Thread Zeppelin - Best "Band X" song, but by "Band Y"

Started by Camazotz Automat, March 05, 2017, 01:03:19 AM

Be as tongue in cheek or accurate or obscure as you want.  It's far from an exact science.

Best Zeppelin song ever: Barracuda by Heart.

Best Iron Maiden song ever: I Want Out by Helloween.

Best Conway Twitty song ever: Behind Closed Doors by Charlie Rich.

I have to believe that the three surviving members of the Peter Grant Fan Club are responsible for most of the 141 thumbs down that Stairway/Gilligan video received.

Best Steely Dan song: What a Fool Believes, Doobie Brothers
Best Talking Heads song: She Blinded Me with Science, Thomas Dolby
Best Blondie song:  Get Into the Groove, Madonna
Best AC/DC song:  Paradise City, G&R

I saw Bill Kirchen do this in a stinky little bar on a weeknight for an audience of maybe forty including the bar staff a year before he released this, and there wasn't a jaw that didn't hit the floor. Not only is he the envy of just about every prominent guitarist you can name, he's a gracious, consummate professional. The night I saw him, he gave it up like he was playing for a crowd of forty thousand.

This one caught me completely by surprise when I heard it a couple of years ago on my favorite comedy station, Demented Radio.

The Chiffon's "He's So Fine" done by George Harrison as "My Sweet Lord."

This isn't exactly in keeping with the theme of the thread, but at times it's hard to tell who's playing what and it is damned impressive.

This topic is evolving.  No longer bound by musical chains, effectively immediately, posts are not limited to bands or songs.

But the gist remains the same.... anything that has the notable flavor/influence of another.

Best Stephen King novel ever ... Thinner by Richard Bachman

Simply posting about Led Zeppelin also fits - by default of the thread's origin.

Heh.

The media seems to want me to go into hysterics about that, so I could not help setting up that pin.  Also, I winked.  :D
