If it weren't for Vara - Heather would be bigger than the Beatles by now.
Vara/LNM was already imploding with no money, his constant $-begging, and then there was the extremely poor audio for HW's show. HW does legitimately have that "excuse card" to play for her believer fans of which I certainly never was such a HW fan. I never liked her hosting style enough or typical guest to want to be a paying subscriber, but IF she had a reliable co-host that showed-up for work when HW doesn't... THAT could be a game changer for HW to succeed.

Will HW become a co-host? I seriously doubt she will do that based on her personality and history.

I am tired of the UFO speculation BS.
So why are you in a paranormal radio forum?

I guess the CBS Radio Mystery Theater turned into C2C somewhere around 1980...And all these freaks got famous.  I guess I was one of those kids that was not allowed to listen to radio past their bedtime

Distinctly non-linear timeline given the insanely creative RMT was an hour's show. You might have missed a transition on late night radio that started with Sally Jesse, Bruce Williams, Jim Bohanan, et al.Generally what happened was corporate bought out local, inserted their own "talent" and presto!

That's my take. I'm not looking for "The Truth," just a good ghost story...

Then you really want to dive into the RMT archive:

The scripting and acting values were as god as any of the classic "old tyme" radio from the 30s and 40s. Sound effects - even better. No way you won't be entetained by these - timeless stuff. ;)

I had one when I first started driving but I lost interest in what other drivers had to say -- you'd rarely find a good conversation -- just a bunch of braggards bullshitting about how they're all millionaires.
Heh, how technology moves on - may I recommend:

I had an "improvised antennae"  and I could "intercept" some CB transmissions...I caught some of their "handles" it was really cool...and funny...until I discovered that some of the locals were also using a stationary CB unit (not sure what it was called)

...Jim Bohanan,
Jim Bohanan is a blustering no-talent hack who rode in on Larry King's coattails. You forgot that part.

100% true!

I left Larry out only because he was more a phenomenon of the mid to late 70s talk radio, then he went cable. But yes, Larry was for at least a decade the 'king" of overnight radio talk nationally. And Bohanan was his erstwhile fill-in, then successor. Good catch. :D

Personally I preferred:

This was the big fear for us kids...getting hit by a "quarry truck" - on Route 671 (1975-1982) Because of the hills and valleys, these trucks could not stop for ANY thing in their way!

They had short green cabs with the company emblem on the door..and 25' trailers...and they did not have "jake brakes"

They scare me and I'm in a big truck!

Heard just a smidge of LNM and Vara last night - he was actually asking listeners who produced their own music and had the copyright to allow him to use it for bumpers.

I think Qeef's royalties threats must have something to do with the LNM closure perhaps just as much as Dumbo's embezzling. :-\

Anything is possible but he's played original music before.

Dan Mumm produces his own records and I'd be checking in with him. Great bumper music!

Interesting - perhaps skirting some copyright issues?

No matter, by any naming - GREAT radio!

EG Marshall was one fo the most powerfully sinister voices ever to crackle of of the AM ether back in the day and his magic is no less in reruns.

Outstanding - some definite Yngvie Malmsteen (sp?) influences there!

I was in a restaurant several years back and I started talking to a Korean War Vet and he told me that one of the few pleasures they got while over there was to gather in the one tent that had a radio, and on Saturday nights listen to these old shows. That piqued my interest and I can't help but to think them, huddled in that tent, every time that I listen!

Metron2267

Those guys were some tough old birds. Conditions in the Korean winters were appalling. Pretty cool to know they had radio drama to occupy the mind and still the night...

Juan

I wonder what old shows they listened to. CBS Radio Mystery Theater started in 1974.

All the classics most likely - Fibber McGee and Molly, The Shadow, The Whistler, Amos & Andy, Jack Benny - there were dozens or more!

He mentioned a few but it was Inner Sanctum that caught my attention.

Inner Sanctum Mystery, also known as Inner Sanctum, a popular old-time radio program that aired from January 7, 1941, to October 5, 1952, was created by producer Himan Brown and was based on the imprint given to the mystery novels of Simon & Schuster. In all, 526 episodes were broadcast.

If you got XM in your rig Ch 148 "Radio Classics" is great (one channel away from the "Trucking" channel also.)  Theater of the mind, when radio was great.

Guess who's sticking his nose in Vara's biznizz again... :(

Metron2267

Dittos on "Inner Sanctum", esp. Himan Brown a huuuge talent:

Yep, Bart's the royalties cop until all the competition has been shaken down and shuttered. And the cat ladies titter on about their critters and praise Bart and...I'm sorry it's about as sickeningly sweet as:
