if you go to Michael's Dec. 2, 2016 show on YouTube, fast forward to the 23 min. mark.  He makes an interesting remark.  Not certain if he's referring to Art though.

I remember a number of years back hearing Savage say that he never wanted to broadcast late at night and talk about ufos etc. because he didn't believe in any of that stuff.  Can't really say if he was referring to Art, tho.

That's quite a unique product, for sure.  Paraffin based, I would assume.  Hard to clean up?  That girl is Pamelyn Ferdin who played lots of 'older kid' rolls throughout the seventies.  And of course, that man is George Fenneman, Groucho's sidekick on You Bet Your Life.

Those little old hardscrabble miners bowling?  Seriously, can this town get any more charming?

Haha.  I had to look up the 'Brunswick-Balke-Collender alley' thinking that they might have been fancy enough to have automatic pin setters, but no, not until 1936.  I did come across this interesting article though...here is a quote from it:

“The man at the counter reserved your bowling ball, checked your coat and had your favorite cigar rolling on a machine,” Zainea recalls. “He rented you bowling shoes and took yours to polish while you bowled. He cleaned and blocked your hat while you bowled and served as your bookie, too.”

http://americanprofile.com/articles/bowling-alleys-of-america/

I was somewhat surprised that Brunswick-Balke-Collender offered more than bowling related products.  Bar fixtures, radios and phonographs?  Who would have thunk.

THE GIRL IN THE CASE DIED AND THE MAN GOES FREE

The eyes of Bill Bowler, veteran detective sergeant, were suspiciously misty as he spoke of the death of 17 year old
Katherine Beatty today. Bowler tracked down and caught the man who enticed Katherine from her home in the little town of Moberly, Mo. The man was John Cochrane. He poses as a vaudeville actor,
Before she died the girl told Bowler that Cochrane had painted a rosy picture of life in the big city. When she came here with him he first debauched her, she said, and then sent her out on North Clark street to get money from men. The first week she said she turned over $60 to him. Then he was arrested for violation of the white slave law. But the government can't punish him now. Katherine would be necessary as a witness. And Katherine was buried today by her school friends in the little cemetery among the hills that surround Moberly. The doctors say her death was caused by her experiences in Chicago.

BUTLER THEATER

Another crowded house cordially greeted Miss Neilsen when she stepped upon the stage, beautifully gowned, last evening, and rendered in her pleasing manner numbers all of which were more than well received. Miss Neilsen responded good naturedly to the several enthusiastic encores. This popular little Prima Donna will make her last appearance this evening in an entire change, using for her selections "As Through the Street," from La Boheme; "Kiss Me Again," from Mile. Modiste, and a little surprise in two voices.
The picture program will consist of Burton Holmes travels, "A Scotch Irish Reel," and Mae Murray in "Sweet Kitty Belalrs." Following her triumph as star in the production "To Have and to Hold."
Tomorrow, Mollie King and Arthur Ashley In "The Summer Girl," a Sidney Drew comedy, and Miss Marie Neilson in vocal selections. Do not miss the big special seven reel art photodrama, "Purity," on Friday, a picture that is crowding all the big
first class theaters in the cities.

NEW BOWLING ALLEY

Chris. Sorensen is preparing to provide for Tonopah people a place of recreation such as the town has long needed. He will open a bowling alley in the Wood-Sullivan building in a few days. Under direction of H. Arnold, two standard Brunswick- Balke-Collender alleys have been installed and four modern pool and billiard tables. A soda fountain and light lunches will be features of this establishment.
