I have seen pretty much every movie that was nominated and wasn't all that impressed with any of them. They were ok but nothing to throw an Oscar at. I did like The Revenant's cinematography.

I only saw 3 of them.  Of the 3, I like The Martian the best but that was never going to win.  The Academy generally doesn't choose sci-fi flicks for the big awards.  Also saw  Bridge of Spies but it could have been a tighter film.  Yes, the Revenant had the best cinematography. DiCaprio finally looked like a man in a film but the performance was rather limited to grunts and sounds.  I thought he'd win anyway because Hollywood loves DiCaprio.

I skipped the awards as the only nominee I really cared anything about was Stallone and he lost.  Back in the day, the Oscars were great but those days are gone as are those stars.

Hmmm.  I watched a documentary about the Ackerman communications about a year ago.  Richard Matheson, yes that Richard Matheson, was interviewed as were Dr. Gary Schwartz and some others.  Should be a good show and yes it is a bit creepy.

OK.  Here's the deal with my comparison.   Despite the fixed economic figures, the economy is insipid and many are no longer looking for work.   People have lost faith in the system.  People are tired of the same ol, same ol.  Both leaders promised to change the system.  Tear it all down and start anew and make Germany and America great again. And today,  Trump said he would have to research the KKK and David Duke before he repudiated them.  WHAT?  Not once but 3 times in response to a Jake Tapper's question on CNN.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9geYl9J_Mc

Either he is extremely stupid or he is a racist, probably both. However, there is a 3rd option, he could very well be a Hillary plant. First about stupidity and racism.  He doesn't know about David Duke and the KKK?  Seriously?  I guess he flunked out of history if he has no idea what the Klu Klux Klan is.  Or maybe he does know who they are but doesn't want to lost the racist vote.  Is this part of some Southern strategy to win over the redneck vote?  I've got news for you, Trump.  I see a lot of lower class white women out with their boyfriends who happen to be black.  This isn't the 60's and the South has changed tremendously since that time.  If this is an appeal to the Southern vote then it's insulting and all Southerners should be insulted.

Hillary is going to make mincemeat of Trump during the General Election if Trump doesn't repudiate Duke and the KKK tomorrow.  He should never be the Republican nominee.  He just disqualified himself.  If he truly is a racist then the Hitler comparison might be more than apt.

One more thing.  Just how is he going to make Mexico pay for the wall?  Is he going to use the issue of drugs to maybe make some raids on Mexican territory?  If the Mexicans don't give in to Trump's demand then, will he escalate the raids and maybe start a second Mexican War? At first, it seems like an outlandish theory but if you think about it then maybe not so much.  This much is certain, we need an answer on how he proposes to make Mexico pay for the wall.

If you are voting Tuesday, please don't vote for Trump.  I'd prefer you to vote for Cruz but please just don't vote for Trump.

I never thought I'd be contemplating this but if a viable alternative is not presented as an option in the general election then I may just have to vote for Hillary.   It would be a first for me and I despise the very thought.  Trump has a lot of explaining to do.  If he is a Hillary plant, then he has been doing a good job but he may have slipped up a bit too early in the process.

I'm extremely disappointed in Jeff Sessions today. The other day, he had defended Cruz from a Rubio attack that deflated the argument that Cruz ever supported amnesty for the illegals.  This is devastating.  Has our country gone insane?  Comparisons to 1933 Germany are valid.

I can see the same behavior with Cruz and him.  Maybe Trump just doesn't play well with others. ;D

Cruz has a calmer demeanor than Rubio and he doesn't resort to cheap gotcha's like Rubio.  Trump's response to anything Cruz says is "Liar, liar."  Rubio also attacks Cruz in the same way.  I usually find the ones who scream liar, liar the most are the ones who resort to lies most often.  Just sayin'.

Just trying to un-derail the Trump thread (not to be confused with undie rail).  I'm leaning toward Trump, but I am still deciding whom to support.  Much can happen between now and election day.

Oh no,  I was commenting on fightthefuture, not you.  A little derailment is fine with me. I'm going to go with Cruz this Tuesday.  I just can't stomach Trump right now.  Rubio and Trump remind me of kids getting in a fight at school.  Rubio dances around and screams,  "I got you!  I got you!"  Trump yells back "You're a choker!  You're a choker!"

The Yazidis, a People Who Fled

The religious minority is once again threatened by genocide in Iraq. What happens to a faith when it's forged in persecution?

That is fascinating.  How odd to have a fear of lettuce.  That would make a funny comedy sketch in the Monty Python tradition.   I can see cannons being loaded with iceberg lettuce and shot.   I jest but I hope they are doing ok.

Syria is just part of the puzzle. Its complicated, but we can not allow Russia to control what happens in that region of the world. They will not stop with Syria.

Putin feared Bush. Putin laughs at Obama. Big difference.

