Hurricane Irma preparing to hit Puerto Rico, Dominican Rep, Bahamas & Florida 06 / 12 Sept 2017.  8.30.17.
Pray that it banks Northeast.

It is still closer to Africa than the Americas. Hopefully it will be pulled north away from land as many Atlantic hurricanes are.  Right now it is a tropical storm with winds at 60 mph.

This looks like the classic horribly destructive hurricane that will reach it's peak strength right before landfall. I really worry about this one.

Yes.  I'm already praying for a bank shot to the Northeast.

Hurricane Irma Outlook for Friday, September 1, 2017.

I got $50 that Irma will turn north and the worst that the US gets from the storm is some great surf and beach erosion maybe a few showers but that is all.

Juan

I went to the store and bought a bunch of canned meat stuff - chili, beef stew, etc.  If I don't use it during hurricane season, I'll have food to eat in January. No panic in the stores yet. There were still Vienna sausages and white bread on the shelves.

Ever stick a Vienna Sausage on a pickle fork and bar-be-cue it over a candle? ;) ;D

Never big on the Vienna Sausages but I like SPAM and Deviled Ham (must be the salt content or memories?) So gas situation here is still nuts. Rumors have created this artificial demand as people hoard. Some tanker trucks have gotten through and filled many stations up. But the panic is still on going so who know how long those will last. Keep in mind this is in an area that got some rain but not the floods or wind damage. Reports of a fist-fight at one station and also "person filling up trash can with gas" (which, as I remind all of you is a violation of Federal law and very dangerous.) This week starts off HS football, UT's first game, and lots of people in from Houston and the coast who fled. Wonder how traffic and gas situation will be?

Do you own a horse, or have friends that do?

Years ago a new gas station was being built in the next city over. They put up a new LED sign and were testing it out, so they put $2.00 up as a random test number. Word started spreading that once this station opened up gas was going to be $2.00/gal (gas was $1.50 or $1.75 at the time, maybe less, this was 2004 or 2005).

People
Flipped
the
Fuck
Out

There were lines out the driveway and down the street at every. single. gas. station. in town that day, in a city with a metro area of around 100,000 people. That's a lot of gas stations and a ton of traffic snarls.

Learned a lesson that day, people are sheep and will panic and do something because they see other people panicking and doing something.

i saw one model where it is heading right towards Philly...

Yeah, the GFS model is taking it basically over the DelMarVa peninsula and up into central PA.  There is a low pressure trough making its way southeastward and it should take Irma out to sea if it is strong.  A lot of the Euro models tend to have Irma being pulled northeastward later this week and not threatening land.  I'd put more money on the Euro model but you can't rule anything out yet.  The GFS model is somewhat unreliable but you never know.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Latest on Hurricane Irma as of Sunday Evening.  9.3.17.

https://youtu.be/8wG3yT04e68

I'm getting more concerned about Irma.  Anybody from the NE Florida Coast up to Long Island should probably start getting a few things together because it seems more likely that the eye will make landfall on the East Coast.  Of particular concern is the area from Savannah to Cape Hatteras.  Nothing is certain yet and it could still head out to sea and never make landfall in the US but that seems a bit less likely than it was 24 hours ago.  If it decides to strike Florida, most likely that will happen on Saturday.  If it strikes Myrtle Beach which seems more likely now, the eye will make landfall next Monday.  Those living 100-200 miles inland should also prepare because this storm will become  a dangerous hurricane and if the storm movies inland fast, it will have less time to weaken.  Remember Hugo.  I also remember Opal in the 90's and the damn thing was still a hurricane when it went over north Georgia.

starrmtn001

I'll be posting the latest update as and when I find them.  My prayers are that she makes a bank shot Northeast and not make landfall anywhere.
