Ian had a smart lady on last night talking intelligently about sex robots and other things.   Yikes on the dude calling in talking about how he had a sex robot and preferred it to those damn liberated women libbers--lol!

I really enjoyed this interview, reminded me of Ian's shows with Mary Roach.

I think I will get me some Tracer Rounds and a new SKS... Would be sooooo pretty at night in the
snow!!! But it has to be Russian I can't be shooting those Chinese Corona Virus Cockroach Crap!!!

I've not had good luck with 7.62x39 tracer ammo, doesn't "trace" much.  I've had ammo from both Russia and Ukraine.
I have three SKS, my Norinco paratrooper (duckbill mags) is my favorite and the sweetest SKS I've ever fired.  I had a guy ask me at a public range if he could fire it, he shot 5-6 rounds and offered me $850 cash on the spot.  I paid $300, but declined.  I'm a shooter, not a collector.

William Henry even laughed when Dave asked the Devil question. This frequently happens with guests when Dave blurts out childish questions. Also guests get frustrated that he often he asks the same questions over and over. Usually they are polite about it (after all they are trying to sell their books) but say "as I said earlier," "as we discussed," "like I mentioned at the beginning of the program."

But my favorite is when Mr.Norway has a legitimate guest who obviously unfamiliar with the show and many of the callers. Maybe his agent booked him or something. He will be on about some novel theory about some science and inevitably a caller will get on and ask him to comment on something like "Demons in government agencies who are targeting individuals with mind-control for a nefarious agenda to bring about end-times or if are aliens who have targeted her and forced her to move to Morgellon's and electronic allergies. They even took her children." or something. And the scientist will be baffled on how to answer and somewhat taken aback at the question.

I remember one night when a caller asked John Alexander a question like that.  After brief silence, he said, "I have no idea what the Hell you're talking about."

Never seen that before.

3 subsonic(at that altitude) heavy bombers.

This video is about an engineer who was forced to eject from 1 of the the supersonic capable B-1A prototypes during a test hop.  CG too far aft for wing sweep and about 1/2 way through the video (40:00) there's a CG image of the incident. Nose up 70º+ rocks port and starboard as she falls like a leaf.  Ejection commanded and the minivan sized escape capsule deploys, but a riser fails to shear and the capsule hits hard on the front right nose hard enough to snap the seat adjuster rod(supposedly rated for 40g). The front right and back seater(only B-1 Flight Test Engineer Otto Waniczek-the man in the video) was in 1 of 2 back seats).
Only prototypes 1 through 3 had the escape capsule. Proto-4 had 4 single person more conventional ejection seats, as did the 100 production B-1B variants.

B-1 Ejection test of the B-1 Lancer's Crew Module

Uncle Duke(or anyone else), do you have any realworld memories of that B-1A ejection?

peace
Hog

Yes.  I didn't work the investigation, but a colleague did.  I also read the mishap report. The failure of what was essentially an explosive bolt did not allow the module to reposition prior to impact.  Instead of landing on the impact attenuation bags, it landed nose down.  Doug Benefield died when his seat tore loose on impact and he went into the instrument panel.

I knew Waniczek, he worked for Northrop when I was assigned to the Special Projects Office.  I worked for Dick Reynolds when he was a three star at WPAFB.  He was a class act. He held a commander's call a few days after 9/11 that was the most inspiring thing I've ever heard.  Good guy, easy to talk to, cared about his people.

A former colleague was a B-52 pilot at Barksdale when a couple Bears made a goodwill visit.  He was one of the USAF aircrew who got to take a flight in one of them, he said he could still feel the vibrations hours after landing.

Built by the British in 1942, sold to the Netherlands in 1948, sold to Argentina in 1969, finally decommisioned in 1997:

The Sea Hawk is another very pretty airplane, in person it comes across as relatively small and eloquent.  They flew combat for both the Brits and the Indians with good success.  The RN's FAA Museum has, or at least had, an airworthy Sea Hawk, but I haven't seen it mentioned as having been flown for several years.

The B-47 was a beautiful aircraft, I remember seeing them as a kid.  The USN used a B-47 as a test bed aircraft and flew it another ten years after the USAF retired all theirs. The toss bombing technique shown in the video was called LABS (Low Altitude Bombing System).

