... McClatchy describes Executive Order 12333 as follows:

“It is a sweeping mandate that outlines the duties and foreign intelligence collection for the nation’s 17 intelligence agencies...

You saw where it said 'foreign' intelligence collection, right?

You know we have intelligence agencies and spies, right, and that they are in agencies and departments under the Executive Branch (President)?  What is it you think they do, if not gather foreign intel?

So you guys are with Obama and the Fascist Left on this one - the US is too White, too free, too successful, too influential, too strong militarily.  We invent too many things, produce too much food, have too much wealth, and are too civilized.

I get it - we need to be flooded with the world's poor and diseased, we need to have our military hollowed out, our wealth redistributed, our healthcare system ruined, our guns and ability to protect ourselves taken, our religious freedon suppressed.  We need to continue dumbing down our schools and filling our prisons with illegal alien predators.  Our borders should be wide open and totally unguarded, and anyone in the world with a highly infectious disease should have their visa application expedited.  We need to speed up the process of having our credit and currency wrecked - preferably by borrowing ever more in support of people who want to come here and even those who only want the money and services but would rather stay home.  What's left of our economy should be suffocated.  Our culture should be attacked and our history lied about.

We should be spied on - every phone call recorded, every email saved, every piece of mail photographed on both sides, every move we make on-line monitored.  We should have a device in every vehicle monitoring where we go, and cameras in all public locations recording every move we make.  All government agencies should be armed to the teeth, and have drones to spy on us from above.

We need new taxes and all current tax rates should be jacked up

Only the Left should have the right of free speech and the right of assembly to protest, and even that should be carefully monitored for 'wrong-thinking'

Our alliances should be ruined, and our enemies strengthened.

Because, you know, Thomas Jefferson had slaves.

Well, you have the right guy in office for all that.

By the way, are either of you Americans?
Well, that's their short list anyway.

This one is from the EFF.  Probably a bunch of Commies, since they are mostly concerned with protecting the rights of ordinary citizens, not just the rich, white, conservative elite:

This is an opinion piece, not a news article.  Not that 'news' from the Washington Post is actual honest news anyway, but still.  It also combines 12333 with the Bush era 215.

Anyway, to focus on what the piece says about 12333 specifically, it's about collecting foreign intelligence.  Sometimes an American abroad is going to be on a call that is monitored.  I don't think people really expect to have the same rights abroad as they do here, since our laws don't apply outside our borders.  I guess I just don't see the evil here, we need to be able to monitor certain people in foreign countries for our own National Security.

"Bulk data collection that occurs inside the United States contains built-in protections for U.S. persons, defined as U.S. citizens, permanent residents and companies. Such collection must be authorized by statute and is subject to oversight from Congress and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. The statutes set a high bar for collecting the content of communications by U.S. persons. For example, Section 215 permits the bulk collection only of U.S. telephone metadata â€" lists of incoming and outgoing phone numbers â€" but not audio of the calls.

Executive Order 12333 contains no such protections for U.S. persons if the collection occurs outside U.S. borders..."

He goes on to talk about the way the order is used TODAY.  If a President has reached back and interpreted it in a way that expands what it was originally for, and if that crosses a line, that's on the Administration doing that.  But again,  I think there is a distinction between what is allowed within our borders and outside our borders.  For crying out loud, we have American citizens fighting with ISIS - it seems to me we should be able to monitor their communications.  And that's just one example.

"The order as used today threatens our democracy. There is no good reason that U.S. citizens should receive weaker privacy and oversight protections simply because their communications are collected outside, not inside, our borders."

Perhaps.

Here is their main blurb about 12333 (and again the piece contains references to additional EO's issued post Reagan)

"We do know a little about the spying conducted using EO 12333, but more must be revealed to the public. One early news report revealed it was the NSA's claimed authority for the collection of Americans' address books and buddy lists. It's also involved in the NSA's elite hacking unit, the Tailored Access Operations unit, which targets system administrators and installs malware while masquerading as Facebook servers. And in March, the Washington Post revealed the order aloneâ€"without any court oversightâ€"is used to justify the recording of "100 percent of a foreign country's telephone calls."

Ok, address books, buddy lists, sys admins, malware, FaceBook - none of this existed when RR was President.  Subsequent Administrations are responsible for this.  And again, foreign telephone calls - I'm good with that, we should be monitoring certain phones in Russia, China, the Middle East, and some other places where people who mean us harm, steal our technology, etc are.

Spying is nothing new.  Mass surveillance of US citizens within the US, who have broken no laws and are not under suspicion of anything is new.  And that's where the problem is.  And Barrack Obama is the one responsible for it.

Interesting these items are coming out now.  This wouldn't be an attempt to whitewash Obama's criminality by his accomplices in the Media would it?

I know this will come as a huge surprise to some folks around here, but the NSA is not the slightest bit concerned about your barley legal gay porn subscription OR your cyber stalking habits, in general.

If you get on the blower with Muhammad Al-Jihadi from Pakistan, and the word "explosive" comes up a few times, the algorithm protocol might very well see that your conversation is flagged. You may...may even get a visit. So what? The NSA is not the enemy.

Bush / Cheney started the surveillance state PB.  Obama would probably like to switch it off but the NeoCons would probably ... well ... I shouldn't say what they're likely to do as that kind of speech is illegal.  Let's just say I think it's a safe bet that someone let Barack know that he is - in fact - "touchable".  Besides the Secret Service is really just a group of highly trained screw ups.

The guy who uses the IRS to suppress and intimidate his political opponents.  The guy who has 'a pen and a phone' and thumbs his nose at the Supreme Court, Congress, and Constitutional limits on the Executive Branch.  That's the guy who would probably like to turn it off - but he's too timid to do so?

