That's called proper security. You really should not get yourself all caught up in the narrative.

Is that why he was left unprotected to be a juicy target for the ten seconds he spent leisurely descending the stairs before being hurried into the safety of the presidential limo?  That means that if there was a serious threat to security, his Secret Service detail definitely took its time before worrying about it.

I'm talking about before he was president.

You're right. It's impossible to imagine any politician getting lucrative book deals before being elected president. It just doesn't happen. If you don't believe me, ask Sarah Palin.

Poltergeist on TCM, and it's nice to see the uncut version with the scene where the parents are casually getting baked before retiring. Basic cable stations caved in to political correctness and edited it out twenty or more years ago, although when the movie was released it didn't generate much controversy because it was consistent with the times. If it had taken place today, the movie would have ended before the angry spirits had a chance to arrive, because the parents would have been arrested for child endangerment and the kids would have wound up in the dreaded System.

You are wrong.  He and Michelle have gotten many sweetheart deals from jobs to placement on important boards to book deals and it wasn't small potatoes.  If It weren't so late I would itemize them for you.  Maybe tomorrow.

Name a former POTUS who hasn't. It's one of the perks of the job. I don't care for the practice, and wish I had the authority or super power to stop it, along with every other corrupt political practice. However, please feel free to itemize the ways he has possibly profited illegally in any way if you feel like it tomorrow.

Whatever else anyone thinks about Obama, he's never been accused of financial corruption,* or of being anything other than a devoted husband and father whose morals are beyond reproach. He deserves some credit for that at least.

*Yes, I'm aware he got a sweetheart deal on a house early in his political career, but that's not even small potatoes in Chicago. It's a small bag of potato chips. If that's the worst thing he did, he's the cleanest president in history.

Did he say that last night? I dozed off sometime during the last hour, and missed the end, but I haven't been able to find anything online. I hope it's not true.

I'll let you know if we get there.  After Bush, Clinton, Bush II, Obama, a Hilary scare, and the alternatives, the bar's pretty low.  Not that any of our opinions matter anyway.

Not to mention Andrew Johnson and Warren Harding. Forget moral and ethical equivalencies, because everyone who holds elected office should be held to the highest possible standards without exception. You have strong opinions about almost everything, so to say that you have to wait until "we get there" before you reach your tipping point calls for decadent quantities of butter and real maple syrup.

I'm no big Trump fan.  This election offered us two lousy choices, imo.  Mrs Clinton was flat out unacceptable, which left Donald Trump.

I've never liked Trump as a person.  The loud New York belligerent attitude.  Dumping trophy wife after trophy wife.  The constant need for attention.  The general comments he's made over the past 20 years, or however long he's been around.  I never watched his TV show but the ''you're fired'' lines in commercials for it were pretty obnoxious.

He's certainly no Constitutional Conservative, so he's not going to be someone whose policies are always going to dovetail with mine.  Same goes for this Congress.  I expect to be opposed to a lot of what he and they do.

But so far I like most of his cabinet picks.  He is at least talking about some of the problems this country has that have been ignored for a very long time.

Sure, he's not slick and polished.  He clearly doesn't spend time with focus groups deciding what to say each day.  I wish he'd quit tweeting and let his spokespeople do their jobs.  He doesn't need to be responding to every slight.  I wish he had a different personality and temperament.  I really hope he doesn't go the way of Arnold Schwarzenegger - ineffective blowhard dunce, that's been my fear all along.

I do like the fact that he isn't a lifelong politician.  I'd like for him to be successful, if for no other reason than it would encourage other non-politicians to run for office.

I wouldn't have undone the regulation about dumping coal waste into streams, but I'm not convinced that's really the case since it came from the fake news crowd.  Obama left a mess with Russia, Iran, ISIS, the whole Middle East, global terrorism, China, and North Korea.  There are no good choices to choose from on most of these issues now, which means he's left with only bad choices to choose from.

As far as immigration, I would allow people brought here as children to stay, along with those who have jobs and aren't taking public handouts.  I like a Muslim ban.  Islam simply is not compatible with democracy.  He needs to deal with both issues smarter, but again, he was left with a mess.

It shocks me, but doesn't surprise, that the Rs in Congress don't have healthcare reform, tax reform, regulation reform, education reform, crime reduction, etc, legislation ready to roll out.  What have they been doing all these years they were bitching about Obama?  These are all messes Trump apparently needs to lead on, and seems willing to do so.

None of this is his fault.  It's a lot, and the vested interests from the losing side are purposefully in the way instead of offering legitimate advice and help.  All of which means I'm with him, for now.

What would he have to do to make you not be with him? Asking for several friends.

Well, again, these are Fake Statistics.

