Archive of Old Threads / Order or Chaos
December 07, 2008, 01:48:13 PM

Which works better for you and your "creative" self?  This pic is from a BBC article on "Creative Chaos"
The article is HERE.
To be honest - this office looks pretty orderly to me!

Archive of Old Threads / A Holiday Twist
December 04, 2008, 09:47:22 PM
Hey - who hasn't wanted to strangle a department store elf at least once in their lives? Got a "holiday" picture that doesn't fit our usual pictures of the holidays?

Someone just sent me this one, and it took me a moment or two but . . .

 . .like Productions.

Ian has his own "suck" list!

Oh no, it's not as major surprise.  No one gets to be as well known as he without their detractors.  Damn, no one knows who I am, and I have MY detractors.

But here you have it.

Archive of Old Threads / Wonderful Words!
November 26, 2008, 09:38:41 PM
We have had a number of posts on the English language and the mangling thereof. Since that trend started, the grammatical and style quality of my posts has gone down, down, down into the ultimate depths (mostly due to being busy and stressed)

So, my friends, to make amends, I'm starting this (hopefully) fun and educational thread on words, their origin, and their meanings.  ANYTHING to do with language (primarily English, since that is the common language here - but anything goes)

I respectfully request that:

You address one word at a time, unless the words are somehow related and you can explain that.

You feel free to question a word and its meaning as well as offer an explanation for one.

You not feel the need to be "fancy" -- any word you find interesting is fine. remember, Bill Clinton held up an entire nation with an argument over the word "is."

You ask/offer info on how the word evolved, as well as how it is used.

Modern and long-standing slang count.

Common phrases are as welcome as single words

Variations in spelling, grammar and punctuation are fair game.

Acronyms are also fair game.

Making fun of the entire topic is encouraged, but please, not to the detriment of the opportunity to share and learn (IOW - please don't allow your humor to kill the thread)

And, since our primary focus is English, please discuss the various idiomatic use of words in different regions. (Torch vs. Flashlight is one of my favorite examples - since I have a fear of being burnt, though not of fire itself.)

Please do include puns - but explain them if you think necessary and ask if you don't get it.

Okay then!  Let's have at it!

Should be Ian's every year - period.  End of sentence.

Here are the reasons:

Let's consider the two Georges.

George Noory?  'Nuff said.

George Knapp?  First rate investigative reporter.  No question.  However, this sort of topic isn't his personal pet, and I'd miss the passion.  Besides - Knapp himself praised Punnett's handling of the show.

So, WHY IAN?

Because he loves unsolved mysteries, and his pleasure in the topic translates to enjoyment for the listener.

Because he has a particular place in his mind and heart for conspiracy theories that actually have a potential for being unraveled.

Because he approaches this topic with the kind of sincerity and commitment that Art Bell approaches the topic of evidence for life after death.

Because he scooped the E. Howard Hunt deathbed confession story- which was then picked up by The Rolling Stone.

You may be a grassy knoll person.  You may be a single shooter person. The fact is that there are commissions OTHER than Warren, just as official and just as thorough, that came to the "conspiracy" conclusion.  CIA - related people other than Hunt have "confessed."  AND - there are documents which, though the US Supreme Court has said they should be released, are still sealed.

Therefore, questions remain, wherever the kill shot came from.

Last, I'll tell you that I asked Ian myself (he was doing the Tuesday chat at c2c) if he planned to do the JFK show again.  He said yes, when November 22nd next fell on a Saturday.  BOOOOO!!! HIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I'm sending email to all the powers that be related to c2c -and I hope you will too.

11/22 should ALWAYS be Ian.  (There is no other date I feel this way about.  None, in fact I'd rather he DID NOT do Halloween or New Year. He says himself it's not his thing.)

As opposed to absurd.

I'll start with this one, too lovely not to share.  Looks like a fantasy book cover but is actually a Hubble shot of some mammoth stars.  I don't know if it is enhanced in any way or not.

Sometimes funny, rarely interesting, often lame.  But that's me and my house.  This thread is for posting pics and opinions from the c2c site- OR - maybe it should go in Paranormal and be open for ANY pick ANYWHERE on the web?

What do you think?

To start - this person has caught the GN "is it an angel?" bug.  I dunno about YOU - but *I* say this is a bird - likely a duck or goose - at "take off" angle.

