I tried listening early this summer, the first time in years. It wasn't even 3 minutes and I was yelling at the radio because Snoory is such an idiot.

Even with nothing else on, now, it's unlistenable.  "Hmmm... mmmhmmm... oh boy..."  Riveting interview.

My favorite is (and I noticed that he'd try to work this in whenever even tangentially related to the topic) when he'd say, "I just believe in the abeeawtic theory of oil. I think this world has always produced oil and always will. Yeah. Uh huh." Since I never once heard him offer any facts, evidence or even supporting argument for this he may as well been saying, "I just believe in polka dotted flying unicorns. Yeah. Un huh." What an astonishingly dumb man for someone who achieved so much success in his field. It started making more sense when he dug into freshly microwaved pizza pockets without a thought and had to be taken to the hospital.

That reminds me, I need to e-mail [redacted] again to request Bill Walton as a guest. He's got a book coming out early next year about Walton's near-crippling back/spinal problems. Could be an interesting conversation between two bad back sufferers.

I would not blame Art one bit for ANY decision he may make to protect his family. 

Dogs could be a problem on the desert because of snakes and scorpions, I think.  It's not as though you could string motion detectors and cameras on trees in the surrounding areas or station a guy there somewhere with a gun an binoculars looking for the lurker. 

I don't know what Art's property looks like, but I'm imagining a guy quite a distance from the house this time, with night goggles, maybe, just shooting in the air. 

Art's cameras, even recording, probably cannot catch much that is a distance from the house in the dark.  The cretin probably knows there are motion detectors and he'd be caught if he crept up close to the house now. 

Art would probably be better off in the city.  There would be more people around to observe the creep, there would be a more experienced police force, and his abode would be easier to defend.

If we all lived closer we could form a brigade of sorts.

OK, here's what happened:

I missed the show, then woke up in the middle of the night and Art's message was the first thing on my Facebook feed.  I'm surprised, because he said he had a lot of security now.

Art, I don't know if you'll read this, but I live in an area where bullets fly.  One of the first things I did was install motion sensing flood lights.  Their power to make the "bad guys" go away cannot be understated.  And now they're made with LEDs, so it's not a big drain on power either.

I hope part of your security system was to also install video cameras.  Did you get video of the perp?  I know those things can work in the dark via infrared LEDs.

Some people have asked me about how to set up their video systems.  I always tell them that in an area of particular interest, you need at least TWO cameras covering the same area.  One should be wide-angle, to see everything that happens.  The other should be telephoto, aimed where the perp is likely to pass.  This one would get a good shot of their face.

In your case, it sounds like you needed motion sensing flood lights aimed out into the adjacent land.

The "firecracker" sound you heard is what it sounds like when bullets are whizzing past you when fired from far away.  From that sound, it may be difficult to determine the direction it came from, because the sound comes from the path of the bullet rather than the gun.  At least, that's my experience, unfortunately.

Art really has his priorities misplaced. I mean, why doesn't he have a friend, or hire a security guard, riding shotgun so he doesn't get held up right at showtime?  Either that, or Art is a total empath-void who doesn't give a shit about listeners across the world.  The latter is probably more true, inasmuch as he hasn't even posted a notice or reason by now.  What a jack-off!

Oh hell no, haha.  Just personal shots at long-time members of the forum, from what I saw.  I'm pretty new here, so not the best one to comment on the history, and the screen shots of the comments seemed vicious the night I saw them (I guess it'd happened a few times), but "worried"--haha, nope.  Looks like lots of anons and general abuse over there.

I'm not worried one whit that jerks come in here and post. Jerk postings and inter-member squabbles are a daily occurrence. That's the wages of frequently a loosely moderated forum and I wouldn't have it any other way. (We do have a way of self policing in here which seems to work just fine.)
