President John McCain - an alternate reality
« on: December 16, 2011, 05:45:38 PM »
people frequently say there's no REAL difference between candidates.  i disagree.  i think that had John McCain won that instead of leaving Iraq we would instead be expanding operations there and maybe even preparing operations against Iran.  reinstatement of the draft.  Obama is not the ideal candidate.  but given the alternative he was the best choice.  or read another way ... the lesser of two evils.  or more exactly ... the better of two shitty candidates

One thing that would've been different is I probably wouldn't still be alive as I would've blown my brains out if I had to sit through four more years of Republicans after one of the worst Presidential administration in history.

I honestly thought this was an alt-fiction parody thread:

To further derail the narrative:

Quote
...

The blistering heat of his broken hands interrupted his sleep yet again.  Those g-darn commies, I used to fly---

"Aw, pool Amulican, hands hult?" The snap of the bamboo re-education stick wakes him from the dream to full attention.

"Can rot fry, meow," Ho says as the gently throbbing pain subsides.

Still; he must, he aches, he needs a signal from DC.  If only Captain America had not spurned his advise, the nut would be cracked.

"Freedom is not free," he hisses.

Thinking of the carefully handcrafted flag that he shows to the other prisoners he kneels, in a gratuitous manner in the rotten one meter by one meter mud bricked cell that his captors can barely afford--

"So, you have plesidentiar aspilrations," Tovarish Minh slyly purrs.  "We can make use of that.  Gualds!"

The agony of his broken hands barely subsides before the welcome yet brutal beatings begin yet again.

I will wipe these Viet-cong from the face of the planet, Ted Turned-coat be damned.

His plan solidifies in his mind; he will not only break his captors, the redirection of this senseless proxy-war against the real communist aggressors will only make the path to presidency smoother.  As president he will control the prisoner-of-war scrip it will take
...

Whoa, I channel dark thangs...  This is not the plaice for weavers of tales, I apologize for delving into fiction in the politics forum/thread.

Yet I feel strangely comfortable fictionalizing thangs, mmmm

Zoiks!

I should call it "McCain: The Reconciliation"

The fighting was over, there were troops there to keep the peace while the Iraq government stabilized.

Had John McCain been elected, he wouldn't have made Hilary Clinton, then John Kerry Secretary of State.  There would be no ISIS, no ''Arab Spring'' where Mubarek fell and was replaced by terrorist front group for a year, a reformed and noninterventionist Khadafy would still be in Libya keeping the lid on things there, there would be no Boko Harem terrorizing the sub-Sahara, Syria would not have spun out of control creating the refugee mess and allowing Russa to enter the Middle East after all these years of being kept out, Afghanistan would not have fallen backwards.

I doubt very much China would have annexed international waters in the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and built fake islands for their military to occupy

North Korea would have been handled diffferently, and would not be threatening us now.

The government of Iran would have been further strangled economially instead of removing sanctions and giving them access to the western banking system.  He would not have greenlighted their nuclear weapons and ballistic weapons programs.

I'm sure John McCain would have made some bad decisions but he wouldn't have made these.  It's highly likely that his bad decisions would have paled in comparison.

I like to imagine a purely notional McCain presidency starting with a quickness an American flag in Saigon.

The one in Bahgdad is only notional...

There'd also be no Obamacare. We'd still have freedom to choose our doctors. Still be paying $100mo. For healthcare insurance. Not having to wait 3 months to see a specialist.

The recession would've been over by 2010 instead of going through 2016.

There'd be no Obama race war.

And we'd have our 1st female president, the 45th president of the United States Sarah Jefferson Palin.

Make America Great Again would never have existed because it wouldn't have been necessary.

I would like to go back to the alf-tan-fic:

Tough call: some people wouldn't have suffered as much, but he's decidedly against Russia.
Also, he's an active CIA operative that destabilizes most of the places he visits, so it certainly wouldn't have gone well for many of the world's citizens.
What I can say for sure? There would have been a lot less 'accidents' during the Osprey flight tests.
