An awful lot of Canadians show up in US hospitals for the most modern treatments or they can't wait their turn. Of course that is only the people that can afford it.

One of those anecdotal things with absolutely no evidence to support it. And those that do usually are just skipping ahead in line for minor stuff as they think being rich makes them better than others.

"Indeed, the numbers found are so small as to be barely detectible relative to the use of care by Canadians at home."

I'm disgusted that my American friends aren't more focused on this.  The U.S. is the only G8 country without universal health care.  It's shameful and quite frankly pitiful.  Get your act together!

Here's a Map of the Countries That Provide Universal Health Care (America's Still Not on It)

The Republican corksuckers in this country would never go for that. Ayn Rand told them never to take anything from the government...then she took social security and medicare when she got older. Stupid fuckin' bitch. And fuck Paul Ryan too, stupid piece of shit made everyone who works in his office read Ayn Rand. Fuckin' douchebag.

Art needs to have Aubrey de Grey on. Extending human lifespan by 50 years is peanuts compared to certain active areas of biotechnology.

The big problem with healthcare discussions is that neither the capitalistic nor the socialist approach results in the best possible system. Both approaches lead to inefficiency.

Or they just hire a handicapped person to go to Disneyland with them so they can skip all the lines and get right on the rides.

I think that there's often obfuscation in-between theoretical models and those models in practice. Living in Canada, I do happen to quite like the socialist approach to healthcare but it is far from perfect due to... Humans being human. But I acknowledge that, I'd be a fool to say otherwise.

I have no problems with SS and medicare, just the expansion of that thinking into every corner of our lives....seems to me at the least, fraught with historical references to danger, and at the least a loss of control over health at the personal level, in other words eventually you will not be allowed to not use the drugs the govt demands you take, etc. Brave New World.

If Americans are so proud of their country, why don't they give a fuck about each other enough to not let their fellow citizens go bankrupt or even die over simple health care issues?

We imagine hospitals and clinics run by the TSA, our newest effort at universal something.

Good night Maren.  Sweet dreams. :D

It's pretty obvious this guest is out for the big pharma payday. They can act like they want pharma to be affordable as long as they are making 150k+ a year.

I knew someone who wasn't even disabled but rented a wheel chair and acted like he needed it to skip the lines. lol

I thought the important ingredient for gray-goo was that they're self-replicating nanobots.

Sure. And the capitalistic approach fixes some of those problems but introduces problems of its own. I think the solution is in the transition to a resource based economy as we will be forced to do over the next 50 years.