Knapp really screwed the pooch last night attempting to push his Skinwalker Ranch meal ticket narrative.  Repeatedly the guest, who had worked security at the ranch, responded he'd seen none of the weird things Knapp kept saying were commonplace.  When Knapp asked him the weirdest thing he saw, he said he saw a strange light that turned out to be a "falling star." The best the poor guy could muster for Knapp was odd feelings like he was being watched, and thinking he saw some unusual canine type varmints for which he could find no footprints and did not show up on photos he took.  Knapp also seemed disappointed the other guest in this segment, an art museum director who's going to do an exhibition of the security guy's Skinwalker photographs,  wasn't the least bit concerned none of the photos to be displayed showed anything of a woo woo nature, and seemed to have zero interest in such things himself.  Poor Knapp.

Anyone else notice caller "Cosmic Steve" last night?  He claimed to be a GSL brineshrimper who saw a large group of bucks walking around on their hind legs, and that his friend saw a Bigfoot get out of a landed UFO. Knapp cut him off as he was blathering away about his dog disappearing in an airplane.  This was the same guy who within the past couple months told the long alien encounter story that ended with the ET wanting a purple slurpee.  I can't remember who the host and guest were that call, but he's on a roll in getting past the screener and trickfucking C2C.

http://parallaxuap.blogspot.com/2020/11/tell-him-what-he-wants-to-hear-ex-baass.html

I don't know if this is the security guy Knapp interviewed and we talked about (see above) in Sept 2020, but this article does raise questions about the credibility of Skinwalker Ranch stories. Sounds like guys telling Bigelow what they thought he wanted to hear was going along to get along, and good for job security.  Funny how Knapp didn't cover this story or ask Bigelow about it when he was a guest a week or two ago.

Raking and taking a break. I guess Mr.Norway decided to ditch out early, as normal, because of those dreadful open lines. Why not put Syrett, or someone who wants to work or take calls, on for Friday night open lines. Dave decided to make the limited open lines riveting by discussion about landlines, robo-callers, and party lines (which couldn't understand how they worked because "everyone had their own number.")  And he likely doesn't even know that most people who still have a 'landline' it really isn't but VOIP and usually bundled with your internet/cable.

Riveting Mr.Norway:
"The world is going to cell phones"
"How about payphones? There isn't many of those either."

Dave's favorite possession is a billy club used by former guest Doug Hutchison in the movie "A Green Mile."  I think this is the same guy that married a barely legal chick, decades younger.

Funny to hear the old gal who gave George shit for taking all the calls from regulars.  She complained they were keeping others from getting on the air.  George's response was they know how to get through.  That could be taken to mean they have a different number to use to call the show.

Ah. Interesting stuff. If I could do things over again, I might have headed in that direction. Certainly wouldn't be doing the shit I am doing now.

If you'd like to read a more practical analysis of how various aircraft would have fared against one another by someone who flew them for real (as opposed to on an interactive computer game), I recommend Eric Brown's book "Duels in the Sky."  I'm sure your local public library could get you a copy through inter-library loan.

Neat on the Vought thing. Were they working on the naval F-16 variant? The Buffy dive policy just sounds so British.  ;)

No, when I was there they were still building A-7s.  They also were doing subcontract work for various other companies, including 747 work for Boeing.  The most interesting thing I worked on was supporting the F-8 Crusader sustainment group.  The USN was phasing out the fighter version, but the photo recon variant was still in use.  The French Navy was still flying the Crusader, and while I was there they sold a batch of refurbished F-8s out of the boneyard to the Philippines.

Hopefully you get a kick out of it. Watch out for the F2A Buffalo cameo where the NACA gets it into a 550 MPH dive.

That was like taking "Aircraft Performance" class all over again.  Guy was really hung on speed.

I was a co-op engineering student at Vought (Grand Prairie, TX) in the mid 70s.  I met a couple old guys on the production line who built Corsairs (F4Us and AU-1s) both in Connecticut and Grand Prairie.

