ediot2wit;  mods please merge with ftheollwing IF APPROPRIATE tia:

Thanks for asking about the details, and sorry it's taken so long to get back!

As Christmas day approaches, I had to churn out a few more "classics" and do a proper holiday EP.  Click on the garish graphic below for the band camp page.

1.Carol of the Bells 01:30
2.Bring a Torch Janette Isabella 02:22
3.Deck the Halls 02:49
4.Holy Night 01:39
5.Silent Night 02:44
6.Jingle Bells 02:17

Oh yes, DETAILS!  Where does one even begin?  You pretty much start with your MIDI composition, which you play on a keyboard, and quantize to taste.  Sometimes, just for shits and giggles, I'll use a dumb and boring synth patch just to get the part sequenced, and THEN I'll work on the timbre/sound.  From there, it's just being tasteful with your synth patches (which are all semi-programmed from scratch for the specific part), along with some half-decent mixing.  Just the standard compressors and EQ's in that dept., along with some spectral enhancement, reverb, and other stuff used sparingly.  They say arrangement is everything, and you really do have to be mindful of your parts, instrumentation and structure.  In this regard, you also have to choose or design some nice hits/crashes/swells for your transitions.  Drum Parts are relatively easy for the house, trance, or disco parts, while the "dubstep" is just some triplet grooves, for the most part.  The 3/4 timing in "Carol of the Bells" was no sweat either, but maybe it's kind of drum n' bass sounding?   ???  "Bring a Torch Janette Isabella" is also 3/4, but has a more traditional disco feel.  Had to try and keep that one "K-Pop" sounding!  And I'm not Korean!  Obviously, any loop samples you're using at this point (drums only) are going to be chopped up, cropped, and re-arranged.   Most of my drums are sequenced like everything else, though.  Maybe I'll bullet point some more interesting things:

• My MIDI "controller" is a Roland Fantom - I also use it to sequence stuff when my computer is busy playing netflix.
• The reggae guitar on the intro of "Holy Night" is real, and was performed by the esteemed yet deposed Prince I&I ASIanman of Jah-Rastafari.  The Prince is currently in contact with C2C for an upcoming guest spot.
• I use Massive (the vst soft synth) for a bunch of parts, but a host of other vst synths are used too.
• "Carol of the Bells" contains a sample of a human scream, to signify the true horror of the holiday season.
• It was all done in "in the box" using REAPER.  Pro-Tools was not involved
• If you want to see a complete gear list, check out my studio webstie at

With that said, you should probably ignore everything I just said and check out the music straight away.  Unlike my rambling and near-meaningless technical details, the actual music is kind of rad.

2ndEdit:  All jokes aside, that man is a mean and scary piper.  If the drums were peasant we truly would have been home by Christmas about a hunnert yarns/threads ago plus or minus a few days/weeks/months.  I fear the day that I see that one on the field of Mars.  Either as a general or a mano y mona(sp) whiner take all fought...  I salute that GRATE SCOT, awesome pipes, love the pipes can't stand the artillery barrage of music at this time of year and he made my musical point most eloquently and brutally no further effort required on my part.

This is SERIOUS fishing!

A FEDERAL program has/should be launched where by tax monies ice fishing in Alabama is a State and Locally recognized sporting opportunity.

This is IMPORTANT, not only locally but nationwide.

I did not want to share this with you, but I shop at the local BP (British Petrol), the smokes are cheap and they usually have good deals on airline bottles of booze...

I sometimes hear voices in my trailer, my friend Eddie at the BP helps me out when I go to visit him.

He usually has FireBall airline bottles on a "speshul" discount Dracula for me.

I am lazy and I am sure a thread about this already exists.

Merge away, MV or whomever, if this is the case.

So, what I would buy to stream Art's upcoming show, heck Gabcast and perhaps others would be something along the lines of this:

-Hardwire/Ethernet capability (in addition to a wiFi that can be turned off, either by switch or by 'hacking' into the wiFi transmitter)

-Programmable i.e. Gabcast starts at 7pm CST (or thereabouts) on Tuesdays, I want the thing to pick up the stream say half an hour early, and not drop that stream until either user input (I change the channel) or another scheduled stream 'appointment' happens for instance Art Bell's new show that comes on at 10pm CST.

-Be a table-top type unit (w/software package is fine, but "plug and play" would be best.  By table-top I mean sort of the size of an old skool Clock/Radio/Alarm (shoebox size, hell what a great name for it "ShoeBox" hehe)

-To program, you log into it like you would a router, or cable modem or anything else ang give it the stream info (w/ passwords for secure streams?  do those change or something? no idea there) times to tune in, etc whatever bells and whistles the awesome engineers come up with that don't suck, impede performance etc...

that's all I got right now, I hope someone reads this and makes me feel like a dumbass and points me in the direction of some product that already exists...

