WTF is wrong with you, brig? We had a guy keeping the Falkie thread alive and now you're giving him shit for maybe amusing us with videos until Falkie comes back?

Don't shit in your food bowl.

Fantastic detective work Inspector and a big congratulations on actually forming full sentences. You are sounding much less like Tarzan now.

Mind you, Damon works "in the aerospace industry."

Cough.

Rally Squirrel, why are you giving ErinnF YouTube advice? You must be joking, right? She's doing just fine without you. I dunno, maybe you think she's incapable of being successful without your input? It's desperate and creepy. Stop it.

Um, I never asked you to come back. I knew you’d be lurking so you would see my post. And look at that - you did!

For a pizza I will give you a shout out, sing your praises to the tune of “Oh Pretty Baby” while wearing a comically undersized to hat.

I had no idea this silver quarter thing was a thing.  It's quite interesting.
As R.S says- silver is pretty much done... But now there are people who do pennies and nickels. http://www.coinflation.com/coins/basemetal_coin_calculator.html will tell you that if you have $1 in pre 1981 pennies that the copper value in them is $1.97- so twice the face value.

Canadian nickels had (at one point) spiked to around .13 each- but nickel is cheap again, and the pre 1981 are back to around five cents.

Now, if you don't believe me that this is really a thing, then you can always head over to http://www.pennysorter.com/products/sorting-machines where you can purchase your own penny sorter for only $500...

Somebody should really tell Senda that he is wasting his time sorting rolls of quarters when he could almost guarantee himself around a 25% "profit" on every roll of pennies he goes through...  ;)

James The Lesser has said pennies were illegal to melt so I did a video about a penny press machine using it as an example of legally destroying currency.

He did comment with this "https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/coinflation-melt-value-768739 It IS legal to melt quarters and dime. Not pennies or nickels. It is also illegal to take more than 5 dollars worth of pennies out of the country. You really had me wondering if I was wrong because I could have sworn it was illegal to melt them down."

The link just states it is illegal and no actual law was sited so I am still in the belief that it is legal.

I apologize if I gave the impression that the goal is to melt them. At this point, the people who are serious about it stash them for the future. Kind of like nobody really melts junk silver anymore. They leave it in the form of 90% fractional silver- the argument is that leaving copper in a form that the average person can be assured of purity and weight is best. Melted bars cannot guarantee the purity like the US (or Canadian mint) did.

There are people who sell it- and I'm pretty sure that some people probably melt it and ship it as "manhole covers" (or the likes.) Most people who take the time to pull it out sit on it and argue that it is just like silver was in 1970- a hedge. The penny will be worth 1 cent in deflation, and inflation will spike it so that it is worth 5X as much (never mind that your average $25 boxes weighs a ton and are not nice and portable like silver- and it is more an industrial metal.)

When I was in the US, I was surprised to find how many actual copper pennies are still in circulation (a crap ton.) Up here they did away with the penny. I actually want to know how much the mint turned over to the government when they sold thousands of tons of copper on the open market. I'm betting it gave the government a nice slush fund.

In Canada, the mint actually runs the "alloy recovery program." They pull all of the nickel out of circulation. Why? To be sure that the government keeps the profit and the average person has no chance. They learned from allowing the common riff-raff and peons to profit from the silver coinage...

I actually find it disgusting that our government could not even let the possibility of a citizen find a coin with $3 of silver in it when they could vacuum it up. And they actually sold it by saying that Canadians would benefit by not having old change in our pockets (as though it was a great inconvenience to carry around nickel containing real nickel.) More to be found here on that program. https://canadiancoinnews.com/alloy-recovery-program-keeps-canadians-pocket-change-fresh/

If you are looking for a forum of people still searching rolls for silver as well as pennies and errors... https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=147