Archive of Old Threads / Randy Newman
November 15, 2008, 10:39:07 PM

I'm sitting here listening to one of Art Bell's blasts for the past.  He played a bumper I haven't heard in AGES.

SHORT PEOPLE
                     R. Newman

Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live

They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Round here

Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)

Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here

This is an oldie - but if you haven't seen it, you really should.
It's not my work - but I know enough about what it takes to do it (I COULD do it - but - um - no thanks!  LOL!) to know that the 40+ hours the remixer mentions is a CONSERVATIVE estimate and likely didn't include planning time.

And, that said, it's a fairly simple piece of Flash work  Getting the timing right would have been the hardest part.  But g'won!  click on the yellow.  It's FUN!

Archive of Old Threads / AH! To be young and in LOVE!
November 09, 2008, 10:02:18 AM
Or at least constantly horny.

I think I've told you all about the couple downstairs.  I really MUST finish moving my office area out of the bedroom and into the living room, where I'll be less apt to hear all the details. DAMN but they are loud!  Even Fred started his little annoyed "HrrrrUMPH!" noises in response.

10:15 am Sunday - and the noise from downstairs is - well - um - NOISY!

I wanted, so badly - to jump up and down on the bedroom floor and yell  "GO TO CHURCH YOU HEATHENS!!!"  (said the woman who is working on Sunday morning and not in church herself)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmwwwwahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Now, as for SpikeGirl's suggestion that I call the cops on them or "disturbing the peace" well - this is a small town - and I just KNOW that the first thing anyone who is on duty would do (particularly since it just as likey to be quiet by the time they arrive as not) is come to MY place to discuss the problem.  And, well, I DON'T WANNA!

Besides - THEY could then report ME for "disturbing the piece"    ;:)

"Canine Freestyle" IS actually a real sport.  It's a subset of Agility in the dog-show ring.  But this team brought it mainstream - and impressed the hell out of everyone.

By the way - this breed of dog is the only one that consistently outscores the poodle in intelligence (sorry MV - it's TRUE)  The thing is - they have so much energy, you have to be able to keep up with them, AND you have to watch out they don't work themselves to death - because they WILL given the chance!

To come up with something more twisted than this without violating the TOS.  (GOD KNOWS I MAY HAVE ALREADY!)

And - to get the most from this - you

1) must have volume on and

2) must read what a TRAINER has to say about it below the vid.

Contrary to a popular misconception this is NOT dominance. The clitoris is kind of like the penis, in that it gets a slight erection and is very sensitive. Exciting it causes a gland in the upper portion of the inside of the vulva to produce lubricating fluid. Mild pressure on the vulva is kind of like masturbation to the woof, but woofs need something to rub up against to feel stimulated, thus we have "knee humping."

"Portals" "Angels" and "Demons" are too easy - and there is the issue of alcohol poisoning.   So how about this:

Anyone who has the stomach to listen to Gorge mangle Ghost to Ghost tonight - take a shot every time he says "I hate clowns" or any variation thereof.

At the moment, I'm trying to put my new computer onto the internet.  I can't seem to gt it networked no matter what. I called my ISP (Comcast) they put me over to Lynksys (my router brand) and after keeping me on hold while the scarified yet another goat to Ghonish - this guy "Shawn" (Yeah, and my name is Salome) they told me they won't give me tech support for a perfectly good router becuase it over a year old (HORRORS!  an 18 month old router!) and I have to pay another $30 and then they PROMISE they will tell me how to  make it "like new"

I'm loosing work time, school time and santy trying to do what SHOULD be obvious.  Configure the PCs - stick the cables where they belong, and boot up.

No dice.

Any ideas?  Or do I have to help play for the goat heard?

My router is a WRTP54g  which at the moment I am used WIRED - not wireless.

Plus a very nice wide screen on which I can CALIBRATE the colors - Bose speakers, and AT LAST a UPS to deal with the-all-too common New England Brown-Out cycles.

I'll be setting it up this weekend.

I got a much better deal than this page suggests.

Paranormal - Conspiracy - UFOs - Etc. / Curtis
October 07, 2008, 11:56:41 PM

So far, tonight, the show is GOOD.  George hasn't had much opportunity to talk. And, what he has said has been reasonably cogent. (for George, anyway)

First Hour: Analyst John M. Curtis comments on current events.

Curtis has a brain.

The best moment - so far - was the caller who opened with something to the effect of "Hi, George, I miss Art."

However - we are about to move on to Nostradamus a la John Hogue.

Nothing good is forever.
