George Noory Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium

Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

No
No

Sleepwalker

Did I hear George, early this morning, bemoaning the fact that the news is always negative (I'm assuming he meant the mainstream media)?  He made some comment about never hearing that "someone had a birthday and the cake was delicious."  Instead, the news is always about . . . Doom and Gloom.

This, from the man who regularly fills the airwaves with predictions about the upcoming end of the world.  Do you think he truly believes this stuff he says or is he just putting us on?

listening to the show ... someone should tell George that the host is not the SUBJECT of the show. he keeps talking about himself. not very interesting. the story about how he locked himself out of his car wasnt terribly interesting. surprisingly George drives a Ford.

Here's my take: Lately, especially this week, George is taking a more art bell style approach to the show, even this mundane story of his car keys was Bell-ish... Just a thought.

George used the Inca interview to plus Ancient Aliens "they interviewed me for a TV show Ancient Aliens." The comment that followed had nothing to do with Ancient Aliens. He is clueless.

You can hear the wheels churning and grinding in his head.

I used to love those personal stories Art would tell.  About how he loved McDonald's but there was no McDonald's in Pahrump. So the only time he could enjoy a burger and fries was when he and Ramona would drive the Geo Metro to Vegas to go to the dentist.  And the time he glued his lips together during a break.  Or forgot his front porch had been removed and went out the front door during a break to have a smoke and . . . . fell into a deep hole.  That was Art, a regular guy doing his radio show from his double-wide in the desert, driving his Geo Metro to McDonald's. Art really made you want to listen to Coast to Coast every night as well as Dreamland on Sundays.  A great radio talent.

George has moving parts in his head?  That's a surprise.

Not saying it will work but I think I perceive a change or at least attempted change in his style

Last night's first hour interview of Mark Adams, on Machu Puchu and the Inca, condensed all GN's problems as a host and interviewer; banal, unprepared, ADD-prone, and unclever.  He came very close to ruining an interesting segment with a smart, down-to-earth scholar, but Adams knowledge and skill allowed him to keep the focus on the Inca; a great civilization overshadowed by silliness about the Maya or Nazca. I could have listened to Adams for the full program.  The submarine UFO schlub was more Noory's speed.

Psst...George...it doesn't have to be weird or strange to be a good topic. You don't have to force the subject to lost secret codes and unexplained powers.

(BTW...is there any way to get rid of that dopey old poll frame that pastes itself to the top of each new page in the thread?)

Let's not forget the contributions of those callers. The first one or two was it said: There's no way they built it without space aliens. SPACE ALIENS. Poor guest.

I thought Noory would mix up what the guest last night was discussing called USO (Unidentified Submerged Object)
Noory would ask him about USO entertainers for the miltary. :D

My take is that that roundabout story was Simple George's way to interject what a wonderful son he is.  His locking his keys in the car (for the first time in his life) was the result of his sister calling him to tell him his mother had some heart blockage but would be fine.  The story started out with Georgie saying how he hates it that his sisters have always conspired with his mother to never tell him anything that would cause him to worry.  Ya see how that all works out?!  ::)

Being unprepared is what makes GN so annoying for me. He gets 5 shows a week and 3 of them are guaranteed bad.
I can handle banal and not clever (I feel this way about Charlie Rose) but at least be prepared.

There are things I don't like about Ian and G. Knapp, but I always feel they are prepared for their shows.

Prepared and at the very least feigning enthusiasm for the upcoming four hours, if not genuinely anticipating the conversation about to unfold.

Whereas Snoory always appears to facing some unpleasant task, like taking out the garbage.

I was a Dark Shadows fan back in the day and listened to the first two hours of C2C last night since they had Kathryn Leigh Scott as a guest, one of the leads on the original show.  Scott must now be close to 70 and she was energetic and enthusiastic.

Noory was an ass as usual.  Scott mentioned that Barnabas of Dark Shadows (Jonathan Frid) had recently died at the age of 87 due to a fall.  Noory had to chime in that his Dad died at 88 also because of a fall.

