Damn.  That's expensive.  ART, we are pulling for you, bro.  If anybody can make this come together, it will be ART FUCKEN BELL!  You are a craftsman in a world of broke dick handymen. You carefully work your craft while the others bumble their way through the night.
I've said it before, I'm no fan boy.  I'm a realist.  I see it as it is.  I say it as it is.  And there it is.

It would be fun.

Fun? Sure, if all it took was a text from Art to Stig Anderson (who is DEAD by the way) saying, 'pls cn i hav ur songs on my show, ttyl' but that's not the case. It's not a simple matter of songwriters here. Art would have a better shot at writing and performing original works he's composed over five months than deal with copyright headaches in that time. The system in this country is so fucked.

Next time, some summer night. I and my acoustic guitar sing my wife a song that she likes? I shall charge her for enjoying my performance.  I won't get anything for it.. anything..    But it will remind me however, of how the music industry is beyond fucked.  ..yet on that night I shall find myself, simply, anything but fucked.

That's "but".  not butt.. ;D

Be careful charging her... She may report you the next time you decide to sing "happy birthday" to a friend in a restaurant without paying the ASCAP fees. http://www.unhappybirthday.com/ .  There is finally a class action suit to have it released to the public domain where it belongs.  However, until such time I would suggest not charging your wife for your performance. ;)

Might be part of the solution.

Jazz, what's the weather like tomorrow?  I'm still in today, your yesterday and you are in your today, my tomorrow.  So you see how that 'weather tomorrow' thing works.

32 grand a month on top of building the studio itself to start? Ouch. Commercials and live reads would help mitigate cost but not that much.

That is outrageous that they want to charge that much.

Art is terrestrial radio a definite no go? Even if it's just KNYE where I imagine you might have a bit more control?

I know you want to steer clear of AM radio for various reasons but if it's the only avenue to return that's financially viable is the door completely closed?

Maybe Art can give us his take on this :)

now i'm not sure how many listeners they get online...it would surge with Art, but hell they are already playing the whole song catalogue

there are assumptions in this list, but with terrestrial radio, i'd think the benefits could include:

1) more listeners
2) more callers and a wider variety of people calling
3) a global internet stream
4) from my understanding of how this all works, the ability to stream the bumper music
5) the ability to more directly compete with noory
6) more/better press attention/promotion
7) more revenue
8 ) a staffer will retrieve coffee for you

there are probably other benefits i'm not thinking about.  yes, there would be more commercials, but we all fell in love with art's show on terrestrial radio with commercials and i don't see why those circumstances can't be repeated.  nobody minds a few commercials per hour... at least i don't... especially when the commercial copy is being read by art.

There's a lot of sense to this. Highlighting the Nevada thing would help bring in a local fanbase, and by fanbase I mean 'real-time caller pool' which is what Art is looking for.
Sorry about the grammar.

I thought the big player might have been Live365, but here's a rough breakdown of music costs:

Check the listener hours maximum (5000) and then add the cost per additional hour at .05 per hour/listener. 10,000 listeners x 3 hours x 22 days = 660,000 listener hours - 5000 = 655,000 x .05 = $32,750 + $199 = $32,949 per MONTH.

And wait until it goes to 20,000 listeners?

Bateman has it right, now you see what we are fighting, those are the prices for playing bumper music I think it's insane, unless we can wrap what we want to do into a existing deal we are truly in trouble. People simply don't believe it can cost that much and it should not!

there are assumptions in this list, but with terrestrial radio, i'd think the benefits could include:

Streaming only Subscribers = Cash and a lot less hassles than terrestrial radio, think running Gabcast only with hundreds of thousands of paid subscribers, but we're talk'in Mr. Art Bell, that can pull in the numbers

1) more listeners Paid Streaming don't need large sales staff for selling commercial time
2) more callers and a wider variety of people calling  Art can get subscribers and from Bateman's post first 5,000 can listen for free
3) a global internet stream same
4) from my understanding of how this all works, the ability to stream the bumper music Subscribers pay for it
5) the ability to more directly compete with noory Who cares
6) more/better press attention/promotion  Art want's us to cyber blitz new show... free advertising
7) more revenue subsciber income at 20,000 payers at $10/month looks pretty nice based on Bateman's post, and 5,000 listen for free
8 ) a staffer will retrieve coffee for you Very small staff run lean and mean

there are probably other benefits i'm not thinking about.  yes, there would be more commercials, but we all fell in love with art's show on terrestrial radio with commercials and i don't see why those circumstances can't be repeated.  nobody minds a few commercials per hour... at least i don't... especially when the commercial copy is being read by art.
No commercial or very few with subscriber based streaming

I  know little... but seems to me that people are focused on cost of paid streaming, whereas I see income potential, that can work for Art, because he is a known talent that people will pay to listen.
Think Netflix, Glen Beck or other successful popular paid streamers.
Netflix dings my credit card $9 bucks a month, I could care less, it's under my radar of concerns, I'd gladly have Art ding it too

Reading between the lines it looks like it.

Art has stated that he's done with terrestrial. I hope there is room to move from this stance.

Little Hater

I guess I'm a little unclear as to why it's so important to Art that he play the same old tired tunes he used in the past. There's a ton of great music out there whose artists would be happy for the exposure, and who would provide their stuff for free.

I can't comprehend how one can consider the bumper music Art Bell has always played in his shows as "old tired tunes".

Art Bell's bumper music was never about exposure, and if you actually listen to the lyrics and themes of the songs he played before and after breaks you would notice how intrinsic a part of the interviews they were.

If anyone wants emerging artists they're quite welcome turn on Snorey's aberration... He's got whole shows built around that nonsense-- so as to take the focus off of himself and his failings as a host.

how about giving George Knapp a call , perhaps his tv station lawyers can recommend a copyright specialist to advise you .

or contact bateman, as he has a deal under WABC and maybe point you in a direction that could be viable?

Art--I'm confused.  Are you saying the existing deal you have been talking about has fallen through?  OR are you telling us how expensive bumper music is...IF your existing deal falls thru?

I read before that KYNE is not a viable option. I believe that was discussed many many pages ago.
