*nix-based OSes still reign supreme. OS X and Linux are just great fun and practical to use.

My gamertag is Selenolycus

Anyone else here have CoD: WaW or GoW2?

I know of someone on another site who said that she called into the show and was triple screened before she was allowed on with the Snoron. Tommy was very nervous and kept asking her what she was going to say. She had a UFO story to relate.

Hmm, did the call-screening start after Clear Channel took-over, or what? I'm not too clear on the history. Triple-screening is pretty intense. "Open lines" my ass.

Well, um, maybe we should have an organized call-in sometime one night and see if any of us can get through to express the message (in a polite way, mind you), since calls are screen we'd have to be devious at first, but it'd be an interesting experiment at least.

Anyone want to organize?

i would recommend that you ditch the porn star idea and consider finding a woman from morocco.  since morocco is among the most liberal islamic cultures in the world, i don't think this is so far fetched.

i know you're jewish, and the incongruity at first glance might seem overwhelming, but hear me out.

first, they are some of the most beautiful women on this planet.  however, i'm partial to ANY woman with dark skin.
second, they are among the most loyal.
third, they are among the most feminine.
fourth, they are easy to please.
fifth, they enjoy pleasing their husbands.
sixth, they have a strong moral center.
seventh, they are very strong women and possess an unusually potent desire to succeed in a capitalistic system.  the entrepreneurial spirit can be very difficult to find in a woman.
eighth, they enjoy it when a man acts like a man rather than feeling threatened or disgusted by it.
ninth, they are tough and aren't afraid to kick your ass when you need it.  helps to keep you on the right track.
tenth, they believe in having sex with their husbands as a matter of spousal duty, not as a matter of reward as if you're some puppy who didn't shit on the floor while the owners were gone.

umm... i'm out of reasons.

i find any woman who possesses these characteristics to be far sexier than any porn star.

Is your wife Moroccan or something?

...You mean like John Book Amish?  And I know someone who totally feels the way you do about Quakers and the stuff they believe in.......

...but truthfully, I do sometimes find myself, like you, thinking that the Amish have the right idea. But then again sometimes I think the Humungus, Mighty Wez, and The Dogs of War from The Road Warrior have a neat little racket going too. The duality of man, I guess.

I don't really follow whatever it is you're saying (if you're really saying anything at all).

For the record, I have no theological agreements with Quakers or the Amish, but their non-coercive lifestyles and typical non-aggression I deeply admire. They're people who seem to have a grasp on the idea of Liberty.

something interesting about islam is that the koran has never been edited or revised in any way.  as a matter of fact, if you have a copy of the koran that is translated into any language other than arabic, it's not considered to be a copy of the koran.

This is a somewhat dubious claim often made. There's the Qira'at (the readings, or seven readings of the Qur'an) and there's no original text. Further, the average Muslim cannot fully comprehend the Qu'ran as he either: a) is not an Arab (the majority of Muslims are non-arab), and Arabic therefore is not his native tongue, b) the Arabic of the Seventh Century is not the Arabic of today, and unless an Arab was taught about the Qur'an and Qur'an Arabic he really can't read it - this may be

Quotemy biggest beef with christianity has always been the willingness of its practitioners to modify and revise the supposed word of god in order to appeal to the changing times in which we live.

I think this is true of most religions. Jews and Muslims don't always practice what their books preach, and they interpret verses that suit them how they wish, or ignore them altogether when convenient.

Quotedoesn't the bible say it's against god to be gay?  i'm just throwing this out there, but i believe i've read that little part in the bible about men who lay with men and women who lay with women.  so how could people believe that they can be gay and christian when the bible clearly says this is not permissible?  i'm not saying people will go to hell for being gay.  i AM saying, however, that christianity is weak and virtually nonexistent because of the willingness of self proclaimed christians to move the goal post of what god supposedly is or isn't ok with.

i don't know of any gay mosques.  christianity in 2008 is weak, weak, weak.

Better weak than fundamental. You really want Puritans running-about in droves?

I like the Quakers, I think they have the idea right (Nixon doesn't count). Them and the Amish.

i guess my hope of him doing his own show independently via knye is kapoot.

