Hoagland (?) tweeted (and was seen by me today (Feb 1) at 9:55am Mountain Time):

TheOtherSideOfMid ‏@OtherSideOfMid  · 3 hours ago

TUE-SAT 12 - 2 a.m. (PST) LISTEN LIVE: https://www.talkstreamlive.com/program/richard_c_hoagland/ …
OR CALL... http://fb.me/5MZ3HFcyk

I've replied "is this *live* live or what? Guest(s)? Topics?" I copied stream url (found when clicking either link above) and stuck it in my stream list for my digital radio. I'll have to remember to check if he's trothing or not. He has not yet tweet after that, but maybe he'll remember to inform would-be listeners of what he plans to talk about. Maybe the weather. The mountains (I think he is or near Taos) have gotten up to 200% of normal snow, but it looks like we'll have another warm February. At least with all the well-watered vegetation, maybe bears won't bother him.
Thank you for the update DebbyS.  :)

( Okay, enough with my sig. I'm sure it's getting annoying by now. ;)     ;D  )

a friend just renovated an old river cabin for rental and needed to make it 'nice' to compete with the newer, larger built rentals but can withstand a lot of wear, water, etc. He put in this tile everywhere that looks like hardwood but was concrete or tile (right now I forget which.) I never have been a fan of polished concrete floors, though some tmes they can look nice. Upon close inspection, of course, you can tell but the look goes with the wood walls etc of the cabin but without the need to deal with as much wear and tear or cost of real wood (or worse laminate) with people coming and going, cowboy boots, wet from swimming, etc. Having to fix, sand down, restain or repoly, etc. Then saved some sg ft by getting rid of the fire-place, chimney, and hearth (it is Texas and not many want to rent a river place in winter away,) opened up the kitchen/breakfast nook to the living room, and it now "seems" a lot bigger than it is. But the floors, especially in photos, looked like wood. SOme ideas:

http://www.homedepot.com/b/Flooring-Tile-Ceramic-Tile/Wood-Grain/N-5yc1vZarszZ1z0wlem

One of my neighbors did a concrete treatment on the ground, slab floors. I like the idea because of the durability, and it looks cool. I know I've got a problem in one corner of the slab downstairs...it's been patched and leveled some time in the past but I don't know if it could be covered up/stained/whatever if I went with the concrete-treated floor. So it's going to have to be carpet, hardwood or tiles there. lol Right now it's carpeted.

But my project is upstairs for the bath. This is just for the small master bathroom upstairs for now. Some of the ceramic tiles that look like wood might be interesting. I plan on eventually doing hardwood floors upstairs someday and that might tie in nicely.

Thank you, sir! God bless Texas.  :)

LOL - yeah, I just saw the other thread.  :o    ;)   ;D

Albrecht had some really good posts here.
Another thing to keep in mind for the future about cement floors. If you apply a burnt polish, let's say on a garage floor, it looks great and cleans up easily, but any water or other liquid spilled on them or tracked in, will turn them as slick as ice.  :(

Yeah, "they," who advocate concrete floors claim that the slippage issue with concert floors is over-rated (to their point how many times have you slipped or skidded, especially in socks, on a real wood floor or laminate? And cleaning up things like spilled wine or coffee on tile, especially certain kinds or unsealed grout etc. But they sell coatings etc, especially for use in shops and garages to make it rough and tough to slip. Not sure how they really handle that in houses.

ps: I like your theory about RCH doing a disappearing act to "prep" for the incoming asteroid (and likely skip out on some bills or rents.) I wouldn't put it past him. Has he, at least, had the common-decency to alert current 19.5 subscribers? Even if on a FIFO system, the longer one has subscribed the early you get the alert? (Or maybe, even better, a LIFO method- since a person is REALLY loyal, and a real sucker, to subscribe to a program not even broadcasting!)

Good luck, it is always neat to check out the latest ideas and tech- though the tried and true is often the way to go also. I had an old landlord, decades ago, who swore by his old hardwood floor and would just polyurethane the shit outta of it between tenants. Boots wouldn't dent it, water or spilled beer wouldn't soak in, etc. Felt and looked more like a basketball court though.
ps: thanks for the message, coming from someone in Oklahoma, that is a bold statement!

Do you think RCH knows how to pop the stack ?   :o    ;D  ;D  ;D

I think the subscribers are still waiting on their special edition book, too.   :(

My guess would be:
cat /dev/null > Subscriber_List   ;)

Overwrite the contents of the subscriber list with the contents of /dev/null (nothing.)  In other words, delete all the data in the file.  ;)

Thank you for the link; that's a very cool page.   :)

I'm much more familiar with the novel than the film and I wasn't aware that they "dumbed down" the DS Gun so much for the film. Of course, they were limited by the special effects of the time, so I shouldn't have found it all that surprising.

Did the recharge time mentioned here:

QuoteThe range of the Sandman Gun is approximately 360 feet, and has an average recharge time of three hours.

...serve as a plot mechanism in the film?

I see Hoagland is at the con-game again. "Listen Live!" says his Facebookery. That's "live" as in "old shows recycled."

Dear me, such dishonesty. I'm blocked from commenting but don't let me stop you... PLEASE don't let me stop you... from adding something appropriate like BULLSHIT.

