media.  In the absence of that praise, we should just put them in chains and hang them from a wall like it is 1588.
