Falkie, no one wants you to get hurt.

Can we have a show of hands of all those who don't want Falkie to get hurt?

No, I thought not, it's just you.

Kindly keep these opinions to yourself and concentrate on looking pretty. Or as close as you can get without shaving your back.

We all know you're a dude anyway.

I've said it before, you are ART FUCKING BELL, and nobody else is.

Arthur F Bell III, we speak your name!

It must be handy having a forum dedicated to you like this where people can remind who you are. Just in case he woke up one morning thinking he was Henry Kissinger, or Miley Cyrus.

In Noory's basement? Falkie, you should make sure this new TV show isn't low rent. You don't want to associate your brand with something like that. Noory's Beeyon Bleef leaves a lot to be desired. Tell Noory that you refuse to work with cardboard furniture. It brings down the tone of the show.

Senda Productions are world famous for their high production values and the literary qualities of their scripts. Those fucks who criticise the great man for half-assing it and saying whatever dopey shit enters his fat head are just the kind of morons that hold this great nation of yours back. I think he could teach classes in the use of irony. Even the actress playing that heffalump who is mooching off him looks like Claudia Schiffer when she has taken off the latex fat suit.

Go back to your rat lunches and stop hating. Bastards!

Interestingly enough, looks like Art pulled that from the Facebook page.........possible a reconciliation has occurred????

No, but Art saw that he had gone too far with that bit and changed his mind. At least, I think that's what he said, but you'd have to go back on the Art thread few pages to read what he said in detail.

I think this post belongs on the Falkie thread where Syphilis is being discussed.

When I was a kid we used to have a friend of the family called Phyllis, who was known affectionately as 'Syphilis', because she had been around the family for ages and was almost impossible to get rid of.

Oh, and if I have it, IB, then chances are so do you, so don't get cocky!  :-*

I'm afraid that I don't understand - if better organization does not end up saving Art time and or money I can't see why he should do it.

Tech people never agree on anything. They always think they can do it far better than the other guy. I don't have a clue about any of it, but at least the MITD website is fairly simple and doesn't waste your time with a lot of stuff that is just porn for the developer to play around with. It's a point of contact for the show, and as long as it does the job in that respect I think all the rest is just so much tinsel. You could go crazy with a whole lot of stuff, I suppose, but that would take a lot of money and probably wouldn't yield any extra net benefit. The website is pretty austere, as it stands, but I far prefer that to some of the garbage that slows up your computer. That bloody GIS website always drove me mad with that annoying jingle you got every time you clicked on a new page.

Oh, and if anyone doesn't use Ghostery to stop all of the crap that loads up when you go to a website, I recommend it. It is amazing all the widgets and crap that is hidden away on even the simplest sites.

The closings of mental health facilities over the past 40+ years in the US is a complicated and variegated issue.

Thanks for that, it was very interesting reading.

I don't think anyone wants to go back to the time where mental homes were a dustbin for people to put those whom society didn't want to cope with or even recognise, even if we could afford it. But there are obviously those who are likely to present a danger to themselves and others, and there is no real system in place to deal with that, it seems. I am sure paperwork is a big issue, and the whole thing  disappears beneath a mountain of red tape, instead of actually addressing a problem. I don't know if these shooters, for example, generally present symptoms that could be treated, or if they are just angry people who it is easy to regard as outwardly normal. This isn't an area I have any knowledge about.

But CitC here was a disaster and became a byword for the inadequate provision of mental care. It was all about making money by selling off land, and saving money on buildings that housed vulnerable people. I don't know if there is any codified way of assessing those who it is actually necessary to keep secure, or it is all a judgement call for the mental health professional concerned? I am sure it can't be too rigid anyway, but it seems like whatever they have in place needs an overhaul, and very quickly.

Partisan politics takes over and blinds us from accepting reality.  I thought liberals were not supposed to be fearful of breaking new ground, of being creative.  It's a sad world when we are so deeply entrenched.

"Scratch a liberal, find a Fascist" is perfectly true in lots of ways. That's why right-wing types can be more fun to be around because they aren't so burdened by ideology, even if their views are wrong and disgraceful. The worst sort of liberal wants everyone to be exactly like them and is totally humourless about any departure from their orthodoxy. It is weird that liberalism, in the economic sense, was all about laissez-faire, but now it is all about rigid codes of behaviour that people are loath to question. And I am much more on that side than the other, but it still irks me no end.

Is that entirely a bad thing? Really?

That was really just a shameless attempt to score top right notoriety, although all my previous sorties have been ignored by MV so far. It's not just the fame, I also want the perks; particularly the key to the BellGab executive washroom, because frankly I am starting to tire of the ignorant herd in the other one. Especially Paladin. I keep running out of matches; every time I see that bastard sashay into a stall with the NY Post it's like Fallujah all over again.

