So that big baller French virologist, the doctor in NY, the Hawaii Five-O dude, the censured Michigan Congresswoman and the Turks say that the  dirt cheap Malaria drug, Zinc and antibiotic cocktail works to protect the lungs.  The NIH says not to use it.   On the other hand the NIH says the whiz bang new anti-viral is looking promising. Not sure what a dose of a whiz bang new anti-viral costs but I'd imagine a pretty penny.   Sure hope the NIH knows what it is doing.

Plus the new one is only available through an IV.

Yes it would, but I'll also tell you this: I've had flu about 10 times and NOT ONCE have I presented myself to be counted.

Thank you for continuing to make my point.  Numbers for the flu are a mathematical model.  Numbers for COVID are actuals based on very limited testing.

..and you think that is somehow not also true of COVID?

I tell you thisâ€"if I got symptoms I wouldn't present myself at the gates of medical hell. I'd take my chances at home with my family. Then of course, if I recovered (which is statistically likely) I wouldn't be a  statistic, would i?

My point being that ALL numbers being used for COVID are based on positive test results. Well except for maybe the 3000 deaths NYC added in without test results.  That’s how you came up with a statistically correct, yet meaningless statistic.

Don't weasel out of it. How many people would you consider an acceptable death rate for life to continue the way you want it? You've been banging on about this for weeks but when I try to pin you down all I get is Trumpian waffle. Talking about traffic accidents is a fatuous analogy because it's an isolated incident. One traffic incident on one street doesn't lead to one two blocks away, but you could start a chain of infections by one unnecessary journey.

For a nice round figure, let’s go with 1%. Concentrated on the elderly, obese, and sickly.  Just like life as we have known it.

Mortality flu: 1%
COVID-19: 7%

The numbers thrown about for flu statistics are always just estimates. Some people get tested for the flu but most do not.  It is never for confirmed cases of the flu.  The numbers being used for COVID always use confirmed cases. Once this is better understood as far as asymptomatic cases, probably through random antibody testing and extrapolation, Kung Flu numbers will be less than 1%.  You are only seeing a death rate against confirmed cases.

So, you pretty much follow the Fox News party line eh? Hannity would be dead chuffed if he knew he had a disciple on Bellgab.

As for me, I go by my local teaching hospital, I see a huge parking lot turned into a field hospital annex, and I think to myself "This is more than flu." I look at the rates of increase and I think "This is more than flu." I see on TV how overworked and underequipped hospital doctors & nurses are, and I think "This is MUCH more than flu."

Open air treatments seemed to be the most effective method of dealing with the Spanish Flu.

No, apparently the key is to inject yourself with bleach. I've been sceptical about these nostrums in the past but I really think you should give this one a shot.

Did you ever gargle with Listerine?  The stuff that claims to kill 99% of germs?

Sounds an awful lot like placing a disinfectant into the body.  But I’m not a doctor.

And if the virus adapts, as viruses can do, and starts hitting younger people? I think we're better off leaving these decisions to people with actual expertise. People throw around this idea of herd immunity too lightly.

Getting herd immunity quickly, before the virus mutates into infinite variations, then is the key to eradication. Amirite?

Indeed.  Following that logic, with the price per barrel of oil going to negative numbers, they’re going to have to bury that too.  Has anyone ever pumped oil back into the ground?

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/04/negative-oil-prices-covid19

They pump it back into the ground all of the time. Into salt domes. That’s how they maintain the strategic petroleum reserve. Trump has been trying to fill it up with cheap oil but the demoncrats blocked the funding.  It would have been less than $4billion to top it off.

Oh good.   An army of 20,000 Danish Hams can land amphibiously and hit them from behind in the Baltic as you launch your frontal assault.   Down with Carl Gustaf!

The Danes have softened way too much. They will, however, supply tulips and butter cookies to both sides.

China needs to be held accountable period end of discussion. They should be removed of the G7. The fact they are trying to tell the Middle East this is America’s fault is a real issue. There is no pretending they are a friend.

Funding small business is not something that should used as bargaining. Fund the damn program.

Also giving money to  small business is not somehow against libertarian ideal. If the government is forcing a business closed the closed business deserves to be compensated.

China is not a member of the G7.

I agree with your sentiments about the small businesses but I struggle with the implementation.

The federal government didn’t shut down a single business.  The states did. When the federal government rushed through the CARES Act there were too many opportunities for companies that weren’t even closed down to take advantage of it.  Hedge fund managers, government contractors and law firms with less than 500 employees for example - they kept operating for the most part because they could, or in the case of government contractors were directed to telework.  These companies took advantage of the loans/grants which, to me, is an abuse of the program.  It should have been limited to businesses that were actually negatively affected and the grant portion should have been limited to proven actual losses in regular revenue.  Being made whole is one thing No business should be profiting from the shutdown unless they are providing essential services.

I think you're right about George working hard. I remember a show where he talked about filling in at the last minute for the times when Art Bell, who I guess was the original host of Coast to Coast, couldn't do the show for whatever reason.

George said he never turned down an opportunity to host the show. He described wrapping up his own Night Hawk show in one studio, then running down the hall to another studio to do Coast to Coast with very little prep time. I thought that was pretty impressive!

I also remember him saying that on Night Hawk, he had to be his own ad salesman. I used to wonder if this is why Coast to Coast has so many oddball advertisers, such as companies that I never hear about anywhere else.

He didn’t do a bad job with those fill in shows.  His 8 hours of show prep must be his secret into fucking up the current ones.