I read a book about the RAF using Buffalos in defense of Singapore/Malaya.  One of pilots commented the only thing the Buffalo could do better than the Zero was dive, but they were forbidden to use diving attacks similar to how the AVG fought Zeros.  The Buffalo pilots were told any RAF pilot seen diving from a fight would shot for cowardice.

F6F and the F4U vs Fw 190 and the Me 109.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2aqeALGWL8

I'm looking forward to watching this.  I know of at least one combat between RN Hellcats and FW-190s.  Eric "Winkle" Brown, the legendary RN test pilot who flew almost 500 different aircraft in his career, wrote a book about combat match ups between various aircraft based on him having flown them.  I remember him writing the FW was superior to the Corsair across the board, and only an incompetent FW pilot would get shot down in a one-on-one combat.

Thanks, Walks.  I was in pretty much the same mindset, but I remember one particular tantrum message here from him about his bumper music and the licensing agreement.  I heard a MitD episode the other night on U7 and hearing a bumper or two reminded me of the licensing kerfuffle.

Anyone else remember details?  Seems most of the folks who were here at the time and fell for his comeback hype left in disgust.  I know Jazmunda worked his ass off to help promote MitD, and got nothing out of it.  He was a good guy, really enjoyed his posts.

Does anyone remember what Bell's tantrum was relative to having to pay for a music licensing agreement in the lead up to MitD?  I know he threatening to quit the show before it started if he couldn't use his bumper music, but since the show did go on, whatever the issue was it apparently got resolved.  I've looked in this thread but I can't find his initial post threatening to bail, or an explanation how the matter was resolved.

A very entertaining open lines call this morning from a guy named Brent who claimed he is in touch with the spirit of Art Bell.  Seems Bell sustained brain damage during/as a result of his death, so he isn't able to communicate as well as would be expected.  On the plus side, it appears in death Bell gained at least a degree of humility in that he asked Brent to relay his apologies for the way he treated George late in his life.  He feels bad about his behavior.

The caller struck me as a "lite" version of Charles from Elgin, TX; somewhat disjointed and rambling.  The best part was when he told Syratt he really wanted to talk to George, but "he would have to do."  Syratt appeared to take it all in stride.

Ha!  I’ve been expecting Clyde Lewis to be all over this but he’s been preoccupied with what you’d expect for these times.  I expect he and Knapp will be getting to it, while Mr. Norway is doing snake oil infomercials and snoring thru women of woo, interspersed with Poe readings and cornball comedy replays.

I would hope C2C holds that CIA UFO documents show until either Syratt or Punnett,  or even Knapp, can interview John Greenwald.  I pray it's not George.

How many guests have to explain to George the US Navy's group looking into UFOs/preparing the Congressional report is not being paid for with COVID funding?  I have heard at least three guest explain it to him, but he keeps saying it.

The old lady said "Goldstein" and wanted to know how he "got the answers about what went on the bunker with Hitler that night." I was Ian would've had him on longer about Africa, the wars against communists, post-colonialism, and mining. Oscar in Dallas tried to get the "farmer murders" and white genocide going on in Africa but Ian shut that down, of course.

Contrary to guest's claims, Black African soldiers were used by the South African forces and especially in other countries were used, natives being great trackers and obviously whites were outnumbered. But not members of regular military, normally. There are various scandals about pensions and lack of support for them. Sort of like how British loyal subjects weren't treated as well (pensions, settlement to Britain, etc) as native British troops.

Yeah, I caught the comment about there being no blacks in the South African military.  Blacks served in not only the SA forces, but in the Rhodesian and Portuguese militaries fighting Communists in Africa in the 60-70s. In SA, the Selous Scouts were particularly feared by the Communist guerillas.

Slap on the wrist was expected but still. It also brings up the question this is about criminal charges, not civil liability (though they apparently are allow to offset the fine with fees they've paid to customers.) Corporations always get the breaks and obviously 'too big to fail' but still. Can I set up a legal entity. Let's incorporate it as Albrecht Ventures, LLC. Business is banking related. If I'm caught robbing a bank can Albrecht Ventures, LLC admit a small amount of guilt, pay a fine with no prison time, and no individuals named even in the settlement except the corporate name? And worse possibility is for Albrecht Ventures, LLC is a fine or even all the money in its account is seized and is to no longer be able to be an corporation?