You also get a free doughnut in the BG commissary. Although it's best not to enquire how they made the holes in said doughnuts. Or the creamy centres in the others. As for the chocolate frosting...

It takes sophistication to appreciate a man who's led a traumatic life and has obvious challenges be brutalized on the internet for pennies?  ::)

It take a certain sophistication to realise that he loves the attention that he is getting and that the animus directed against him is not really personal. Otherwise, why else would he do it? Nobody is forcing him to come on there. If you notice, when the thread gets a bit slow he will pop on and stir it up a bit. He is not the smartest guy in the world but he has a certain cunning, and the thread gives him an outlet he wouldn't have any other way. That's why the sanctimonious stuff about the thread is out of place. It is really pretty harmless compared to the sort of stuff that is purveyed on other threads and is considered more serious. Consider the Falkie thread BG's own Wack Pack and you are getting somewhere close.

We are often not given enough information on these shooters.  How can parents rear such a child, the kid go through the educational system, have friends, and NO ONE find his behavior frightening until he decides to off a bunch of strangers in public?

It may be different there, but in the UK we have sub judice laws which inhibit the press from giving more than the barest details until the case has gone to trial. This can be several years later, by which time most people have forgotten all about it, but it often turns out to have many more elements than were reported at the time.

I'm not sure why Bernie's comments are considered controversial.  People have many fantasies that they really would not wish to act out.  We've evolved from more primitive animals and still carry their emotions.

Speak for yourself!  ;)

That's just the election smear machine getting into gear. Anyone remotely on the left who says something that isn't totally mainstream and bland gets pilloried for it. People are frightened of ideas in general, and anyone who says anything that might require a little thought and discussion finds themselves ostracised. It used to annoy me, but these days it is just amusing to see the same things go on year after year. You can't have a grown-up discussion about drugs without people trying to shut you down for saying anything at all.

I haven't read some of the predictable reactions, but it sounds the sort of thing that those cloth-headed eunuchs from Mother Jones and elsewhere just live for. Every time I look at the Media Matters website my balls shrivel up. I have never encountered such a bunch of clueless ninnies dithering on about absolutely nothing, just so they can tell themselves how impeccably liberal they are. Sanders doesn't have to defend it as 'satire' either. If he had any guts he'd tell these idiots to pound sand because it is true for some women, and it is no big deal. But there are so many no-go areas in public debate that it just resolves into throwing out a bunch of cliches that won't offend anybody. Bloody hopeless!

On John Oliver last night John blamed Pres. Kennedy for closing down the mental institutions but not funding the clinics that were to replace them.  Art says it was Reagan.  In New York City, it was Ed Koch.

It was called "Care in the Community" here. Lots of people who really needed help were thrown into hostels with little help from anyone. It was simply a cost-cutting measure by the lovely Tories with no thought for the implications, and all they wanted was to flog off the land for as much as they could get. A care home near me was demolished and turned into a housing estate, and these poor bastards were left to wander around. It was not unusual to find them standing by the side of the road, bewildered, wanting to cross but not knowing what to do.  Not surprisingly, people who should have been kept away from the public started attacking people and the term "Care into Community" fell into disrepute, unsurprisingly.

Oh, what a wonderful world this would be if you had any power at all!

Fortunately, your autonomy is confined to fucking up your own life rather than infecting other people's. I'm pretty sure that a lot of the animus directed against Falkie comes from the fact he used to be a moderator (at least I think so) at another place and, of course, he is the sort of fatuous turd that goes hog wild whenever he gets the slightest chance to have any sort of influence over anything. I'm pretty sure that instead of 'Praise MV', Falkie's reign of terror would end up rather like Mussolini's, with SK taking the fall as well.

This truthfully makes the Falkie thread make sense when it was just bizarre toxic place with no rhyme or reason before.

The Falkie thread is one of the most consistently entertaining things on the internet. People like to see it as a bunch of weirdos sharing their odd obsession about a retarded elderly man. That is quite true, but it can also often flare into life and change direction unexpectedly, and you get some of the funniest shit you will read anywhere. Falkie's total lack of self-knowledge, his inability to NOT (that's a joke that only Falkie insiders will get) tell everyone the most intimate and mundane details of his sordid life, are just the fertiliser for people to change it into comedy gold. It may sound odd, but you do need some sophistication to read the Falkie thread, and a lot of people don't get the joke and see it as simply depressing. If you see it as an opportunity to riff on his lunatic digressions and forget that he has any feelings at all (because he loves the attention, and anything you say to him will be lapped up like a large jar of Hellmann's) then you start to get the speed of it. Quite honestly, I see it as a sort of ongoing Absurdist art project, and the more contributors the better.

I probably farted in my sleep a few times during the game so that may have helped.

No, to be honest I had no idea either. It hasn't really caught my attention or interest. I don't think we were ever likely to win in the first place. As long as we have the Ashes I don't really care about anything else, including asteroids.