And it's all Bushes Reagans fault

Oh, ok

So fake Indian Elizabeth Warren is at some college stumping for Al Franken in his Senate race.

She's up in front of a bunch of easily manipulated college kids, and bellows out "the game is rigged, and the Republicans rigged it".  No explanation of what was rigged, how it was rigged, or who exactly rigged it.  Of course.

You bitch.  You cunt.  You lying sack of shit.  This is so typical of the Democrats - constantly pouring raw sewage into our body politic.  Another lie with no substance, no real meaning - like insisting there is some 'war on women', or interjecting race into every single issue or event that comes up.  What a sick shabby pathetic Party they've become.

Keep in mind this is the same Elizabeth Warren that spent her career falsely claiming to be a Native American in order to get a leg up when applying for various positions.  I guess she figured Affirmative Action 'rigged' the game in favor of minorities, and decided to take advantage.

But there was at least one other corrupt UnAmerican scumball on that stage:   Al Franken stole that election 6 years ago:  Right out of the Al Gore playbook:  if you lose a close election, continue conducting recounts until you find a combination that puts you ahead, stop and declare victory.  If a few extra ballots need to be generated, well, the end justifies the means.

Can you imagine the reaction if a Republican official had been found out to have lied about their heritage in order to claim positions reserved for Native Americans?   Since it's a Democrat, it's written off as a misunderstanding and swept aside.  She even claims to be ethical and principled.

As far as a 'war on women', the same people who claim there is one and say they are against it have no problem attacking and smearing the Palin women, Michelle Bachman, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, and any of the others who stand up to them.  Since the D's need every woman voter they can get - the same way they need every minority voter - it is imperative there be no Conservative women or minority role models.  They MUST be destroyed.

By the way, where is the National Organization of Women when it comes to the treatment of Conservative women?  Or Muslim women?  Or women in China and other places enduring forced abortions?  Or poor minority women suffering under Liberal job destroying policies?   Nowhere, that's where.

It's just another slogan with no substance, meant to draw an emotional reaction.  The easiest thing in the world is for a politician to point to someone else and say the reason they're doing better than you is because they're screwing you over.  'Hey look, there's some man doing better than you, it's because there's a war on women'.

I would love to see these various tactics and the people who put them out there treated the way smoking and smokers are.

Ha, what bs. ECHELON?  PROMIS software deal, etc? What about CONTELPRO? ITT and ATT switches and later "special room"? CISCO routers and NSA? And so on...sadly the only issue is that the technology has sufficiently advanced to make such storage, data-mining, surveillance, etc cheaper. Almost all governments have tried same but until, relatively, recently it cost SO much to be effective. But now the costs have gone down, terrorism have made people not mind it, and especially because it has been sold and people WANT IT (facebook, google+, smartphones, etc.)

Sorry. I didn't realize your irony deficiency was so severe.

Hey, another Obama Denier out on the campaign trail.  I think he's the forth Senator/Senate candidate pretending to distance himself.  Too bad these folks aren't as careful and circumspect when they are back in DC 'just following orders'.

It seems strange to me the Leftists won't stand up and tell us what they believe and who they support - it's always about hiding who they are, and pretending to stand for things they don't.  Why is that?  The Conservatives are always proud to tell anyone what their principles are and where they stand on issues.

Boo-fucking-hoo.  The guy is a world-class hypocrite.  Abbot still collects about $200K/yr on a 30 yr old accidental injury ($6M to date) but as TX AG he supported tort "reform" that limits Texans' compensation for a similar injury today to a ridiculous $250K.  I'd say that if he foregoes further payment, she should drop the ad.

Damnit, you guys, this shit is nothing new.  Scads of congressional vermin distance themselves from their party leader during the second term.  Both damn parties do it.  It ain't just an Obama thing.  We could all trot out political ads that were offensive, dishonest, etc.  I get tired of people acting like "their side" is lily-white.

This is what we get when the margins are razor thin; campaigns going for the moron vote.  Anyone surprised that a partisan pol voted for his party's candidate is unlikely to be able to read a ballot.  It's stupid, but a win/win for campaign hacks; if they don't get a "He voted for Obama" sound bite for an ad, they get a "He's embarrassed that he voted for Obama" shot.  The Dems did the same thing in 06 and 08 to Repubs shamed by Bush.

I know you believe that.  It's the old 'they both do it' line.  No, neither has been lily white, but one Party is and has historically been much much worse.  Like I said, it's the same people who then turn around and tell everyone how much more 'evolved' they are than everybody else.

For 100 years the Democrats were the Party of Slavery.  For the Next 100 years they were the Party of Segregation and Jim Crow.  Using blacks to scare white people into voting for them.  Now they've flipped and use whitey to scare black people into voting for them.  They haven't changed at all.  The Ds are the ones who one day decided anyone who opposed them were Nazi's and Hitlers.  There was never an Alinsky in the Republican Party.  There is no equivalency here.

In which town are the R's trying to provoke a violent response, as a national get out the vote tactic, their equivalent of a Ferguson?

Here are a couple of Democrat ads circulating in black communities right now

Goldwater, Goldwater...wasn't he the guy who said nuking the Russians in defence of liberty was no vice?  No no wait, he's the guy who chose a running mate -- the man who would be a heartbeat away from the Presidency -- because "...he drives [President] Johnson nuts."  A choice for VP who ten years later appeared in an American Express "Do you know me?" commercial, he was such a non-entity.  And just to piss off Johnson?

Is that the stable constitution of the Barry Goldwater you're talking about?