Thank you for your time, intar-tube tech wizards.  I stopped leveling up in that Character Class sometime in the mid-1990s.  That is all!

Jorch, sounds like you need to up your dosage:

'How WHOLE Turmeric Heals The Damaged Brain'

As a scientific-doctor-type I recommend that you switch to whole toomeric.  Studies have shown that powdered toomeric doesn't pass the blood-brain barrier very well, especially when ingested orally.  I therefore proscribe you to start using whole toomeric as a suppository (YOU CAN GOOGLE THE WORD 'suppository' GEORGE, THE TROOF IS OUT THERE!)

Prince Charles of England (Britain?) apparently has had great success with coffee suppositories so the science of this method of delivery is quite proven and settled!

Note to ONG (Others Not George):  this thread is a serious medical thing, and should be used only to extol the virtues of medicine.  Primarily Toomeric, but other medicines may be briefly mentioned,  Carnivora for instance is a good medicine.

Or Project POG.

Noory!  I just found this at a news site:

'Not the Chinese, But The NSA That Will Conduct A ‘False Flag’ Attack Upon The Power Grid!'

You should get crackin', get AJ on the horn and schedule an appearance, on this important breaking news.  Perhaps Dame Edwards could chime in on it too...

This site is highly trusted, George;  BeforeItsNews you can tell by their name that they have access to some sort of time travel technology, otherwise they wouldn't know about stuff before it becomes news...

To the ONG (Others Not George) reading this, feel free to find and add your own news stories/idle speculations/sane ramblings relating to this critical project, help Jorch and the children (partial proceeds from the POG Project(tm) will be donated to Veteran Charities!)

Radio and Podcasts / Noory Bumper Music "Embrace the Suck"
« on: November 17, 2014, 11:52:12 AM »
George, we had a saying in the Army, it went like this:  "Embrace the Suck."  You, being a Navy man, may recall a similar saying from your branch of service;  it probably meant something a bit different from the Army version.  I digress... in the spirit of the Army's unofficial motto I want to try to help you with your Bumper Music.

Following are some suggestions with possible situations in which to use some "new" songs, this for the "new" direction of the show.  Most of these are easy to find on YouTube or elsewhere,  I will attempt to provide links for the more obscure/esoteric ones.

"I know there's Something Going On" - Frida
This one is just a general use song, your Bumper Music doesn't necessarily need to have any meaning, as I am sure you are already aware.

"Don't You Want Me Baby" - Human League
You can use this one when you have a female guest on that you want to hit on, it should really be a guest that you haven't poached from another host though.

"Here Comes the Rain Again" - Eurythmics
This is more of a general purpose female-guest-hit-on song, as a plus it is sort of subtle;  the pertinent line isn't in the first few seconds of the song.  As a bonus, you can let it run until the pertinent line comes up if you need a longer "break" from being on-air!

"(Keep Feeling) Fascination" - Human League
Just a general purpose "new" direction song for you.   The lyrics to this one are sort of relevant to your show in whatever form it takes (I know, Human League again, but hey I think you might like that band!  Give 'em a try!)

"Get Back" - Ludacris
This one might be a bit edgy for you, George.  Might help in expanding your audience demographic, though!  I recommend you use this one when you have a guest on that has a "bad connection" (har-har-haw), before or after they get "dumped."  You could also use it if some awful troll type gets through on open lines and you need to build back up your 30 sec delay.  Even if you don't like them, the trolls are also part of your audience at times and this could be a fun way to FU them while you get your shoe back on track.

"Mony Mony" - Billy Idol
This could be a good segue into or out of commercial breaks, especially if you plan to run or just ran a Carnivora Advertisment (the lyrics could really make those Carnivora Ads *POP* think about it!)

"Columbus (Avenue of the Americas)" - Four Ears
I recommend this one when you have "The Numbers Lady" on, as a benefit it is really long (7 mins!) and you can let it really run on if she is starting to bore you, or you have some "unfinished business" that needs to be tended to between on-air sessions.  This one is a little esoteric, and I'd bet most of your listeners have never even heard it.  This could be a way to show off your hipster side, which is a plus you might look cool!

That's all I have for now, George!  I hope others around here on BellGab can "Embrace the Suck" and perhaps provide more suggestions of their own on Bumper Music for yew!

"Rainbow Stew" - Merle Haggard
I just like this song, but if you go political talk as your "new" direction, I think you should put it in the rotation!
