Yeah chat rooms are obsolete.
Its all facebook and twitter instead nowadays...

The chat room is located next to the 1-800 party line. Walk 50 feet down the hall, turn left and look for "nerds meet here" sign.

Well that just plain sucks. I dunno if your young or old but let me tell ya..back in the day, I ran an Art Bell chat room (One among many of course) . It was the best time I ever had. All of us going to ONE place to talk Art. Only then, Art was actually on the air at the time.
In my opinion,
"There is no substitute for a real time chat room."

Sure you can twit or post on facebook and "wait' for feedback. For me, I want a conversation between all those in the same chat room.

Its just better.

So Michael, hows about a chat room? Is it doable?

I hear ya. (BTW, I'm 36, and veer from immature to curmudgeonly usually within seconds). A chat room for Noory would be like viewing the comments section to a lynch mob, hence the lack of enthusiasm for one nowadays. In Art's day, it would have been certainly better than today.

Test,

there are two reasons there is no chat room.

1)  it is not able to be archived for viewing later.
2)  every message you post in a chat room is a message you aren't posting on the forum.

this request/suggestion has popped up a couple times over the years, but my instincts have always told me to reject it because it would cannibalize the forum if users began paying lots of attention to it.

^^ widsom .  i totally agree

There's an underground movement to revive chat room group dynamics via CB radios.  It's unknown at this time if they will capture the imagination and enthusiasm of former AOL member chatters who long to "LOL", "WTF?!" and "Congrats, on your brain tumor test comin' back neg, Cam!", "Yea, congrats, Cam!", and "Maybe next time, Cam..."

The archive problem MV points out has been circumvented by the allocation of court room reporters (also obsolete, but we still have them dutifully sitting there in the court room, typing away on a machine that looks like some kind of reject prop from Videodrome or Naked Lunch).

They are eager to earn extra cash for a new finger-box and will monitor various agreed upon CB channels.

((I don't know about you, but a jury of my g**damned peers is a jury that has access to HD video recordings of the trial in question instead of only the mere finger-hearsay of "Sonia" and her vintage stenograph.  Are they doing that yet? It's been a while since I've been through the system.))

Sound effects, a somewhat experimental and annoying tool in chat room navigation, has not been forgotten. A perpetual loop of the Allman Brothers' instrumental "Jessica" will be played in the background of the new CB Chat Rooms. Digital thunder will make an appearance.

And if that doesn't make you want to ventilate yourself with a Saturday Night Special, I just got word that Linda Moulton Howe is going to host her own "CBCR" and her very first fucking guest is George Noorishment.

Well dip me in custard and call me a dead dog's eye.

Breaker, breaker, any takers?

(next month, an essay on clever ways to save money when sending those pesky but necessary telegrams that can eat into your War Ration constrained household budget!)

Cam out.

woah, Camazotz came out of retirement to post.  Where you been buddy? Over.

Well, there is the chat room for the podcast.

I was glad to see chat rooms fade away as we moved into the 2000s.  I spent more than my time on EFNet IRC back in the day, and my god, what a staggering collection of assholes that place was.

As Bruce Dickinson might scream: "I was back in The Village."  I think I've finally made it out for good, but you know how those in control allow the illusion of escape to permeate the neurons before yanking you back in by the gills.  B.C.N.U.

of all the original "crew" who once called this place home, i think i've noticed your absence most of all.  i hope you'll be around more regularly.

And what a crew it was.

It's a very safe bet I will be checking in much more.

Soooooo, while I was out playing in bands and socialising in real time, you were developing your social skills in a chat room with people you didn't even like. That explains a lot.

More likely you hanging out backstage in "real time" like a groupie.

Seriously, dude, everyone knows if you had any kind of life you wouldn't be here trolling a bunch of strangers who don't accept you.

Hey Michael, can we ban this loser?

Really?  Only a year older than me?  From some of your posts I had figured that you might have around 10 years on me.  I had high hopes that within that decade I could practice so my cynical side would match yours.  Now it seems unlikely that I will be able to accelerate the plan and condense 10 years of learning and practice into only a year.

Oh well; I'm still on track for my ultimate goal of matching the cynicism of Mark Twain by the time I retire (if only I also had his wild hair to go with the personality...)

Not a bad decision.  I love when people fight, argue and bitch... so long as it is maintained in one thread and not drug across the entire board being spread like manure.

On the bright side, now I know what to do should I ever wish to be unceremoniously removed from CG.

thanks, brother.  and i'm glad to hear you're enjoying life.

i'm hoping for a girl.  nabila was sooooo cute when she was little, and with luck, a girl will look exactly as she did.  also, i've seen it helps to have a girl as the first child so she can help with the second child.

Mr Clemens lived to be 74(in a time where men died at about 63 on average) so his cynicism served him well.

Growing up where I did certainly gave me a jump on being a cynic. Trust no one, screw them before they screw you, if someone's being nice to you it's because they want something and you got nothing coming. If you're thinking that way by the time you're 7...it's quite the world outlook.