Feared is a bit strong.  Putin respected Bush. This isn't the Cold War, dude, and Putin is not the boogeyman. Is he taking advantage of Obama's weakness?  Of course he is but then he wouldn't be a very good leader if he didn't.  I don't see him trying to re-establish the whole Soviet empire.  He wants to make Russia powerful again but mainly in an economical sense.

FTF, you're a bit too strident even for me and I support the same man that you do.  You need to relax a bit. Breathe deep.  Hold it in for 10 seconds.  Breathe out.

I have a similar view. I've always said that I could have a beer with Bernie Sanders because while I disagree with him on most things politically, I don't doubt his sincerity. Joe Lieberman was another Democrat like that.

Yep.  I liked old Joe.  He's a bit up there but he'd be a good VP for Trump.  A lot of Republicans like him and he's pretty much been ostracized by the Democratic Party.

I am so for helping the Kurds!  They are a decent people that deserve out assistance, if they require it.

Oh, they need help and we should use our air power to coordinate attacks with them. We hit ISIS and they clean up.  Of course they don't want to take over Iraq just their section.  With the rest of Iraq, it is more complex. However we made the mess and now we need to clean things up.  That is if the majority of the Iraqi people want our help.  I don't have any idea if the average Iraqi citizen supports ISIS.  Of course the Shia don't but what of the rest?

I really hate to disagree.  As distasteful as I find Trump- if it comes down to him or Hillary it would be the ONLY thing that would get me out voting this time. There is some kind of a sliding hatred scale where voting for Trump appears to be plausible when the alternative is Hillary walking away with it...

I tend to agree with you.

I'm thinking it's probably going to be Trump/Christie vs. Hillary/?. I wouldn't vote for Bernie, I'm too far to the right of him for that, but at least he's shaking things up on that side. It's actually a very healthy thing to see, both parties getting shook up by outside elements.

I find myself agreeing with Bernie on several issues especially the corrupting influence big business has had on our political system.  I also think Bernie is sincere in his beliefs which is a nice change from the usual political hack.  He would be a lousy President but I sort of like the guy.

I think we should enter into an alliance with Putin regarding ISIS. Forget Assad.  He's not our problem. I know Cruz doesn't feel that way about Assad but he's not as gung-ho as McCain and Graham.  I think Cruz can be convinced that going against Assad is a stupid move. I also think Cruz is far more reluctant than Rubio to actually put ground troops into the Middle East.  Cruz would rather carpet-bomb ISIS, arm the Kurds and only if the Kurds needed assistance would we then put some ground troops into the situation.

Those beasts in ISIS need to be stopped from raping and killing not to mention the destruction they bring to historical places and artifacts.  World history is being destroyed.

Only heard the first hour with the truck driver haunted story guy.  This is probably the most famous story regarding haunted roads, but this radio show version of it doesn't involve a truck driver.

Suspense - The Hitchhiker

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07BT8XOrgKs

It's regarded as the second best episode of the long running radio series 'Suspense' after 'Sorry, Wrong Number' but I personally didn't think it was anything special.  (But, that's just my opinion.)

I posted a link to the radio show if you scroll up the page.  On the same page are literally hundreds of other episodes.  I first listened to the Suspense Hitchhiker adaption a couple of weeks ago.  I enjoyed it immensely.  I'm biased though because I love his voice.  I also have about 100 episodes of the Suspense TV show on dvd.  BJ's had them for sale about 5 years ago when they still sold a lot of DVD's.

Listen to the Suspense theme and then watch the Jimmy Stewart nightmare sequence in Vertigo.  I'm pretty sure it is the same music.  Of course, Bernard Herrmann was responsible for both.

If elected, Trump will, undoubtedly, be the dumbest President in the history of this country. The man knows a good bit about real estate. So what? He`s a buffoon. He has no plan for anything. When pressed on healthcare, he has no answer. Just that the government will pay for it. He knows absolutely nothing about foreign policy or how the military functions. He`s clueless on the US Constitution. He thinks he`s going to impose punitive tax rates on businesses that relocate overseas! He`s an idiot who can`t spell, for God`s sake. I`ve never seen anything like this in my life.

But it is going to be incredible when he is elected.  He will make America great again and you will be very happy.  Trust me.

Yeah, he's useless. Hillary has a more conservative voting record than McCain, yet we got stuck with him as a "conservative" presidential candidate because it was his turn. The Republican establishment must go.

I hated voting for him in 2008.  I complained and shook my head at the voting booth but I really disliked Obama so you do what you got to do.  I liked Romney a lot more than McCain but he was still an Establishment politician. They all have to go.  I'm sick and tired of them.

I agree, Trump and Sanders are the only ones opposing the imposition of the no-fly zone. Syria is not worth that risk, it's a desert. We shouldn't be supporting John McCain's rebel groups, which we still know very little about, instead we should be supporting Putin to put the Assad regime back in control of the country. It's the most stable, least deadly option. Supporting dictators sucks, but it's a better option than constant sectarian conflict.

John McCain sucks worse than Noory. As does his boyfriend, Lindsey Graham.