This is much easier to manipulate than, say, even voting polls, as this is much more subjective.  Selection of topics.  Selection of comments made on topics.  Deciding what was the ''truth'' about something in the first place, then deciding whether what each person said was the ''truth'' or a ''lie''.  In the case of Pud's statistics, deciding what's ''provably'' true or false.  Is each instance considered a new lie, or is an eight year long lie counted as ''one''.  They don't say.

Note also, the size and importance of the lie is completely omitted, i.e., how damaging is it to the country.  The lies about Benghazi or the Iran deal dwarf anything Trump has said, for example, but in these statistics they are given equal weight.

Since we've never even seen statistics on this until now, can we not assume they were created to reinforce the narrative these folks wanted to put out in the first place?  Wouldn't that suggest they are going in with the notion they are going to ''prove'' their narrative (that Trump lies about more than Obama)?  Doesn't make that make them highly suspect?

Then a Trump hater sees them and selection bias kicks in.  ''Hey look, this agrees with what I've been told by the Democrat Fake News Media, where I get all my information, so it must be true.  No critical thinking required''.

I can't believe I actually have to explain this to people.

And your passionate, indefatigable devotion to such a thankless, frustrating task is admirable.

I like that also. I like all the old ads and sometimes they are funny or allude to the politics etc of the era which is interesting. Jack Webb was a smart guy, able to transition between media and build an empire of good shows.

It looks like he smoked whatever brand Liggett and Myers was paying him to endorse at the moment. i like how he boasts about smoking two packs of Chesterfields a day! I knew he was smoking that extra pack of Fatimas himself and not passing them out to his friends.

Yeah, and is pretty reliable with their broadcasting and nice music fill in before shows. It is one of my top favorites on my app. But, be warned:
"Warning: ABN contains historical cigarette ads. Please take responsibility for your own tobacco use.
ABN is a proud supporter of plant life and donates all carbon dioxide from it's electrical use and it's owner's exhaling toward plant well-being." <--- especially during Dragnet

I really appreciate him preserving the episodes by not editing out the cigarette ads. I like the ones Jack Webb did for Fatima cigarettes, in which he talks about how he never goes out without an extra pack in his pocket so he can turn his friends on to the great taste. Sure you did, Jack.  ;D

I found this station a couple of years ago, and it has the best variety of shows of any OTR station I know about. A lot of the episodes include the commercials, which are interesting little time capsules on their own, and whenever possible the owner plays shows that originally aired on the same date.

They'll use anything to advance toward their ultimate goal - a Left-wing, Fascist, One-World government, run by them.

Pretending to be for states rights, secession, free speech, free trade, environmentalism, gay rights, freedom of the press, minority rights, religion, Islam, refugees, immigration, the Constitution, free (fill in the blank) for all.  At other times being against these things when it suits their purposes.

They don't mean any of it, it's all just means to an end.  Whatever they have to say, whoever they have to appeal to for votes, for legislative action, for regulation to be written by government agencies, to win court rulings.

Sometimes I think people are catching on to it, other times I realize half the voters voted for Hilary Clinton.

This sounds like something Eeyore would say after a a week of binging on Wild Turkey, crank, and barbiturates at Sturgis, and I mean that in a good way.

The leaders among them think they'll be the elites in their New World Order.  The losers they've recruited to be the lackeys creating chaos at their riots don't know any better, have learned a few slogans to repeat, and think they're sticking it to the man.  The toadies and followers have no idea what's going on.

They all believe ''the rich'' are always the rich, the poor are always the poor, and there is no dynamism between groups. That most people are statistically categorized as ''poor'' when they are starting out in life (they have no assets or income when fresh out of school), then build wealth over a lifetime and have a much greater earning capacity after gaining skills and experience is beyond their comprehension.

Yep

This is just a hunch, but I have to believe you've been called a lot things in your lifetime and "life of the party" has never been one of them.

I saw the first new episode at a special screening in Chicago last night, and it exceeded all expectations. The new cast gets it and knocked it out of the park!  They and Joel were there and took questions after the movie. Unfortunately, everyone was sworn to secrecy about the movie, and we even had to sign NDAs, which I'm going to honor so I can't say much other than it's a very cheesy giant monster movie. I think the fans of the original are going to be very happy with the reboot.

Ah, the old Bellamy Salute! Fun times. Interestingly, the country to the immediate, and some others, south of our open border uses same for certain ceremonies and when taking official positions. Of course, the gesture has a long history and those folks related it more to Rome and Spanish history than the socialist Pastor. Or, other socialist, Hitler. But still interesting.

There are a lot of people who think the Pledge is one of our sacred founding documents who would be surprised to learn about its socialist origins.
