Radio and Podcasts / Re: Art Bell cancels show for good

[I just find this crazy, all of it. Setting up LLCs and business partnerships and 6 months later ending it all?
] Yup, and since we've been here before, I can't say I'm surprised. I did hope for better, though. Agreeing with you all: rent a cop, sophisticated security system & cameras, broadcast from a secure site elsewhere...so many things to try. Bottom line, he just wanted to prove he could be successful again, but doesn't really want to work again. He will be off to Manilla in a heartbeat. Airyn's probably been nagging about that for years...

Jesus, I knew it.  Art's quit Dark Matter Network.  (Sorta kidding).  Art has returned to retirement.  Enjoy Art, enjoy.

Maybe the best we can hope for is that he quits retirement. Quits quitting. Nah....I'm not gonna even hope for that one.

Under heading: beating a dead horse

Futile to bring this up, but I stumbled on Dr. Laura on Sirius over the weekend (I know, I know) but  as I listened awhile, I realized she has callers one right after another so how is it Art said he couldn't get callers up to his standards?
I mean.....if it works for her call in show, it should work for Art, right?  We've had Sirius in the car, and also on my iPad for some years and wil continue. But this really jumped out at me.....she has a live callin show?! Wtf?!

Best you can hope for is an interesting topic and a competent interviewer.

Yep....that is always the hope everlasting. So far...jim Harold as an interviewer, but he doesn't get the guests. Mysterious Universe might be my new favorite.

Tobias is wonderful. Have you heard him talk about Savannah?  Very good. I was hoping to hear him again.

Well now that I turned it off, I can't find it again. Talk about a poor app! Livestream makes Sirius seem positively stellar by comparison. Not to mention LS doesn't work on iPad, so I had to go dig out my phone.

Sorry if redundant (it's been a shopping weekend) but.....anybody know why it's Sanger Paranormal instead of Tobias on DM live?
This actually is the first time I've tried to listen to the stream. Went to the trouble of Downloading yet another player and it's this mediocre yakking.

Bateman's interview rivals Jim Harold's in 2nd place after Art, of course. The guest's info on that Russioan incident was fully engaging and ooooh so creepy!  Bravo! To Steve ________(?)

I'll bet you dollars to donuts (what a strange phrase) Art would not listen to himself beyond small bits to analyze and improve. I have several piano CDs and wouldn't dream of listening to them, even tho I enjoy one if I hear it somewhere else.

And yes, it is all about the interview. Callers were my least favorite. If Art were on we would hear in- depth about the Phillipine disaster. He does what no one else will.

Whereas the birth of an Art Bell or a broadcaster of the caliber of an Art Bell is a rarity indeed.

Can any of you name any broadcasters today who will be thought of 20,30,40 years from now those like Art, Lowell Thomas, Frank Edwards, Alex Drier, Paul Harvey ?
Or the great newscasters of radio of the past like Kaltenborn and others ?

I would hope NOT Howard Stern. I would nominate Jim Bohanan, though he's more of a journalist.

Another shameless plug for Oregon.....shoutcast's U7 faithfully playing Art Bell programs keeping me relatively happy the past 10 years (until I memorized them all) I are a couple of guys in Eugene, OR home of the U of O Ducks.

How was that for a run on?  So Hanky, do likewise.

Have no fear, I created a thread for you guys that are friends. It's called the Art Bell Fan Club, located under Art Bell on the main menu. You guys can relocate there. It is a thread that has nothing to do with Art Bell quitting Dark Matter. Just a place for you guys to chat. You'll like it there. It's new.

That's like a party crashed showing up and trying to kick everybody out of MY house?!

There will never be another Art Bell, however as to interviewing technique, Jim Harold is my number one favorite in Art's absence. I'm sorry I missed him tonight. He has not had the quality of interviewees, though and I always think back to Art making damn sure there was good phone audio, too.

I hope Jim is on again, and I would LOVE EVP's!

Everyone keeps referencing the 1990's, but my question is.........what was the earliest you were heard in Oregon? Seems to me I first heard you driving home after gigs weekend nights sometime in the 80's.
