and in order to make that determination, i first cut myself and watch for the direction in which the blood flows. i then incorporate that datapoint into a series of algorithms... and boom! thread stickied.

only kidding.

in reality, a thread gets stickied when it starts seeing a disproportionate amount of traffic or just seems important.
