TTPB.. another Canadian comedy juggernaut up there with SCTV.  It won't be the same without Mr. Lahey.

Hoagy needs to forget doing live broadcasts. Record vlogs or podcasts and upload them to the website, and Youtube.  He can't afford a can of beans, let alone pay for broadcasting live shows that he can't even produce. LOL

Damn, fell asleep and missed the gong show LOL.

you all forget that Trump is just figurehead for the movement that is "Trump" .."MAGA"  ...and "silent majority says fuck the establishment and the progressive left."

Trump got elected because he was smart and recognized that the silent majority was pissed off, and were going to vote for whoever was going to listen to them and take action once elected.
That is why he will win in 2020 as well.  By that time, both the Dems and Republicans will be fumigated and cleansed if they aren't outright destroyed by then LOL.

You have a great point, but style and period appropriateness is also a factor in my decision making.  The performance desires are mitigated by a certain amount of personally driven nostalgia on my part.  It's infantile but there is a partial "look Dad, I got my dick on the Hi-Fi" lokiness to this. :)

The NS10s are period correct.  ...and your Dad would have said..."Don't ever rub your dick on these speakers."   ;D

JBL.. Cerwin Vega...  B&O.... Bose... Pioneer...Marantz... etc.   they all made good home stereo speakers for the era, but they still really didn't have great bass drivers yet. Those were found in the studios... and they all had Yamaha NS10 monitors.

If you are looking for speakers that will reproduce the recording faithfully, with a flat response, without adding any coloration from the speaker design, a good studio monitor like the Yamaha is golden.  I wish the audio/music gear from the 70s would have been better.. that music would have been even better at that time. Most of the time we heard that music playing through utterly garbage gear compared to today. LOL

you should get a pair of Yamaha NS10 monitors.   These would have been in every recording studio around at the time.
I have the modern version HS80M monitors.  Better sound than any home stereo speakers.

And if the bullet was shot at you and was still going at least 1100fps you would hear a sonic boom (or a crack) as the bullet passed. Unless it hit you. They say you don’t hear the one that hits you.

yes the round would still be supersonic at that range.

Once again, it is not that simple. That is the velocity at the point of impact. It is a calculus problem (vaguely remembering sonething about dy/dt)

So if you took the initial velocity, dividing by that would be the shortest time, dividing by the impact velocity would be the longest time, the real answer is somewhere in between.

This calculator can show you. Just select the round and range.

http://gundata.org/blog/post/308-ballistics-chart/

yes it will be a formula to do that more precise... but we don't need to get that precise.  We can come up with a number that is close enough for our purposes with rough math
#285
so at 600 yards you would hear the report of a gunshot approx. 3 - 4 seconds after the shot was fired, and 2-3 seconds after impact.  Roughly, using quick rough calculations.

The math is not that simple for long range. The bullet is slowing down from the instant it leaves the barrel.

http://www.barnaul.co.nz/ballistic-charts-2/5-56-x-45-55gn

OK pick your distance on the chart...  take that distance and divide it by the velocity.

600 yards... that's 1227 fps at POI   so 1800 feet divided by 1227 fps  = 1.466     so if we take initial velocity at that distance it's    0.58    so it is between .58 seconds, and 1.4 seconds.

This student was 19.  That is underage for legal carry in Texas.  So he was breaking the law.  Why they didn't search him is complete incompetence.  Shit happens.

just another example of gun laws being useless.

There have been no reports I’ve heard of him practicing. I would think we’d know if he went to a range. There’s a lot of desert, but someone firing a bump stock would probably attract attention. A lack of practice could account for the low kill count - though distance could, too.

There has been mentioned he went out and practiced in the desert.

The FBI/CIA can't find it's ass with both hands. Look at Syria and Ukraine. LOL! Those agency's don't allow talent to on-board anymore. They want yes-men and controllability. Not talent.

well this operation was pretty sloppy, and those were rookie numbers, for the target rich environment, so to speak. LOL so that fits exactly with some alphabet agency dufuses.

Well, there are a ton of legacy rifles out there for one. The tooling is already there.

yeah, I suppose with all the .223 out there already.   LOL make em roll their own. Wouldn't be the first calibre to be retired to the reloaders.  If they are true precision guys  ;)  they are building their own loads anyways.

I don't think so. Just a nut-job and an entitled prick.

yes, a nutter is also an option.   I go with a lefty, anti gun nut job, if we are doing sub genre nutters.  ;D

and there is also the FBI/CIA/DeepState scenario that has to be looked at as well.

The high-end paper-puncher nerds still love the .223. It shoots a cunt-hair flatter and further but with less velocity because of the closer tolerance of the chamber.

I don't see the big enough demand by paper punchers to warrant a need for the manufacturers to make it though. That's a lot of tooling for small differences in manufacture, and results.  Just why eat all that extra cost?

This guy knew just enough to be dangerous. Plenty of guys know way more. He did a good job operationally speaking but a lot of people could have done it better.

I agree. Just perfect for a Patsy.

Wylde Chambers will accommodate both and most AR's are Wylde Chambered now days.

yes.. I don't know why they even still make .223 rem and chamber rifles for it... just do it all in 5.56  and eliminate the issue altogether.

1,000 rounds? That barrel would have been so red-hot you could see the bullets going down it, and it probably would have sized up before he got there.  A thousand rounds in 10 minutes? Fuck me! Must have been 7.62x91mm out of an MG-42! LOL! Fucking Omaha Beach! :)

I heard from some sources he fired 3000 rounds...  but I doubt that number
#296
.223 and 5.56 are pretty much identical round.  the only differences lie in the chamber of the rifle they are fired from.
a .223 chambered rifle should not use 5.56 ammo  ... whereas a 5.56 chambered rifle can use .223 ammo.

I would suspect that most of the kills came from the 7.62x51mm rounds. It's far better suited to the range he was shooting from and to chop through that glass.

I haven't seen any 7.62 casings laying on the floor in any photos yet though.  if he fired 1000rds of 7.62, there would be casings all over the floor.  actually there is less casing on the floor visible in photos than you would expect to see for how may rounds seem to have been fired.

 250 yrds ... that's 750 ft.. so 750 divided by 3200 =  0.234 seconds  ....for a 5.56 round to travel 250 yards.

5.56x45's effective kill range is 400 meters out of a 20 inch barrel. Heat, elevation and wind are a factor. The practical application of the round is 250 meters in the real world. It will kill at further distances but the rule of thumb for any experienced handler of the round is 250 meters and you try and keep it to 200 if the shot really means anything to you. At 200 meters or less the round is deadly as fuck!

yes.  and they are fast as well.  I have a 5.56 rifle.  a Swiss Arms Black Special (SIG PE90/ Sig 550 (semi only)  so quite familiar with what a 5.56 round will do for ballistics

.223/5.56 ammo has an initial velocity of approx. 3200 fps.   speed of sound is also a known.  1125.33 fps.   over 3 times the speed of sound.

if you have the sound of bullet impacts, and then the report.. you can easily calculate distance from where gun is fired.  It isn't rocket appliances.