Noory later interjected that Billy Mumy of Twilight Zone is a "friend of the show" (C2C).  It had nothing to do with anything re: Dark Shadows.  Who cares who Noory knows?  Hasn't Noory mentioned Billy Mumy enough?  Wow!  Noory really knows celebrities.

haha... I'm just getting around to listening to the show from 4/30 called "upcoming cataclysms." On a certain torrent site this guy posts shows and I think he labels em.  Anyway, It sounds like the subject matter is good ya know planet x ouija boards and the normal C2C fair... I'm in hour one so I'll just wait for snorry to ruin it or start talking crazy...

Noory won't admit he really admires Mumy for his years of moving performances in "Lost in Space".

Ruteger

Noory was reading a title of one of his guests, (Preston) and pronounced the well-known title "The Great Gatsby" as the "Great Gasby" He immediately corrected himself which is the first time I have even heard him do so. I don't listen much anymore.

What a dunce. Noory has never heard of this tome before he did the show?

bluebyrd53

It seems others have noticed that GN has been stumbling over simple words more than usual. Little words like "show" are now "so", and so on. No one is perfect, but he has been making more mistakes than usual, even for him. I almost feel sorry for him, it's like he has a brain problem or something.

Noory did admit that last night when he mentioned Billy Mumy played little Will Robinson. But he couldn't remember the name of the TV show.  :o

Ye gods and little fishes! Does this man's egoism know no bounds? He turns everything, everything into a jumping off spot for a personal reference. Who was it the other day who had a couple of long, detailed posts describing what a "malignant narcissist" is, and demonstrating how George fit the description perfectly? The poster did a really good job of making his case. What a surprise, eh? - George seems to fit a "narcissistic personality disorder". Well, George sure does seem to have some "ego", "narcissism" and "disorder" mixed up in his personality in some percentage...I'm just not sure what kind of mix it is.

Oh, and about Jonathan Frid - I was a kid when Dark Shadows became a hit as a "gothic soap opera". Seems like it started out as a mid-day broadcast, which we watched in summer, but later switched broadcast time until after school let out. When Frid joined the show about a year in, playing Barnabas Collins, part of an old New England blueblood family, the kids fell in love with him. He had a tall, gangly, Ichabod Crane-type body, with cadaverous eyes and gaunt cheeks. He wasn't handsome or athletic so much as he was imperious and commanding. Even though it was an American show and he was supposed to be from a New England Puritan family, his style seemed much more like English aristocracy. His performance had much more noblesse oblige in it than Yankee primness. I remember being mesmerized by his way of saying "Thank you, no" instead of plain old, "No, thank you". Wow! That was how you say you're in charge of everybody in the room, I thought. That had to be the way that people trained to be royalty said anything from "I don't care for anything more" to "I find you highly repellent, please go away".  It seemed so much more sophisticated than what we dirt-dumb Americans did...or so it a 5th-grader thought.

To this day if I ever hear someone say that I think of Frid and how he sounded like a prince when he did it. But Frid was nothing but a 2-bit actor who had his 15-minutes and was never seen again to my knowledge. But in 1967 or so I thought he was the most sophisticated and commanding guy this side of Cary Grant. Who of course was God. And no one could out-cool Cary, even in the 60's.*  And mostly because he said "Thank you, no" with that precise-but-slightly-slurring uber-royal way of speaking that the members of the House of Windsor have of communicating with us lesser mortals.

* Hell, even today. Take a clip of Sean Connery in Goldfinger, Daniel Craig in Casino Royale , Steve McQueen in Bullitt, and then match them up against Cary Grant in North By Northwest or To Catch A Thief. No contest, and that's just on style, looks and carriage alone. I would say try it with dialogue but that would be like tearing the wings off flies - simple torture. Cary had style. And he was too sexy for his shirt.

Morgus

Last night Noory told his own personal story about him and his sister when the original Dark Shadows was on the air in the late 60s and early 70s.
Noory said his sister was the one who ran home after school to watch Dark Shadows live on TV every afternoon.
But Noory said he was too busy playing football and other things to go home and watch the TV then.
Iin other words he wants listeners to think he was one of the cool dudes then and not a geek like he envisions all the Dark Shadows fans?
What a load of baloney... :P
