Iirc, the crushed butterfingers sprinkled on hostess donuts was Hoagland's supposed contribution to the book.  There might have been butter involved as well (in addition to the butterfingers).

Does your family have a recipient for ramen noodles and not dog slices?  Apparently UFO Phil's family does.

Hi, I am a long-time fan of Art Bell and respect him so much. I truly hope his planned return in July goes well. But, while I know Art is savvy and very wise, I just hope he takes into account all of the "dangers" that lurk, such as "non-competes," etc. I worked in radio for over 25 years, and I know Art had a connection at one of the stations I worked at (WAVZ).  I personally think the best thing for Art is to form his own streaming network, that HE owns and controls. Then, do a deal, say with Lew Dickey of Cumulus, where Cumulus pays Art for broadcast rights of his show (this would have NO effect on his streaming). Broadcast rights fees would generate revenue for Art for use to fund the various costs associated with his streaming network. This is what I think he should have done with Sirius/XM.  This way, Art retains ultimate control, and Cumulus simply carries his show on their stations. This would be a boon to Cumulus in their continued challenge to I-Heart/Clear Channel stations, such as in NYC. Additionally, if he were to follow this formula, there would be no non-compete because he based the show on a streaming feed he owns and, if things went south with Cumulus, Cumulus simply drop the broadcast simulcast and Art could simply continue to stream.  I think this could be a great thing as it would generate revenue for Art and his efforts, such as paying Paul, etc., plus it would garner additional listeners beyond what streaming will.  In the end, I wish Art the very best, we are all pulling for him, he is a visionary, and if I were not in Connecticut, and closer to Pahrump, I would volunteer any services needed to help Art in his launch efforts. I left radio in 2000 and went to broadcast TV, but it would have been a great honor to have worked in some way with Art. I hope Producer Paul, and Keith, for example, know how lucky they are to work alongside Art Bell.  Finally, thank you Art for all you do and thank you for the many people you comforted late at night, including my late mother, who, for many years, tuned in to Art before going to bed. You kept her and many others from feeling alone in the night.

No prob, didn't bother me, but I thought it was a good post and that people should read it and they are more likely to read it if it's easy for them....

I read it. and liked it. so what about it.

I read it too. Nothing wrong with the content... but the format. JFC.
Point being, some folks see a wall o' text and scroll past it.
If you can type all that, hitting the return key a few times should be a breeze.

Post often, 1964kid.
Using any format you like.

I have a preference for paragraphs...

But I read it anyhow.

Thought it was a good read, and interesting ideas.

There must be a reason that Art chose the path that he did.

Hopefully he was joking about the 10 year non-compete associated with this one. ;)

No disrespect to Art and I'm sure he'll agree with me but if this venture goes south I don't think a non compete is going to be relevant.

Fingers crossed we won't need to find out. Bring on the glorious month of July.

I just heard a promo for IHateArtRadio - one of those that solicits advertisers.  It emphasized that everyone is now carrying a phone and listening to talk radio that way.  That's what Art has mentioned here.

George's ghostwriter for all his books -- except the cookbook -- is Bill Birnes. Bill set up the multi-book deal at Tor/Forge, a huge and wonderful publisher. I did the cookbook while also writing a fiction for Noory called Nero Blaze. It was to be a time-travel novel, and in old C2C shows, you'll hear him talk about it here and there. I was in Chapter 38 of a 42-chapter ms. when George cancelled everything with one terse email. Including another book in the queue beyond the ones we're talking about here.

So, I am to blame for the cookbook, not Bill.

Well I do not want to comment much about Dave except to say he is what he is. I do not think he will change. To be fair he has a listener base but there has been a profound change in that base and by that I mean if you listen to the callers it is just sad, it is one of the main reasons I stopped doing Weekends.

I am convinced that if I do a smart show it will attract smart listeners and smart callers. As I have said before and will again now, if George Knapp was the main host I would not even consider a new show,I have nothing left to prove, I just want the subject to be represented well, not seen as a joke. It hurts to see what I spent so many Years building reduced to that level. Dave works hard at hardly working. He gets high marks for showing up every day but then hardly works, almost like he really does not like the subject or is distracted. This is not just my opinion but the view of many and I don't think it is fair to what I think is such a truly important field to explore.

Anyway at this point there is clearly room for us both and as I have said if my show is smaller but smarter I can so live with that and Dave can continue to do as he does.
I no longer want to be bigger, just better.

That is a brilliant post, Art, and sums up what most people must feel. It's Dave's laziness that has always bothered me. We can all see that he isn't particularly bright but if he made an effort I am sure he could make a fairly passable show, yet he doesn't have the interest. The thing that first annoyed me was the way that he would stumble and bumble through the news, mispronouncing words and looking very unprofessional and ill-prepared. If he knew he struggled with long words, why didn't he check the copy through before he went on air? Just lazy, and showed a contempt for the audience. I am surprised they let Knapp carry on doing Coast because he shows up Dave for what he is, but they must imagine that practically nobody 'listens' any more (as opposed to having it on in the background) so they can do what they like, and nobody will notice or care. I listened to one of your Malachi Martin shows the other day, and the most chilling thought I came away with was how Dave would have butchered up the whole interview and Fr. Martin would never have appeared again.

I think you are absolutely right that there is no need to even address the Dave topic any more really; there will always be a substantial group of people who are satisfied with that kind of pablum and there is nothing we can do about it. But I am really looking forward to hearing the topic given the attention it deserves again.

That's cool about good news coming!

Art, about Airyn, is she Tagalog, Illocano, Mindanaon, or Visayan?  I've noticed a difference in the appearance and culture depending on where someone is from.  Many Americans don't know this, but most Filipinos are tri lingual or even more, they speak their island's language, the national language, English, Spanish, and sometimes even more.  I want to learn Cebuano, I am determined to keep the culture alive in our family.

Art if you make a lot of phone calls back home there, there's a low cost phone service called Lunex with Globe unlimited, it costs 25 bucks a month and you can talk unlimited to one Globe cell owner.

There are only a handful of people that are known, sort of, and only one that has the nads to use his real name. Any breaking news needs to come from someone that has credibility.

This isnt to say you dont know something good, its just pointless, if you get my drift. There are way too many disinformation specialists that troll. Of course , all of this is obvious, so why would you want to spill something knowing that most people are aware of these things? hmmmm

But the sheer number of crazies on the internet didn't exist.  The fact that you had to have some level of intelligence to get on the internet, weeded out most of the noise.
