The left is not immune to innane fiscal policy... Nixon froze prices and wages...devastating... It's simple, if a farmer had a bad crop, prices go up...if you force them to sell for less without compensation for good years, they die....

Nixon was on the left?

Wage and price controls were in response to a specific problem of high and rising inflation.  He did not support them for 'normal times.'  It was failed policy because it didn't address the real problem which was that the money supply was expanding too quickly, but given the understanding of monetary and fiscal policy at the time, it was not an inane response.

Well, he made a more friendly with the Chi-Coms and ended fighting Commies in Vietnam, etc. (And abandoned some
Of our allies (primarily mountain tribes n Christians) to them. Ask the Nixon back-tattoo guy on C2C tonight.)

The country had turned against the war.  I don't think he wanted to leave.  It was also stupid for the United States to get into the Vietnam War.

OK.  In many ways Nixon would be considered on the left on most economic issues today.  Even on social issues, his 'red meat' was mostly just talk.  It's a sign of how off the rails the modern Republican party has gotten.

Well not the national party but maybe the locals. Like the dems. Lots of disaffection. But the 'right' as you might call them is getting more right simply due to the mainstream n media going so far 'off the rails' on other issues. Like even biology becoming a 'choice' and 'free speech' only if you hold Party opinion and not 'offend' and the whole open-border and need to accept rape etc because 'its a cultural thing' by the 'refugees' and illegals. Accept the machismo and backwards cultures because 'whitey' deserves it, I guess.

Hillary Clinton attended Wellesley, Yale Law

I know. It's a vast left-wing conspiracy among college graduates

Close, TL but the connecting factor is that all Skull & Bones are Yaleys

It's also why the Bushes and the Clintons are so close.  ;)

It's all a Canadian plot. They goad us into going to war which creates refugees that Canada then takes in to do the jobs Canadians don't want to do.
It's all clear to me now.....

Nixon was a moderately conservative Republican for those days, though based on the idiotic book "None Dare Call it Conspiracy" the John Birch Society hated him.

I'm not sure about Alf Landon in 1936, but from the time the New Deal Supporter Wendell Wilkie won the Republican nomination in 1940, there was a broad consensus on economic, social and foreign policy issues from both parties up until 1980 and the nomination of Ronald Reagan.

Of course, Ike and JFK disagreed with each other over fiscal matters, but these debates were minor compared to the nonsense today of 'tax cuts pay for themselves.' (I'm aware the Kennedy argued precisely that when he lowered the top marginal rate from 90% to 71% (or from 91 to 70%) but that's a whole different thing than cutting the top rate from 39% to 35% and still expecting that rate cut to actually result in higher revenue.)

I'd say first the Civil Rights movement which over time turned white southerners against the Democratic Party, Roe V Wade and the emergence of an additional 'rights battles' from women's rights to gay rights, and the stagflation of the 1970s and early 1980s all ended this broad consensus.

Of course, George H W Bush had been a 'Planned Parenthood Republican' who supported both the Equal Rights Amendment and voted for the Civil Rights Act as a member of the House.

Regarding None Dare Call It Conspiracy, it's idiotic for several reasons.  For one thing, in the final page of the book, it warns that if Richard Nixon is reelected in 1972, he'll have turned the United States over to the Soviet Union by 1976.  I must have missed when that happened.

Also, the book title is wrong.  If just me, I dare call it conspiracy. So, at a minimum, the book title should actually be "One Dare Call it Conspiracy."  (I'm aware that this is grammatically incorrect.)

NBC calling Indiana for Bernie by a significant margin.  The Dems are going to get the "rigged" heat now.

Indiana. Good for Bernie!

This has become a lonely thread.  The battle is over, but the war for the soul of the movement is just beginning. Question is, will Bernie turn the movement into a self serving PAC like Howard Dean (Democracy for America) or BHO (Organizing for America) did, or will they actually want people for more than donations and door knocking?

Do they want people for more than donations, phone banking and door knocking now?

Not right now, but it is still primary season.  I really want to see how much of the resources of the campaign will be spent creating a network of groups, supporting massive voter registration drives, challenging voter suppression laws with legal action, pushing toward economic justice by recruiting and supporting candidates, etc., etc.  I suspect that "feel the Bern" will probably go the way of "yes we can" or "HHHEYEYEYYYYAAARRRGH!"  (I just can't remember Dean's actual slogan, so I substitute the one for which he is most famous.)

To widen her support, Hillary is stuck between pandering to Bernie supporters (basically very liberal) and dissatisfied anti-Trump Republicans and Independents (mainly moderates and some conservatives). Will take some real tap dancing. Should be entertaining.

I suggest further left Democrats (who some liberal Democrats refer to as Progressives) start up a think tank so that they can come up with more realistic solutions than opposition to the concept of free trade, proposing large tariffs with the false promise that that would bring back a large amount of manufacturing jobs and proposing marginal tax rates on the wealthiest that combined with state taxes would top 70% that even here in Canada our Parliamentary Budget Officer predicted that a similar type of tax increase would bring in only $1 billion of the already modest $3 billion that the Liberal government claimed it would.

Personally I think it would also help if they got over this romantic notion that manufacturing jobs are somehow more important than any other type of job.  Even the idea that manufacturing jobs are high paying is a complete fiction, as many manufacturing jobs are actually much lower paying assembly jobs.  However, I'd be pleased if they start with the think tank and work there way from there.

