I often ask myself what is the enjoyment I get from watching the show. Is it the grand filmmaking in great locations? Fantasy being taken seriously as a genre?

Because it sure as fuck isn't the characters and their arcs. That ending was like a gut punch of awful.

I've read up to the end of the third book, and gave up in exhasperation as I detailed in a post somewhere.  However I still want to know what happens to certain characters (or, maybe I don't actually).

Yikes! Just watched the new episode. Now I wish I didn't.  The scene at the end was disturbing.

Yeah, I thought it was disturbing, too.  But nothing surprising about it.  I expected something like it.  And at least they didn't show her face.
I also thought the shot of Roz hanging dead with crossbow bolts strategically placed was actually more disturbing, but no one seemed to object to a "whore" being tortured to death. At least, not as vehemently.
It is Game of Thrones....I'm still going to watch.

I think I keep watching the show because it has the same kind of justice real life has most of the time - none.   
That, and I'm pretty sure nobody's going to wake up some morning and proclaim it all to be a dream.   

And don't count Reek out quite yet. Looks like they're building something up for the wretched rat.

This episode hooked me in, again. I'm interested to see how various storielines might play out.  Tyrian and the queen of dragons. Cerci and the religious nuts. King Thomas actually showing emotions and being assertive. The power play between Marjorie and Cerci. It's getting good.

I can tell you this... the story has more bloat than progression.

It starts with a nice king and his family. The king gets killed by a family with a meaner king. The meaner kings kids are doing the incest thing. To hide that fact they try to kill the nicer king's kid, but only cripple him. Then in another part of the world a faerie like woman and her asshole brother become family with a king that only grunts. But the blonde faerie woman marries that king. Her brother is killed by the grunt king pooring molten silver on his head. Then grunt king dies... I don't remember how. Then the now faerie blonde queen is going to be burned at the stake, but instead she incubates three dragons. In another part of the world it is very cold and there is a very high ice wall,ohh and ghosts or ice skeletons and werewolves... but you never see them... well hardly ever. This is the land that the dead good king's son has been banished... I gave up after that.

ok.  the sand snakes are hot.  you knew Bronn was poisoned since that seems to be a standard MO for their family/culture.  I'm surprised they provided an antidote for him though.  seemed like a cop out.  the great warrior Bronn killed by the poison blade of an 18 year old girl. 

Cerci finally gets some payback.  Are the zealots just out to serve the gods?  or is the High Sept (sp?) making a play for the Iron Throne?

I can't believe I ground through 3000 pages and wasn't even halfway through the to-be-completed story yet.  The story's bloat has bloat.