Yeah, I don't see why he can't do something even sporadic as a podcast where he'd interview former guests for around an hour or so. That'd allow him a lot of flexibility with his family, and could still give something more to his fan-base, though that would take the open lines aspect out (which I think a lot of you like), but it could be implemented in other ways... maybe if he got a bit tech savvy and used Skype, hell, maybe record ham radio sessions. v_v

could you elaborate on how that would play out technically?

Not really, as I don't entirely follow what you mean. I'm not a programmer, I just know that it's taken the people at Wine a long time to reach version 1.0. It can wave its flag now that it supports Photoshop CS2 out-of-the-box, but that's a year's old program. It's uncertain how long it will take for CS3 to be supported out-of-the-box, and I'm only using Photoshop as an example.

Programs like GIMP will have to eventually become entirely level with PS.

ReactOS is in its infancy afaik, audio support isn't out there yet. It's totally developer-oriented atm.

perhaps the reactOS project will one day become mature enough that this all becomes irrelevant.

More likely Linux will become popular enough that Windows becomes only another player in the game.

The problem with ReactOS (and Wine, which is the basis of an enormous portion of its code) is that technologies like DirectX are quite complex and MS can change things quite easily to break Wine intentionally if it chooses to do so. Eventually, free software will become dominant, or equal to proprietary software. It may be a decade or two away, but it's bound to happen. Linux is a mature enough product and once its setup on a computer anyone can use it for the basic e-mail, web, chat tasks, and it can still do so much more for people wanting more. The problem is getting it out there.

Once people realize they can save ~$80 using a product that will do everything they'd use in Windows they'll start picking it. FreeBSD, Linux, whatever. The front-ends will all be more or less the same. Proprietary software is destined to fail.

Archive of Old Threads / Re: Bumper Music
June 30, 2008, 04:45:14 AM
Eh, this thread has gotten derailed big-time.

Why do people feel the need to say a particular group's music sucks? Taste in music is so subjective. Appreciate what you can, make suggestions to others, but let others enjoy what they enjoy, don't ridicule them for it. From my perspective, the Stones have had some good licks, so have the Beatles. Though less so than bands like The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd, The Beatles were more an album band than The Stones, and I like that. I think they were actually pioneers on that front. Lots of Beatles singles can stand on their own, but tracks from Rubber Soul are distinct from tracks in Sgt. Pepper's etc. Their albums weren't dependent on a single or two from the album.

For the record, I didn't recognize a single Stones album the OP mentioned. I only know Stones tracks. I think the influence of both bands was enormous. Floyd, Nirvana, Queen, and even The Stones (who covered a Beatles track, so I guess they thought they weren't that terrible) all were influenced by The Beatles, and all those bands influenced a lot of bands today.

To each their own, though.

I think if the OP wants to get rid of the bumper music he can scour the torrent sites that already host a good deal of C2C music, or subscribe to Streamlink and DL it himself, and then remove the bumper music via audio editing software such as Audacity, and stream himself.

Removing bumper music from the stream would not only diminish my interest, but would be an enormous chore for Michael.

There's like, what, a whole six minutes worth total of bumper music per show? Lower the volume and read something while it plays if it bothers you that much. If you don't want to listen to it, record the streams yourself, get your own audio sources, edit them, and play them as you wish.

You'll be doing yourself and people who share your viewpoint a favor.

The bumper music if part of the atmosphere, and can often appropriately reflect content of the show.

wow... you really had my ego going until that bit at the end.

basically, the reason why i don't upload it now is multi faceted.  first, why would people bother to listen to the stream if the whole damn thing was up for download via a torrent tracker?  also, i didn't want to do it because in the past, premiere radio had left me alone to do my thing without causing any problems for me, and i didn't want to spit in their face by uploading my entire collection via torrent.  however, times are changing, it would seem.

I used to run radio streams, actually DJed for one a couple of years back that was hardy rock/metal oriented, and it averaged between forty-eighty listeners at any given moment. Not sure what you get with Streamer, though I'm pretty sure your shoutcast got well over 100. All that music people heard could DL in MP3 format if they wished. Songs that were played were played multiple times, and still people listened.

Anyway, a lot of people will listen because they either

a) Don't want to download or deal with a huge torrent, such as EvB
b) Happen upon it, and might like C2C, but not enough to download a whole bunch of reruns, etc.

I know you're under no obligation to please anyone here, your sharing of your library puts you at legal risk. But, I simply don't have internet access 24/7 and it's something I enjoy listeing to.