Other than his correct opposition to the Iraq War, Howard Dean was, on most issues, a genuine centrist.  Of course, I'm not sure why opposing the biggest foreign policy blunder since the Vietnam War is considered 'left wing,' but anyway.

In case you need any more proof Bernie Sanders is retarded.

Quotehttps://finance.yahoo.com/news/study-sanders-economic-plan-piles-170219543.html

>Sen. Bernie Sanders' tax and spending proposals would provide new levels of health and education benefits for American families, but they'd also blow an $18-trillion hole in federal deficits, piling on so much debt they would damage the economy.

>That sobering assessment comes from a joint analysis released Monday by the nonpartisan Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center and the Urban Institute Health Policy Center, well-known Washington think tanks.

>The bottom line: Democratic presidential candidate Sanders would raise taxes by more than $15 trillion over 10 years, with most of that paid by upper-income earners. But that wouldn't be enough to cover the cost of his proposed government-run health care system, along with free undergraduate college, enhanced Social Security, family and medical leave, among other new programs.

>As a result, Sanders would add $18 trillion to federal debt over a decade

So even if by some sweet miracle we manage to get rid of our 19 trillion something debt now, we'll just be right back there again under the commie. And that's the best case scenario not taking into consideration how he'll cause rampant inflation and eradicate small business.

Suborning common sense to the analyses and predictions of "well-known Washington think tanks" paid by industry is what largely got us into this mess.  We already have universal health care, at the ER; where a band-aid costs $100, plus the $5000 for its application and giving top execs of insurers salaries of tens of millions while adding zero value to medical care.

BTW, Sanders has never promised "free college", only free college tuition and there's a hooge difference.

I don't know why people pay any attention to politicians promising that they've seen the light and have changed. All one need do is look at who are her carefully selected audiences.

When you waste tens of millions of dollars from the poor, the debt ridden and college students and cry like a bitch when you lose. Any way, here's more proof Bernie Sanders is retarded.

Um... MSNBC, CNN, Bloomberg, NPR just to start you silly commie fuck? Not to mention social media filtering out conservative news. This idiot is the worst mainstream candidate of my lifetime. He's finally won the prize from Romney.

Bernie gets robbed again.  If this was happening on the Republican side, I'd be raising hell about the super delegates.

if the Nazis were socialists just because they sort of called themselves socialists (they actually referred to themselves as national socialists as a combined phrase and defined it quite differently from socialism or communisn)  then this is actually a great relief to me.  Because the full name of North Korea is the People's Democratic Republic of Korea. Well, if that's what they call themselves, it must be true. So, since it turns out that North Korea is a democracy we obviously have nothing to worry about from them.

Seriously the writers of that poster are so stupid they even incorrectly put an apostrophe in 'Nazis'.  (Sorry for being a grammar Nazi.)

Apparently Comrade Bernie's gang of useful idiots caused a ruckus tonight at the Nevada Democratic Convention. The story is just beginning to get on the internet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEsb9MftJC8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzIYOHMtEbE

QuoteTensions exploded in Nevada today as a newly engaged Democrat electoral base found out how corrupt the Clinton Political Machine is.

Clinton determined to “Destroy The Bern”.

It started when the “PARTY APPARATUS”, through the direction of Hillary Clinton, scheduled the Nevada Convention on the same day as UNLV graduation. This was intended to keep the Bernie Sanders supporters out of the convention itself, and provide additional leverage for the Clinton team to steamroll the process.  Team Clinton began the steamrolling by counting the delegates while Team Bernie was still in the registration process….

The convention began with secret meetings within the rules committee and a quick collection of delegate counts prior to all of the attendees and Delegates actually having an opportunity to be present on the floor. Bernie Sanders supporters demanding delegate recounts, and requesting a re-vote.

This was followed by Bernie Sanders supporters becoming angry over a voice vote that adopted a set of temporary convention rules as the permanent rules. The rules committee denied points of order brought up by the attending Bernie Sanders supporters. The Bernie voters were shut down and not allowed to have their voices heard.

The vote on rules led to supporters flocking the front of the convention room and shouting “this is fixed” and “no confidence” at party officials.

Watch what happened as the Bernie Sanders supporters were denied.  The narration gives a pretty good explanation as to what’s going on:

@SenSanders Demanding a recount! NV convention getting ugly pic.twitter.com/24Fg0t8V0Z

â€" Jennie Helena (@helena_jennie) May 14, 2016

(Via Las Vegas Sun) […] Speaking on behalf of Clinton, California Sen. Barbara Boxer urged Nevada Democrats to unite behind the former secretary of state to defeat the Republican party’s apparent nominee, Donald Trump. Boxer called Sanders “a friend” and addressed the Sanders supporters’ behavior.

“You can boo all you want,” Boxer said. “Boo louder, because you’re booing Bernie Sanders.”

Clinton’s supporters slightly outnumbered Sanders’ at the convention, according to the first credentials report of the convention â€" about 1,618 to 1,475. That report didn’t take into account the delegates and alternates still registering when the convention kicked off, and a final report is still to come. (read more)

I sympathize with these people being completely screwed and having the mass media talking about clouds or whatever the fuck instead of this. But since I detest Sanders and the typical Sanders supporter, I'm keking.
