20130925 - Matthew Alper - God Part of the Brain

Spinner

Matthew seems to believe that genes control body and mind.

Wrong. Genes don't "control" anything. They're simply blueprints.

I'd say we do not have a God part of the brain. It would suggest that atheists do not have that part of the brain. That seems self-defeating to Alper's whole point because he's in effect telling us that he's mentally defective.

Good point, and one that Art basically just touched on thankfully. I love Art!

Quick Straw Poll - do coast gabbers believe in a god part of the brain? yay or nay

Yay. I have felt the allure of superstition and the paranormal, but resist it effectively with rational thought.

Maybe his became self aware and are staging some form of extreme microscopic revolution. I am imagining contaminated ectoplasmic ooze, lightning bolts and maybe cosmic radiation being the catalysts of this.

Dudes that drag on about god, or the lack thereof usually sound like dicks.

He's really beginning to piss me off with these "fancy words" remarks.

I swear, i hate this ass

How can you be in the height of prayer whilst in an MRI?

steelbot

Hrm....this guy's very confrontational....we'll get there, we'll get there....while I drag on my Air Time!

A lot has happened since Art last talked to Alper about this topic. Honestly i am not at all convinced that consciousness is localized in the physical brain. From all indications consciousness appears to be a non local phenomenon.

I'm praying that dude will shut up.

butterbat

Why would a "god part of the brain" necessarily preclude the existence of God?

Exactly. I'm by no means religious but why wouldn't god put a "god part of the brain" in the brain?

AshamanWolf

I'm beginning to feel like the people who have the ego-diminishing disease are actually having their ego sucked away vampirically by this guy.

Because he's starting from a spiritually flaccid point of view. He needs proof that he's normal. Much like seth shostack's ufo perspective.

Ego vampire! I love it! We need to tell Snoory about this. He'll talk for three days about it.

This is what I want to hear about.

What this guy says is so obvious to me. Hopefully Art isn't a jeebus nut.