If you're reluctant to share your entire library, even a 'best of' Coast to Coast compilation would be nice (I have no idea how large your entire library is, mind you), or something along those lines. Perhaps if you go to Icecast or Peercast or something like that I'll just make my own recordings of the streams.

I'll end this post by saying thanks for the time you've put into your site and into your stream. Before happening upon it I thought Coast to Coast was always as it is today, a huge mixed box ranging from utterly boring nonsense to fairly interesting things, whereas it used to be a box of much more interesting interviews and discussions, though ranging from some ridiculous people like "the witch lady," there were a lot of genuinely good conversations.

yes, anybody can broadcast on streamer.
secondly, if i were ever completely forbid from streaming the shows because of a couple greedy asshole suits with nothing better to do, then i would, in that circumstance, upload my entire library via bittorrent.

Not trying to pressure you or anything, but what's stopping you from doing it now?

I rather enjoy listening to the older broadcasts, but even on a Windows machine I find Streamer.exe to be quirky/unreliable. Just saying, if you were to decide to share your library, it'd be quite nice.

Is she the most annoying guest, ever?

I'll answer for: yes.

I don't listen to C2C for pseudo-numerology astrology BS. I don't really mind George, but guests like this... shit.

Radio and Podcasts / Art Bell's FCC Stance
June 23, 2008, 02:56:26 AM
I've heard Art Bell call himself a Libertarian and he's a member of the LP, but one major disagreement I have with his politics is his stance on the FCC regulation of obscenities. On onee of the shows he talks about it, it airs on the UFOship reruns, and he says that he supports the regulations (at least partially) because obscenities don't contribute to the quality of discussion/etc.

However, in my mind, from a Libertarian perspective, that is irrelevant. Using four letter words every third word spoken doesn't make a contribution to discussion, but in a dramatic performance or a passionate outpouring there is simply nothing that can replace an 'obscenity.' You know this if you've ever watched a movie on television to find 'obscenities' bleeped-out or replaced with a milder form, and find the impact of the original dialogue is totally lost and downright stupid, something no one would ever say in real life in a given situation.

It comes down to a matter of Freedom of Speech. The First Amendment wasn't made to protect popular speech, but unpopular speech that people may disagree with, be it for political reasons or pseudo-ethical ones.

What say you?

i'm not sure what you mean by "share them with streamer."  please elaborate.

Well, Streamer.exe seems to be open (I don't know its homepage, but I see several available streams for it), so it's possible for anyone to stream on it, no?

Also, have you considered sharing your Coast to Coast AM archive via some p2p service, or there is too great a legal risk for you to do that?

I use Ubuntu on my desktop (have XP installed for games), OS X on my MacBook. I like OS X and Linux a lot more than I do Windows. I rather dislike using Windows, and I mostly find Linux and OS X a pleasure to use. They have their faults, but they aren't awfully significant.
#21
Seeing as how streamer is P2P software, I think those that use it should make our own personal recordings, and share them with Streamer if the current host ever gets shutdown.
#22
I would like to see some context on some of these quotes, just because, you know, I really can interpret a large number of them in a few different ways.
#23
I don't think people such as Browne belong on the show at all. They're no more interesting than Pat Robertson, and no more accurate or decent.

Archive of Old Threads / Second Favorite C2C Host
April 09, 2008, 10:22:13 PM
I thought I'd start this, in contrast to the other one, which will obviously have Art Bell lead.

If you choose "Other Host," please name who you think is/would be a great candidate for hosting.

If you like two equally, choose "Other Host" and specify that in a reply.

Haven't been through all the posts here quite yet, but I'll start by saying I find Noory interesting enough to keep C2C as background noise during the evening hours.

Sometimes I get the feeling he's disinterested, but that's not always. He's all right. Knapp, Punnett, and Bell all seem more genuine, but not necessarily by leaps and bounds. One thing's for sure, Noory often picks some pretty weak bumper music. :D My problems with the show mostly stem from the sorts of guests that are on moreso than the hosts. Shows totally about things like astrology, life path numbers, and *gags* that guy who was on droning about 'non-dualism' some months ago bore me to the point of pain-inducing irritation. I'm not sure who the primary bookers of such guests are, but I'd say they're more an issue than Noory.

Anyway, de gustibus non est disputandum.
