The response time alone. I think I can get a pizza delivered quicker.
Yeah, she was lucky that she had an adrenaline shot for emergencies and that I was there. Nearest hospital was only 2mi away too. If you had a stroke or heartattack and had to wait that long, you're probably already dead.

Makes me paranoid living alone with my nearest relatives being 1700mi away - I keep my mobile phone within arm's reach as a result.

Well, they may be fake stats.  Do we know if it includes the costs of developing pharmaceuticals?  Nationwide medical school tuition?  R&D and manufacturing costs of new state of the art medical equipment?  Other countries don't spend nearly what we do on this, and we then educate foreign doctors and sell our products to the world.

A Democrat Fake News Media outlet, eager to champion a Euro-style nationalized healthcare system wouldn't think twice about plumping up the stats.  We just don't know what included.  What we do know is their bias, agenda, and untrustworthiness.

I think most people would be surprised to see the UK at #1, or even close, considering that the doctors keep threatening strike action and there are constant stories about junior doctors being overworked and how waiting times are getting longer and longer. Although, talking about fake news, some people say that these stories are being exaggerated so that the Tories can bring in the privatisation of the health service.

I don't know what it's like there, but if you go into hospital here you will find yourself in a ward with 8-10 other beds, the only privacy you get will be a curtain they pull round the bed when they come to do an examination. The food is terrible, to put it mildly. The doctors and staff do their best, but you are always aware of a general air of underfunding. You'll get treated, but don't expect there to be any money spent on fripperies. I don't know what criteria they were using to judge health care, but I always assumed that they were far ahead of us in Europe when it came to that kind of thing.

I find that the worst aspect of health care here is at the primary stage. GPs are often temporary and you feel like a number to be dealt with as quickly as possible rather than a human being. My mother's doctor ended up being struck off, first for corruption, then - after the doctor claimed she was being racially harassed at her clinic - they found that she was bloody useless at her job anyway.

Fake News

Fake news? I mean, it's a fake slogan being ascribed to him but is that really "news?" Regardless, it was already outed pages ago.  ;)

Fake News

A little late to the ballgame.  I was already corrected on it and I have no problem admitting I was wrong about it but carry on.  While Churchill did not say that, I think the statement is indeed true.

Fake News (the supposed Churchill qoute)

Some interesting bits in the linked article (at StandUpToHate) relating (and paralleling) directly to Trumpian times and tactics;

" . . . both the (falsely attributed) quote and the (similar earlier) news item (mid 1930s) are referring to false patriotism. They were stating that when fascism arrived in America or anywhere it will come under the disguise of people claiming to be patriotic to their country -- False flag wavers as we call them today (in England).

But the ignorant far right (in Britain) like the BNP* have taken this saying, claimed it was by Winston Churchill and use it to attack people (in Britain) who challenge them -- when in fact the saying and origin of the item relates to *them and their kind*, as _they_ are the false flag wavers who hide their fascist leanings with a so called *nationalist patriotism* that has nothing to do with being British.

Huey Long (original sourse-bed of the false quote) was warning about false flag waving traitors, who claim to be patriotic but are in truth the most un-democratic people in our society -- as their democratic falsehoods are built on prejudice, hate and superiority over others.** And this is the truth of this saying, and it has as much validity now as it did back then."

*British National Party (BNP) is a far-right political party in the UK.

Not surprisingly, a spin-off of the BNP (and formed c.2011 -- pre-dating Trump's sloganeering) is called "Britain First" (BP).  ;-)

**ideas echoed later in VP Henry Wallace's 1942 speech posted here a couple nights ago.

Meister, since you seem interested in history, you might explore the concept that the first Fascist government was actually in the US under Woodrow Wilson - racism, Palmer raids, jailing socialists, 4-minute men, etc.

History is full of dirt, humans are a dirty lot. By your logic a 21st century U.S. president should renact/legalize slavery again because, hey, slavery existed in America during the terms of it's first 15 Presidents, so why can't we do it too, and now. You people (Trump supporters) are pathetic defectives, a disgrace -- flat out -- each in your own way but "united" under a common banner "Dimwits for Donny" .

That describes you to a T.  You have no freaking idea that the majority of people outside your state voted for Trump.  You live in your own collective bubble.

21: > "I know you are, but what am I ?"

Math-check. No-one even disputes that HC won the popular vote (except, the subilluminated!).

I'm sorry 21, (sincerely), but you just proved my point, and in multiple ways.

Again, your reading comprehension fails you.  I stated that outside of your state, Trump won the popular vote.  With your state included, yes, Hillary won the popular vote.  However, our country uses an electoral system so large population areas don't control the country.  There is no point in campaigning everywhere if the only places that matter are the Northeast corridor and California.  Outside of those places, Trump won the popular vote easily. But go ahead, stay in your bubble.

The only president with a PhD, he must have been right, no?

I'm starting to think JJ is right and Meister is really theOne. No one's called me 21 except for him.

for christ's sake you idiot. What do wish to be called?  And this has been cleared up long ago (if it ever was taken seriously by anyone). Again, the slow ones.

You can call me Al.

You're just being infantile. You complain that I call you 21 but then refuse to say what you prefer. It _is_ un-nerving having to deal with a dozen adult-children-with-special-needs who don't know they are adult-children-with-special-needs every day here at Bellgab.

Why do you say that?  TheOne likes to roleplay.  Under the Meister guise, he's fervently anti-Trump.  Under another name, he would be a Trumptard.

Good ol' Woody Wilson and the original ''Progressive'' movement

They removed the impediment to a big central government by removing states influence in DC (17th Amendment), income taxes to fund it (16th Amendment), and a central bank (the Fed) to oversee it and bypass Congress.  They also gave us prohibition (18th Amendment).  Heady times for those who would build their own power and control us all.

Juan

Meister, I apologize for thinking you a non-imbecile.

What I noticed about you is that your knowledge of history is superficial and recently acquired.  The time you admit to spending "researching, writing and editing" tells me that this part of your education is sorely lacking.  Where as many of us on this thread can call to mind at least the essential facts of historical events without doing a whole lot of Googleing you seem to need to do a lengthy study just to understand what we're talking about as in the case of Henry Wallace.    You also seem unable to grasp clearly stated concepts nevermind fine points and nuance.  It seems that something has to be spelled out for you repeatedly before it dawns on you what you are being told. I'll bet that if you have ever taken a GRE test or something comparable you didn't score well.

You also have a habit of changing the topic and going to personal attack when you're are losing an argument as you have done in the above post.  A sure sign of an inferior mind.
