I think it's supposed to be one of those extra-dimensional beings that travel through portals and can only be seen by night vision goggles. The apparently ripped a bunch of cables out of the ground that would've required super human strength and destroyed some camera equipment, and did a bunch of experiments on cattle. I think it took place on that alien ranch in Ohio, though I could have the location wrong and the episodes mixed up.

I know someone who has 4th generation nightvision goggles. I always wanted to borrow them to watch alien wars, Ed Grimsley style. Now I'll have to check for interdimensional beings, too.
