Desert island top 10

Started by RealCool Daddio, April 20, 2014, 01:01:28 AM

The BBC used to have a show about desert island top 10 discs.  My pop culture tastes vary with the weather, but if I had to make a list tonight, in no particular order:

U2 - Joshua Tree
Stones - Exile on Main St.
Smiths - Strangeways, Here we Come
Nick Cave/Badseeds - Push the Sky Away
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Beatles - Rubber Soul
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Bob Marley/Wailers - Exodus
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

Uncle Duke

At least you know Nick Drake, you got that going for you.

I was thinking about this a few days ago. It is hard to narrow down to ten, so I cheated. Really, though, it changes a little from day to day. The first six are absolutes.

1. CrazyHorse Mongoose - Galactic
2. Axis: Bold As Love - Jimi Hendrix
3. Check Your Head -  The Beastie Boys
4. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
5. Dick's Picks Volume 3 - the Grateful Dead
6. The Beatles (White Album)
7. Nothing's Shocking - Jane's Addiction
8. Manzanita- Tony Rice Unit
9. World Clique - Deee-Lite
10. Waiting For Columbus - Little Feat

11. Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
12. Rage Against the Machine (first album)
13. Talking Blues - Bob Marley
14. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis

Some good picks - agree wholeheartedly with Astral Weeks, and could easily add a Hendrix or Dead album to my list.

And Nothing's Shocking - brilliant, nice add.  I could probably put T. Rex Electric Warrior on the list as well.

1. Marty Robbins - Hawaii Is Calling Me
2. Beach Boys - Surfin' USA
3. Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66- Look Around (or Greatest Hits as long as it has Batacuda)
4. Harry Belafonte-Jump Up Calypso  (I'm gonna chop up some shark while listening toJump In The Line)
5. Harry Belafonte-Calypso
6. Martin Denny - The Exotic Sounds of Martin Denny
7. Sara Tavares-Xinti
8. Billy Ocean- Ultimate Collection (That's right Billy Ocean has an Ultimate Collection-one step up from a greatest hits. I'm also gonna put a wig on a coconut and sing Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car)
9. Brian Eno-Shutov Assembly
10. Mozart-Concerto for clarinet and orchestra in A (K.622)

Absolutely love The Real McKenzies. Surprised to see someone mention them since so few people seem to know of them.

I'd probably spend the majority of my time trying to figure out how I ended up on a desert island with nothing but a few music albums.

Not yet. I frequently check their tour dates for a nearby show.

I'll just take my ipod with my entire collection on it (including Art Bell shows). :P

Oh and a generator with unlimited gas so I can keep it constantly charged.

Mr Bloom

MFM If you like X, check out Zi:Kill... hide, the guitarist of X discovered and signed them. Tusk (the vocalist) is my hero, his hero is Bowie... see how this list is a little full circle