Concrete floors...ugh...who was the nutjob that decided to make these fashionable in stores along with puke colored paint and lowercase serf signage and bad lighting - meaning poorly lit or lots of glare - take a pick?  Why don't they advertise "regular retail prices in a drab barn store environment" (notice the lowercase, e.e. cummings) and "now with less checkout lanes so you'll need to use a self checkout after 9pm?" Anyhow, these concrete floors make my back hurt more and its not just psychological.  Add to this the wall to wall packing of the same melted plastic looking foreign crap from store to store all across the nation and beyond - all  overpackaged in more plastic and I wonder why I go to the store at all anymore.  I  buy most everything but food, toilet paper and batteries  online or out of thrift stores.

Yeah, and while I am on this rant I'd like to point out whoever first said ALL CAPS IS SHOUTING has obviously never seen a flipping teletype. You know, like they used on the Space Shuttle back when our space program was relatively robust.

And while we all know that Hoagie had untested theorems and questionable guests, we knew he was cool.  If I met someone walking down the street today with a Thinkpad and an Accutron that could name without Googling when Viking landed on Mars or name every Moon walker, I would think "there goes my kinda people." So...I have been contributing to his slush fund. Still better than wasting that money on an inane programming filled movie or a Stepped on Burger, another goofball fad that gives you less and tells you that you like it.... no, I like my burgers thick, piled high, and rare - with bacon, you whiny bloated bureaucratic pasty-faced corporate shill that mumbles "we must serve them medium well"....they tell me this and I walk never to return to your overpriced strip mall establishment that sends me a bunch of clay-coated junk in the mail that I don't even look at each month.....

I like that the mailboxes in my neighborhood have a rubbish barrel next to them....every couple of weeks I go to the mail box with a rubber band and take out and armful of paper and grab out whats real  and band it up. That ends up about 10 % by volume of what was in the box. If I can tell its advertising, I don't even open it.  I would use the coupon books maybe if I liked the store, but 99% chance the only time I will end up in many of these establishments is by accident if I need to pee while out on a drive.

Hoagie was smart. He wasn't a technophobe, nor could I picture him out with a smart-phone. I'll bet when he goes someplace he draws just a quick paper map...I still do this, often on the back of an envelope from the real mail described earlier. Recycling, you know.  Bring back the paper hand drawn map - give the mind a spatial challenge or two each month.

Preach it girl.

Thanks Ciardelo :) I can count on my fingers the best things culturally and technologically about the last 25 years on my fingers. Let's see...USB, higher megapixel cameras, oh - composite tooth colored resins for dental fillings, maybe Lasik surgery. That was really neat that in a few hours they were able to fix all the chips, stains and demineralized spots on my teeth and give me a smile like on the magazines I don't read.

I don't want to be a complete downer. I also like that they are bringing back tube amps to some music and that vinyl has had a cult rebirth. Still some fingers left....feel free to add a few of your own.

Oh OK, last 25 years? Imma go with heated car seats in the wintertime, clumping cat litter (with odor control) and um...let's see...oh I think ramen noodles are pretty nifty food technology.

All improvements, I agree.  My Dad's 84 Vette had the heated car seats. The improved cat litter is early 90s tech...the Ramen (good stuff) we know is late 70s...PDF documents are an improvement, although they never got to the paperless office they promised. Actually there seems to be more paper than ever.  One place I was at circa 2007 was still paper printing micromamagement on paper by the ream. Its as if because documents were so easily editable, any fool with a keyboard could readily turn a simple list of instructions into a book of complex faux-legalese nonsense and crappy clip art with titles in Comic Sans.

I thought I might have been playing a little loose with the dates...you know who else used a shit ton of paper? Government and healthcare providers. Even though my chart is electronic they still have me fill out three pieces of paper with the SAME QUESTIONS every time I go to the doctor.  >:( And government wasting paper? pfffft don't get me started.

Those doctor forms are like a useless survey, they never seem to arrive at any patterns and develop a series of tests to formulate a diagnosis from that. I wonder sometimes if they simply allow people to vent every odd allergy, symptom and ailment they've had from birth and feel better, lol.  Catharsis. When have we heard a doctor simply ask without middlemen or paperwork "What brings you in today?"

There are all kinds of industries plagued by the lack of straight forward simplicity.  The most inherently simple task has became in many cases a Federal project - speaking of the government.  The inefficiency is staggering as to appear insane when looked at in isolation. This translates to one thing for the end user or consumer - expense and the opportunity to gouge in the maze of accounting.  They might has well wrote the Uniform Standards of Inefficiency Manual. One minor incident with a misdemeanor or a sprained ankle can set off a barrage of people that need to take actions and shuffle paper at exponential expense.

If he really is this what is his goal? Did he do a year and a half of shows to make a few hundred a month on top of Social Security for a few extra months?  While agree that he has peddled some things that are dubious and made mistakes this seems like a lot more messing around than its worth. Even some of expats points are valid - but I am surprised that anyone would go to such an extent to prove him false.  A mission. Is there anyone that would take this much time and effort if there wasn't some truth and "blood in the water" to draw the sharks? Brandenburg's presence on the show seems to be pivotal in that - as this is where someone cashed their chips in to take him off the air. I see it and I know it.

Further lets bring up another show that nobody mentions disappearing. Future Theater. Bruce Maccabee (one of the more respected UFOlogists) gets a show with Bill and Nancy - then poof.  Cherries Bowl. Life Still. At about the same time.

Think through the haze here. There really is more going on.

Only the right kind of disinformationalists perhaps are getting to tow the line. Thats not an insult - we all pass on disinfo all the time without realizing it in the name of free questioning.
