US Surveillance Drone Shot Down by Iran

A USN drone?  Could have been gathering target intel for a strike on Revolutionary Guard fast boat units involved in planting limpet mines on tankers.

As a minimum, cruise missile strike in the next few days?

Agree.  Trump expressed the belief that a local commander may have been responsible and it may not have been done with the approval of the Ayatollahs; however, the higher-ups are responsible for creating the circumstances under which an unprovoked shootdown could occurr.  There will be a kinetic response but I don't think it will be anything crippling.

So, Nervous Nancy is attending a briefing on the drone shoot down and possible responses, but she leaves before itís over to go to an event to promote gun grabbing. Despicable.

This is the new cold war.

Really? How do you figure? Cold usually implies no military action.

BBC News - US-Iran: Trump says military was 'cocked and loaded' to retaliate

Sounds like cruise missiles strikes against three sites were in the offing, but cancelled ten minutes before being launched. Will be interesting to see how that's read in Tehran, as a sign of good faith or as weakness.

Interesting that a strike was supposedly first on and then cancelled by the President after he asked about an expected death toll and was supposedly told about 150.

"...On Monday they shot down an unmanned drone flying in International Waters. We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, not proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone...."

I would have thought it would have been SOP for the military to provide that upfront as part of an expected damage projection. Why did the President have to pointedly ask a General about the expected death toll?  I can understand trying to get closer to a "tit-for-tat" response, since it was a drone that was brought down, and not a manned aircraft.

There are other things that can be done. Trump meets Xi soon. Maybe make it more difficult for China to get Iranian oil, thus strangling two birds at once?

Seriously?  Are you really citing horse shit churned out by Kremlin sponsored propaganda mills?  Suspicion confirmed--you are either a paid Russian troll or a useful idiot working for nothing.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda_in_the_Russian_Federation

"Shortly after the Beslan school hostage crisis in September 2004, Putin enhanced a Kremlin-sponsored program aimed at "improving Russia's image" abroad.[5] One of the major projects of the program was the creation in 2005 of Russia Today (now known as RT) an English language TV news channel providing 24-hour news coverage. Towards its start-up budget, $30 million of public funds were allocated.[6][7] A CBS News story on the launch of Russia Today quoted Boris Kagarlitsky as saying it was "very much a continuation of the old Soviet propaganda services".[8]"

Strange story.  How did a drone get to within a 1000 yds of a Gator, and why did the Boxer shoot it down as opposed to one of the escorts?  Will be interesting to hear how it was shot down.  MANPAD, maybe a Phalanx?

According to article (that will disappear behind a paywall if not a subscriber after viewing once,) emphasis mine:

"Officials would not specify the action taken, but one official said it was an electronic measure."

Not sure what system or what that entails. It also seems incongruous with the term "shot down," (if electronic hacking/laser/scrambling/EMP like CHAMP etc I would say "brought down.")
